Huntington announces affordable housing programs

Full story: Newsday

Standing in a vacant lot that is destined to be home to 14 housing units, each containing an accessory apartment, Huntington Town Supervisor Frank Petrone announced Tuesday a plan to use about $1.5 million to help low- and moderate-income people find, and keep, housing in the town.

And how will this revitalize the sh#$%hole known as Huntington Station? What decent law-abiding person in their right mind would purchase a house there?

this is good...the key is that the program will help people find and keep housing in the town, bring some illegal apartments up to code, and get rid of a few absentee landlords...when housing becomes more stable, communities follow suit...it is a fact that areas with long term, established residents have lower crime rates and a greater sense of community than areas with higher levels of transiency...therefore, making housing affordable and legal is a step in the right direction...

A poor one, dear.

I am in that category, and its a real downer to be lumped with people who take drugs, etc. I haven't figured out an escape route yet. I live a clean, wholesome life, and I happen to be poor.

My only crime is being a poor white person. I am treated like a criminal for being poor. I am humiliated constantly, like being asked yearly if I've been arrested. Ouch.

Believe me, I've tried very hard to get ahead, but haven't been able to yet somehow.

If the politicians really wanted to revitalize the place, they would get rid of the illegal invaders. What they really want to do is to provide the illegals with new housing on the working white man's dime. This way, the businessmen who employ them can continue to keep those political contributions flowing. The government, at all levels, no longer represents white Americans. Our forefathers knew what to do. Do you?

1st the town is Huntington is corrupt and all democrats. It should be more than one party.
2nd the town dont give a crap about the station. When do they plan on using the money that we pay which is very high for the actual town and making it nicer. Instead its going in thier pockets. Park Avenue between pulaski road and the area near the police station was repaved last year and the road was not in bad shape at all but pulaski road from oakwood road until burger haven area is the worst. Where are their priorities?

All these comments are all right except for Daves.
It's all about the politication and how much more money they can get at our expence(tax payers). I live in Huntington Station and for years & years they claim they are going to revitalize Huntington Station I'm 51 now What happen!!!!! The politicians made it a dumping ground for illegal imigrants. Living off of us Decent working middle class resident. There has been more crime and gang violence Then all my 51 yrs in Huntington sta. Patrone and Conti made Huntington sta worse then what it was. There the ones that need to get out of office. They are an embarassment and a shame to our community. They are the politicans we don't need!!! I guess seeing is beliving, but i must be blind. Huntington station is a dumping ground for all illegal's

Huntington has tried this before, and the people who purchase these homes always regret doing so. They don't tell you "your neighbors will be crack dealers" when you sign on the bottom line.

Their decision to pave that section of the road was that the residents "drive" there. The "residents" near the other section of Pulaski all ride bicycles to and from the bodegas and laundramats.

So it's humiliating to be asked if you have been arrested when doing your yearly interview for receiving taxpayer funds? Too bad. They probably did a background check prior to your interview and have that info already but are looking to see is you are honest. I'm sure this is a standard question for all of societies dependents. That ouch you feel at the question is temporary, ours is forever.

Believe it or not there are owner occupied homes on West Pulaski Road with people who work hard and have actual cars that drive on that road. Did I mention pay the ridiculous taxes to the town? That is really a dumb judgment. People who live and whom don't live there can get a popped tire from all the wholes that get horribly patched by the town which come back the next rain fall. So you would rather not pave it but have local residents and all the other people who use it to damage thier cars and suspension?

Another thing back to the Politicians. Pius = SLUMLORD who pays the Town. Talk about Fing up the area with disgusting houses not up to code and drugs and crack houses. As long as he gets a check in the mail a month he doesnt care if the area depletes. Does the town crack down on him?? No, because they dont mess with one of their under the table donators.

Did I say that? Do you think I am the one making those decisions? I am not, I was just stating their reasoning. Look at where I live....you don't think I've driven that stretch of road? That's how I know about all the people on bicycles.

And if you think YOUR taxes are high, would you like to trade?

You do have a point with the taxes. I really wonder how they calculate the taxes. And why are they such a pain in the aZZ with anything done to the house. Taxes go up for dumb things.

In NY the taxes are based on the value of the house, so every time you change something to increase the value (dormer, permanent shed, built in pool, etc) the value goes up, as does the taxes.

In Florida, I believe they base the tax on the most recent SALE price of the house, so no matter what you do to it, you won't pay more. Like everywhere else, the prices of houses are going down in FLA, and so is their tax revenue.

In other word, Petrone figured out a way to import more low lifes from places outside of Huntington (mainly Latin America it seems) and line his pockets while protecting his ever so slowly decaying "Village" ....

PS- sad days are upon us when you can buy crack on the waterfront...(West Neck Road)

Whenever they say affordable housing, it means the white working man pays the tab for lowlife scum. Politicians should be hung out to dry on whatever is handy, oak limbs, lampposts, etc.
