To the few people on here who are actually trying to justify these murders, you are an aboslute pathetic disgrace! I was bullied at times growing up, like MANY OTHERS I am sure, but I didn't go murder someone's entire family. To say that they "had it coming" shows not only your utter stupidity, but it exposes you as the complete cowards that you are! An entire family of INNOCENT people died, and you hide behind a keyboard and make comments that you would never have the guts to make to somebody's face. Grow the heck up! To the family and friends of the victims, my sincere condolences, and I hope that you find peace from all of the pain that this has caused.

I was 6 or 7 when this happened. Lived 2 doors down on Dara Faith Drive. Dont rember it as I was to young. The house sat for years and I can rember placing bets as a kid as to who could walk thru the entire house. Always had a very creepy feel going in. Growing up there the neighborhood never talked about it. I guess a family moved into the house in the late 80's.

Can anyone tell me about the murder of a maple point student in 1978. my mother remembers it but not the victims name. She does remember Robert Buli, who killed the young girl.

The Abt murders took place on March 12th, 1976 I lived in Trevose across the railroad tracks. I rode the school bus with some of the Abt kids so I remember them well always smiling. That tragic day it was a snow day so there was no school as the news broke on the radio of the murders. Though I wasn't close to the Abt family just knowing we would never see their smiling faces again is such a loss. I remember the happy go lucky kids to be gunned down by the coward across the street is senseless. I remember George the weirdo the loner who everyone stayed away from I guess there was a reason. I think Michael was stranded at the train station so he was calling on the phone constantly so that scared away George from waiting to finish off the entire Abt family. I think five members of the Abt family plus a friend were killed. George even killed the family dog I think it was a St. Bernard too bad the dog didn't attack him instead. This mass murder is a textbook case for death penalty just to know the killer lives in jail for the rest of his life not to put to death is hard. I moved to Florida the very next year in 1977 though I never forgot the Abt family who died in 1976 which should have been a great celebration for the 1776 in Philly except it wasn't because of this tragedy. I moved to Hawaii in 2010 to find peace and happiness. May the remaining members including Michael Abt's son find peace and remember your dad lives in you, the Lion King.

Even all of these years later the mass murder of the Abt family feels surreal. RIP ms kailua kona

Bullying has consequences. When adults don't deal with it there are results. That's what happened. It doesn't justify killing, but it is a result. To say, it's okay or that you were bullied and didn't kill someone just shows that you weren't pushed to the edge. Your an ignorant person because you don't look at the big picture. There are teens who kill themselves because of bullying and there are those who take it out on the perpetrators.

Across the country school bullying is gaining more attention even by the President who has addressed this epidemic through a White House Conference on Bullying.
-
Every year teens take there own lives out of shame or embarassment of bullying. Others suffer emotional damage and never reach their full potential.
-
"On October 17th, 2009, 17-year-old Tyler Long had had enough. After years of alleged bullying at the hands of classmates in his Murray County, Ga., school system, Tyler had gone from a fun-loving child to what his parents say was just a shell of the boy they once knew. "
-
When adults, teachers, and others allow this to permeate our society the results are evident in what we see as a "breaking point." Bullying is in itself and attempt to see someone "breakdown." Most bullys admit they do it for their own perverse enjoyment at torturing and tormenting someone who cannot fight back. When that breaking point is reached, because of failure to address the problem in a more constructive way, there can be irreversible damage. The bullying can be so intense that only those involved know exactly how far it had gone. The victim feels it many times worse than what a casual observer might think. There is even a continual fear created by repetition of the abuse against an INNOCENT person.
-
Most folks who grew up in the 70s never considered bullying to be anything more than "rights of passage." Unfortunately, that is a very stubborn and ignorant view of a much larger problem that has more to do with the mental health of the bully than the victim.
-
Usually bullys come from households, often blue collar, where it is an acceptable behaviour to try to intimdate someoene who cannot defend themselves.
-
Yes, we should all get right in the face of the bullies and call them what they are.

Tell your friend to go to newspaperARCHIVE.com for the answers to her questions. It is in the Doylestown Intelligencer November 1978. It will cost her some money but it will be worth it for her.

Did noone notice George Geschwendt mentioned on on episode of "Criminal Minds"? Episode titled "The Bitter Sweet Science" which aired Dec. 14, within 5 mins. of the show "In 1976 George Geschwendt killed 6 people, cleaned up the crime scene and covered up the victims faces."

My brother worked for a time at the Doylestown prison and actually had to sit in the cell with George, to guard him. It was for George's protection, since one of the Abt boys was in the prison also and would have had someone get to him if he weren't protected. My brother found George to be a quiet, intelligent person who just snapped after being picked on for years.

My old boyfriend lived a block away from the Abts and said his friend's sister was the newspaper delivery person then. She normally met Mr. Abt inside the house when she went to collect. That evening, he pulled up just as she got there, so he paid her in the driveway and she left. He went inside and was shot. George even shot the dog, I guess to keep things quiet. The victims were in the basement. The Abt boys were white trash pricks who brought this on their family.

Dear Mr. McGonigle:
I am a distant cousin of your family.(My grandfather was a brother of your great-grandmother. My father still stays in touch with a few of the Haney relatives.) I have been doing genealogical research on my family and I recently started to uncover more information about this tragic event. I sincerely wish the very best for you, your family, and especially your father and uncle. I hope they find the healing they need.

I am Michael Abts son. I wish you could all see how these murders affected my life and they happend 5 years before i was born.
I just found out my dad has colon / throat cancer and he wont be around much longer. He has had a long hard life, and will soon be with his family.
For those who say he deserved it, how can you justify killing innnocent people? really?
Him and my uncle cliff were bullies, got it. So every childish bully deserves to be Killed? is that what you are saying? George comitted a mass murder that effected so many peoples lives and hes not dead?
I am not saying by any means that my dad and uncle cliff were right in anything they did. Nor was it right that i had to grow up without a father, nor was it right that my mom had to struggle to raise 2 kids on her own. I spent my whole life madd at him for not being there for me, and i sit and try to put myself in his shoes and i dont think i could have lived my life after going through something like that, but i was still mad.
Last week we found out my dad has colon and throat cancer and probably wont be around much longer. Now the only person im mad at is myself for wasting so much time being mad at him instead of try to help him.
Weither you feel for him or not, no one deserves to have their loved ones taken from them. No matter how good or bad of a person they may be. Until you walk a day in someones shoes, you cant judge them.
this goes for everyone. In this situation, Mike, Cliff, George... non of us know what goes through their head that makes them tick.
Dont ever take anyone for granted.
