(Akron- OH) Arshinkoff dismisses the Central Committee’s support of Incumbent County Councilwoman Louise Heydorn for an Arshinkoff loyalist who has never won an election. Last night Summit County GOP Chair Alex Arshinkoff called a meeting of members of his hand picked Executive Committee to select longtime Arshinkoff loyalist Gloria Rogers to fill the ballot vacancy left by Arshinkoff disciple John Widowfield, who withdrew from the race amid allegations of scandal. Prior to Monday night’s meeting Heydorn personally handed copies of petitions signed by the majority of the Central Committee Members in District 3 supporting her for the ballot vacancy.“Filling ballot vacancies is one of the basic rights of the Central Committee Members who were duly elected by the Republicans in their precinct,” says Heydorn.“The Central Committee has a right to have a voice on this issue and they were blatantly ignored.” Only 14 members of Arshinkoff’s Executive Committee showed for the meeting and they proceeded to elect Gloria Rogers on the recommendation of Arshinkoff against the clear wishes of the Central Committee. At the end of Monday’s meeting Heydorn attempted address the Executive Committee and Arshinkoff refused to allow her to speak and immediately adjourned the meeting. Ohio law grants the Central Committee the ability to fill vacancies, but at the organization meeting in April, Arshinkoff pushed through rules that allowed his hand picked Executive Committee to take action versus those that were elected by their neighborhood Republicans. Carol Klinger who also attended the meeting said,“It is clear that Arshinkoff is focused on attempting to elect people that are loyal to him regardless of whether a candidate is qualified for the office. Not only did he skip over the incumbent, but he also skipped over the candidate that gave Republicans the best chance to hold the seat in November. By choosing to act in his own best interest and not in the interest of the Republicans in District 3, Arshinkoff has now all but given the Democratic Party complete control of Summit County Council.” Klinger continued to say,“Apparently Alex forgot that Louise Heydorn successfully pushed through the ballot initiative to give the voters the right to approve all County sales tax increases. She is the only Republican on County Council, during her 16 years she has asked the tough questions and is respected by her peers. There will be a huge void to fill by the next councilman and the residents of District 3 will suffer and there is no one to point the finger at but Alex Arshinkoff. This time he picked the nice lady over the proven winner.”

Yes, a top flight candidate. Gloria Rodgers has never won an election. Not for lack of trying though. The voters have rejected her four times. It would have made too much sense to pick Heydorn, who actually wins elections. Isn't she the only Republican left on County Council? Well done Arshinkoff wing of the GOP. Well done. God save the queen.

I'll bet it warms the Dems' hearts to see that Alex is still bent on running the party into the ground. As a result of his hissy fit over Heydorn, he passed her over and put Widowfield in as a candidate. That worked so well he nows puts another nobody in to run.
Pretty soon, due to Alex, there won't be any Republicans left in county office and we can just ignore county politics.

Wasn't it Abraham Lincoln who ran and lost in 17 races before he won the Presidency? You know, sometimes the candidates who would bring integrity and honesty to the office are really blasted by those who oppose their efforts. I've lost count of my runs for office...but like Gloria Rodgers, I've not given up either. Now that's patriotism. Cause it sure ain't fun.

Heydorn lost in the primary to Widowfield,
When you outspend your opponent 50-1 and get 33% of the vote, I don't think that counts as a "loss".

The people let her know what they think of her, they DO NOT WANT HER IN OFFICE. When you loose by numbers as Louise, one should reconsider their future and not listen to the has beens and the soon to be has beens. In all the years Louise has sat on council you mean to tell us this is all she has done while representing the Republicans? Sounds just like another Coughlin, sitting on the job starting trouble for others.

If I was Louise Heydorn, I would choose to run as an independent. She's well qualified for the council seat she has held for 16 years and a moderate which fits into the Summit County political mainstream. We don't need Neo_Con Republicans who Arshinkoff likes such as Gloria Rodgers on council. The day of the Republican Neo_Cons will pass when Bush & Cheney retire January 2009.

According to Ohio Revised Code she can't as she was in a partisan primary for the seat.

This event in another documentation that Summit County voters made a HUGE mistake in trading State of Ohio mandated structure of an elected three (3) County Commissioners for what has become in practice an appointed one (1) person so-called "Executive," complete with his/her so-called "County Council." Needed now is return to State of Ohio law and what other State of Ohio voters enjoy: Three elected County Commissioners. Under State of Ohio law County Council membership is non-existent. Alex and his warm, loving relationship with Democrat (Socialist) Party friends would have, and should have, no County Council seats to manipulate. Currently, the two Parties in Summit County agree on who will run for office and who will win. They assure success for themselves by agreeing to place a nobody loser against a somebody almost certain to win, making a sham of our so-called democratic election process.

Its one thing to run a few times to get your name out. It's quite another to spitefully resurrect a dinosaur rejected by Republican voters over ten years ago over a very well qulified candidate in Louise Heydorn who won this seat four years ago. This is nothing but a patheic move by a pathetic man. Coyne is right: get rid of this overblown, over-expensive council form of government.

All you Lousie lovers should try calling her sometime and see if she ever returns your call or e-mail! Please accept the fact that she LOST the primary to John Widowfield who was outspent three to one. Asking Tough Questions what meeting are you watching Council meeting are you watchingNEWGOP? I am from district 3 and not only voted against Louise campaigned against her! Louise was lucky not to have anyone run against her last time so she has been on a free ride in that County Council seat.

Why would Alex want to put Gloria Rogers in that seat when SHE HAS NEVER WON AN ELECTION and Louise Heydorn has been elected 5 consecutive times? The answer; Gloria Rogers will do Alex's bidding and Louise Heydorn is an intelligent, independent woman who makes decisions based on what is right. The puppet John Widowfield was chosen to run against Louise because the current Summit County Republican Party is actually the Alex Arshinkoff republican party.
Thank you New Summit Republicans for standing up against this jerk.
