A cross over looking I-10 and Kerrville should be seen as giving hope to people that can see it. I am very proud of people that will stand up for what they beleive. It seems too many people worry about what people will think of them and what it might do to there social standing to do what they know is right.

The Cross might be your belief but not other peoples.

To make it fair to everyone they should also put a star of David, a crescent moon, and a pentagram!!! When i see the cross it doesn't give me hope, it warns me of the condescending and Hippocratic people awaiting you!!!!

Right on Rasco!

Because the religious citizens of kerrville feel all warm and fuzzy upon sight of the crucifix, does that justify ignoring all other viewpoints? What about the feelings of those who see the statue as a gross misrepresentation of what their community stands for?

How about something tasteful like "Welcome to Kerrville"? Why is there a need to push religious iconography & message (even if you do see this as fufilling your religious obligation to "testify")into the PUBLIC domain?

Our community needs to be reminded of what Jesus did for us. If someone doesn't believe in it, why do they let it bother them? If they want to erect something at their own expense, they should do it. I don't understand all the controversy. I pray that God will open the eyes of the unbelievers and let them see the miracles that prove that God is real and He really does tell people to do something. If you are of a different faith and want to do something different, do it.

it can be privately funded but it would be in a place where visitors to kerrville would see it and assume that it represents everyone here.

Bonnie, in response to your post:“If someone doesn't believe in it, why do they let it bother them?“

Your words imply that we choose to let this bother us; I don’t know whether to take this as thoughtlessness or ignorance. I’ll explain - Unlike the personal beliefs held by other members of the community, this gaudy display of Christianity will not respectfully be kept private. The 77- foot tall advertisement that is to be put on display, an unavoidable eyesore, is the primary source of “bother”.

This is not a matter of belonging to a different faith, or of “wanting to do something different”. I am sure members of the community are well aware of their inherent freedom to do so; there has been no mention of such nonsense, so I don’t understand why you even mentioned this.

It is a simple matter of pushing private beliefs into the public lives of others - against their will. If you have any grasp on reality, there is no way to legitimately argue that such actions do not impinge on others freedom from religion.

This is a marvellous day for having a discreet word in someone's ear. You'll be able to choose your words carefully, making you very tactful and considerate, and as a result you will have a helpful conversation.
