46th race hopefuls split over oil drilling

A visit to the beach provides dazzling vistas of the Pacific - views that sometimes are interrupted by oil-drilling platforms, but with high fuel prices, there's talk on the national level about more offshore ...

Congressman Rohrbacher is right. Firstly, drilling on the Outer Continental Shelf, where the oil is, is not visible from the beach. Secondly, with modern technology, spills and accidents are virutally non existant. For example, even with Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf, there were no spills.

Perhaps most importantly, considering that offshore drilling has not been permitted for over 30 years, since nuclear power plants have not been built for over 30 years, since no new oil refineries have been built for over 30 years, we are in a serious energy squeeze due to the increased demand over that time frame. The simple fact is that we must do everything, not just some things, in order to get ourselves supplied with the energy we need, and without relying on enemies as a resource. The United States has sufficient resources on it's own. Lets start using them. All of them.

At the moment, it feels as though we are back in the Carter administration with extreme gas prices, unable to drive our cars, unable to use home appliances or A/C due to power shortages, and with restrictions on water usage due to drought and misguided court decisions and legislation which put the needs of some fish ahead of the needs of millions of human beings. As with the Carter years, we are doing this to ourselves, and there is no need for it.

Doesn't Debbie Cook own millions of shares in Big Oil Stocks? I guess she can't support drilling as it would drive the value of her oil portfolio down.

I can not believe that Dana Rohrabacher would want to destroy our #1 industry which is tourism for a scheme that will not deliver one drop of oil for decades! The time is now to move toward the future of sensible energy solutions supported by Debbie Cook.
We need to close the "ENRON Loophole" created by Phil Gramm which would negate up to 60% of the recent increase in oil prices that are directly attributable due to unregulated speculation. We need stronger conservation and renewable energy incentives and much greater use of LNG for vehicles which is abundant and has a lot lower carbon foot print.
As usual Dana Rohrabacher is looking backward and not forward for solutions to modern problems. As even the ultra-conservative T Boone Pickens realises we can not drill our way out of this situation.
Please everyone, independents republicans and democrats, support Debbie Cook for our children's safety and the best interest of our local economy and our communities' future.
