I'm really sorry to hear about Wal-Mart's new policy to begin later this year. When my children were young it was a big help to hit that after Thanksgiving sale and lay Christmas away. With all the plant closings I think it will be missed.

This will be the dumbest thing that walmart could ever do. Because that is at least 50% of there sales, not only thru the Holidays but thru aout the rest of the year. I as well as others will find other places to shop that offers Layaways. The middle to lower class of families this is how they buy for their children. It's a HUGE mistake for Walmart to no longer have Lawaways.

What are people going to do there will be alot of children that will not be able to get anything for Christmas because the parents depends on layaways. I guess Kmart and Maxway will get all the business for layways I know they will get mind.

I have been doing layaway for years. i think it is really bad how they have decided to get rid of it. walmart prices are not too much cheaper than other stores. to get rid of layaway will be like giving away there customers. why shop at walmart for your childrens clothes when you can shop at places like jc penney and get some of the same clothes for cheaper during sales. layaway was just for the convenience of not having to pay all at once.

Well, I can go to other stores now to layaway. Wal-Mart isn't the only store in the world!

I cannot believe this! What about people who cannot afford to spend hundreds of dollars during the holidays at one time. What about people on a fixed income or people with big families! I have been getting my 4 childrens Christmas layaways there for years and now what am i going to do? I guess they dont care!!!!! Sad!! A company that big making a dumb move like this.

Jennifer I agree with you there.I also think they are so gigantic they think they have consumers in their hip pocket however I agree with another poster other stores offer cheaper prices during their sales events. If you will note their sales papers aren't really sales papers at all they are just quoting their so called everyday low prices.I personally hate that the K-Mart closed in our town.

I think that Walmart is making a huge mistake by discontinuing their layaway department. Layaway is an ideal way for middle class and lower class familes to obtain, the things that they need and want for their families at affordable prices. It is also a good thing for high school students, who are college bound and getting ready to venture out on their own. Walmart is a great place to start, for all of their household needs. Also, as a young healthcare professional; I had plans of furnishing the rest of my apartment via Walmarts layaway, while I finished my night classes and maintained my regular financial responsibilities at the same time. I am very disappointed in Walmart for cancelling their layaway. I'm sure that I can go to other places and use their layaway but, there are just some things that you can find at Walmart that you can't find at other stores. Even, if that wasn't the case, Walmart had a lot of good deals on things that I like to buy.

Just a sad move and a bad one too. My family has always looked forward to putting holiday items in lay-away after Halloween and Thanksgiving. This was a means for me to "pay out" without having to dish so much money at one time! Many families do this in America. Everyone that I have spoken to personally agree with me....and we hope to find other stores that offer layaways for us. If Wal-mart had to make this decision, could they not have at least done away with layaway all year except during the holidays? Surely this wrong move will have them lose money! Just watch and see their numbers drop.

I DON'T LIKE THE THOUGHT OF YOU CLOSING THE LAYAWAY DEPARTMENT. JUST LIKE MANY HAVE SAID WE WILL HAVE TO GO TO K-MART TO BUY THINGS NOW. I HAVE FOUR CHILDREN AND TO GO TO WALMART AND PAY CASH FOR ALL THERE CHRISTMAS GIFTS AT ONE TIME IS NOT SOMETHING I CAN AFFORD TO DO. JUST TODAY I WENT AND GOT A CHRISTMAS LAYAWAY OUT,AND WILL BE LAYING MORE AWAY. I HAVE USED YOUR LAYAWAY FOR MANY YEARS. I AM NOT RICH AND I DONT WANT TO HAVE TO USE MY CREDIT CARDS SO THAT MY FAMILY CAN HAVE A GREAT CHRISTMAS.I ALSO USE THE LAYAWAY AT OTHER TIMES OF THE YEAR. I WOULD REALLY LIKE FOR YOU TO CHANGE THIS. WE ARE THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE MADE YOUR BUSINESS TO BE ONE OF THE TOP STORES, PLEASE DONT MAKE US HAVE TO MOVE BACK TO KMARTS.

Yep, this is def. going to boost the sales at K-Mart for sure. With 3 kids and one on the way there is no way that even as a solid middle class family we can afford all new school clothes, baby items, etc without layaway - not to mention Christmas. Good thing K-Mart in Morganton isn't that far of a drive.
Hopefully though Wal-Mart will realize what a big mistake this is once they start losing money (which is what they are all about in the first place anyway.)
