Should Profanity Be an Accepted Vernacular?

I was taught by very educated and moral teachers/professors that a person that resorted to foul language or profanity, lacked an extensive vocabulary to express themselves any other way, and I DO believe that is correct. I can remember a few short years ago, there was no profanity on TV and a little farther back, there were none in movies. Now, our airwaves and homes are permeated with foul, degenerated language that exposes are children to the fact, "it's okay to speak in the same way", after all, monkey see, monkey do. At the present time, one can curse God, but cannot say s--t or the N. word!
Why is it necessary to clutter up a sentence with such garbage or have we reached the plane of illiteracy that no other way can a point be hammered home? Free speech was never to clutter and slaughter our American vernacular with four lettered words. Is there not any other way to express one's feeling or emphasize without profanity?
And while we are speaking of God, why isn't the expression Allah damn, Buddha damn, Hindu damn or even Rotter Dam or Hoover Dam? Oh heaven forbid, there would such an uproar, it would shake the world if that happened, but yet, we can curse the God of our Nation without hesitation.

I think I would agree with you on all counts, however as long as I've been around, there has been profanity in movies, the telly is another thing. Only in the past few year has there been as much bad language been allowed and should be curbed. I agree with O'Reilly, it's getting way out of hand. Never had thought about using Rotter Dam or Allah damn though, I'll have to keep that in mind should I ever decide to decrease my vocabulary. I can only imagine if the Muslims heard Allah damn, we could get killed.

Hmmmm...think this will fly? I don't. Too many rap stars, East and West Coast potty mouths and that many,many more buy the tickets and products. When the "stars" get on tv and spout their garbage, it's an accepted things, but I agree. It's the lack of intelligent vocabulary that lets it fly. NO other words in which to express themselves.

It's a different WAY of expressing yourself. Though it may seem immoral to you, they are, after all, only words. To the people that say them, they don't really mean much. It's the people like you that put meaning to them and make them bad. If everyone expressed themselves similarly, that would make for an extremely boring life.
Likewise, if everyone used profanity then it would no longer be immoral.
You're overgeneralizing here. There are a lot of extremely intelligent people that swear AND there are people that swear without enough of a vocabulary to change it.

And about the God thing.... it's because most people don't care much for religion anymore. Those other religions weren't popular in the United States in order for those phrases to have evolved (assuming they evolved after America was created because I actually have no idea)

I believe that using profanity is absolutely okay. I mean, after all, they are just words. Simple, silly words. Profaniity is nothing more than wrds, and at this rate, with everyone using them constantly, soon, they will be nothing but regular words. I agree, yes, they are hurtful words, depending how you use them. However, now days, you hear girls call their friends "hoes" and "sluts", Every profanity word is very disrespectful, however they are just words. Everyone uses them, and now days they are used more and more. My opinion, people need to grow up and get over it. You're not going to stop every single person fom using profanity, so learn to deal with it.
