Man fires rifle at woman

BROOKSVILLE - A man was charged with aggravated assault Monday after firing his rifle in the direction of a woman running away from him, deputies said.

Charles M. Owen, 61, of 6063 Desales St., told authorities he chased a group of people armed with a .22-caliber rifle and fired a shot in their direction, according to an arrest report.

The victim told the Hernando County Sheriff's Office she arrived at Owen's house to discuss a car she had purchased from him in April.

She bought it for $500, but it did not run, she said. Owen promised to fix it for her and she arrived at his house Sunday, at which time he told her to return the next day, according to the report.

When she arrived Monday afternoon, Owen stepped outside his house with a rifle and told the victim she would not be getting the car, deputies said.

He pointed the rifle at her and she ran toward her truck. While she was running, Owen fired a shot, according to the sheriff's office.

The victim was with two other people and they also ran away when they noticed Owen with his rifle, deputies said.

A neighbor also told authorities he heard the rifle shot, according to the report.

Owen was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm and taken to jail. His bond was set at $7,000.

Seems that people in HC are full or rage or anger, lately alot of batteries/yesterday there was a stragulation on Broad St. I think we're in the old West, shootem up at the OK Corral.

Poor Charles. Insulted about the way he looks when he doesnt even know its happening!.

Talk about civil people. Zero tolerance for anyone who does not look "normal" to them or live "normal" to them. Zero tolerance. Sounds like nazi's to me, not civil people.

Perhaps if he saw a photo of you he would think it was a retired cast memember from "the stepford wives".

You're dealing with people who cannot understand debate and discussion. They are simple single minded people. They live in seclusion and read the newspaper, only the local one.

I don't think there are simple minded people on this forum, you may think so, but in reality seemed that everytime there is a difference of opinion nerves get frayed and then the name calling begins. I for one read several newpapers (out of state) plus two locals, does that make me simple minded?

I dont think there are simple minded people here, just people who see it one way and that is the only way. Like these quotes on unemployment rates. Those are the maximums. To get the maximum you have to have high salary to begin with. Some states are 50% of your former wages, some 40%, it varies. But they look at the maximum rates and think people are rolling in the dough sitting at home watching Judge Judy everyday. That is not what is happening.

What is happening is people who were loyal company people are out of work due to the depression. In the 30's they would be out selling pencils or apples on the street. Today things are more modernized and there are safety nets in place.

Yeah, the numbers look big, but in reality the people have to live on 1/2 of their prior earnings. If they made more than the max rate provides for they are the loosing end.

I dont see why nerves get frayed. To me that is a lack of maturity and stubborness against accepting any opinion but their own.

Oh well.

I am on about 15 different chat/discussion boards everyday.
This is just one of my stops along the route. I think I am going to drop this stop though as it is way too unproductive.

Single minded yes, simple no. It makes no difference on how many newspapers you read, it is the ability to accept different thoughts that makes a difference.
