Fire consumes Falvey's Restaurant

By Billie Dunn EAST WINDHAM — A local landmark went up in smoke Monday. Flames shot through the roof of Falvey’s On The Mountain in east Windham just past noon. There is no official word on what started the blaze, but Chief Danny Byrne of the East Durham Volunteer Fire Department said that it probably began in the restaurant’s kitchen. Barry Falvey, the restaurant’s owner and operator, was at his residence across the street when he saw smoke coming from the roof of the building. He dialed 911 and, according to Byrne, the fire department responded within 10 minutes of the call. Oak Hill Durham and Cairo volunteer fire companies assisted East Durham in putting out the blaze, which, according to First Assistant Joe VanHolsteyn of the East Durham Volunteer Fire Department, was contained within two hours. “We had a great response,” said Byrne. “With the help of the two mutual aid companies we probably had about 40 guys on hand.” Falvey said the fire was primarily in the restaurant’s attic, and expressed concern about possible water damage throughout the building. He purchased the restaurant less than a decade ago and had completely renovated it. Before that the building was vacant, he explained. Falvey said he is expecting his insurance company to assess the damage today, and that he will determine how to proceed afterward. The restaurant was empty at the time of the fire but was scheduled to open for dinner at 4 p.m.

bc it wasnt east windham it was durham..thats why cario fd was called..n cario was closer to the fire then windham..this was a sad fire anyway but now were open on the mountin in windham come have dinner..we would love u have u here

Hey let's get the story straight. It was not Cairo FD that responded it was East Durham FD that responded. It's amazing how the so called owner abandoned his old place after it burned and right away opened a new Falveys Restaurant in Windham. Which by the way, only lasted 3 months. That was no surprise being that he did not actually own the original Falveys. His Wife owned it with her parents. He was just the idiot who always screwed everything up in there. If it was not for his In-Laws and EX_WIFE that place would have been closed a long time ago. He just liked to take the credit. He was doomed for failure at the new place and those close to him new it. That's what happens when you don't know how to run a restaurant and try to take the credit. Aside from all that That so called owner is the biggest con artist and drunk there is. Trust me I know. One of my close associates opened the new Falveys for him and the idiot not only did not put a penny into it, he ran it to the ground....Gee where is he know.. Oh I know Bar tending at a dump in East Durham Called Furlongs..Lets get the story straight once and for all

You hit the nail on the head with that comment. Everything you said about him is true and we all believed his lies for so long. He had it all and he ended up losing everything...even his family. We were all fooled by his facade but now at least people are slowly learning the truth about who the real Barry Falvey is!! Touche!

Hey I heard about all that. Word in town is that Barry Falvey is a deadbeat. Not only is he homeless he does not even pay his ex wife child support for his 2 beautiful daughters. How sad it truly is that he had so many people fooled. Hell I even went to a fund raiser for him at Furlongs and donated my hard earned money. Then I found out he did not give shit to his kids or the true owners of Falveys. he made it look like the fund raiser was for Falveys. I truly felt used. Its sad that some people still go out of their way for that LOSER.. Maybe if he stays off the bottle and gets a real job he may be able to support his kids and get an apartment...
