What they didn't tell you is that the only custody defendants that were transported were for their arraignments.
Any person that was picked up by a bench warrant was not transported.
I just hope that if a person that was arrested, and was the wrong person arrested on that warrant, that they were not over detained.
If so, I sure hope they sue the heck out of the County and the State for wrongful detention.
This day was not declared an emergency closure by legislature.
By furloughing only the court staff is not going to save the budget.
Sheriff's, Public Defenders, Alternate Public Defenders, District Attorney's and City Attorneys and their staff were not furloughed. They reported to work and claimed their salaries. Also some Judges did not furlough voluntarily as strongly suggested, as they are protected by legislation and do not have to furlough their salary. They were "in chambers" doing important work. Hmmm yep.. I bet without their staff or public to assist.
Am I grateful I have a job, YES! Please don't misunderstand this comment.
I just don't see how by taking my one day of salary is going to solve the problems for the State of California to balance the budget.
I work hard and always have and will continue to do so, to serve the public.
The public should not have to suffer and expect full service from the Court.
