I'm writing a book about my father's life and military service, "The Ghost of the Golden Heart." He married my mother Minnie Lelia Rankin in 1948. Her family, the Sam and Beulah Rankin family, go way back in Hughes Springs.
I would like to include much about my mother's life, family and history to this book. To that end, I would like to correspond with anyone who remembers Minnie Rankin (sister of Alie Ruie, Lillian, Vivian, Lotha, Betty, Winnie, Nina, Elise, Ruby, Pete and Jack). I also understand that Minnie Rankin was the librarian at Hughes Springs High School before she left to become one of the first Government Girls in Washington, DC in April 1942. I also understand that she played basketball in high school. And I would especially like more information on her first marriage to Vernon Ray sometime (I assume) in the late '30's or early '40's).
