homeless sex offenders are the most dangerous because they always on the move . there are several homeless offenders in our area scares me being single mom of two girls. i think if they dont have a address they should be in jail or a halfway house and off the streets.

Guess what,

What are they doing about the thousnads of offenders who were not registered at sentencing and now live among us. It's your neighbor, dad, coach, or doctor. These are the people we should be worried about!!!!!!!!!!

Scarey stuff.
They sold the idea of public registries based on the idea it would only be for sex offenders, but a quick search shows that registries have spread beyond that. Now there are all kinds of registries.

Goverment tracking supposedly free citizens with microchips? Hey, its only for perverts, so its ok. We'll see how long that will last.

Instead of playing games with the liberties of supposedly free citizens, can't we just sentence actual sex criminals to life in prison? And I mean, at sentencing, none of this civil commitment after they've served their sentence nonsense. I mean, is there a huge sex offender lobby that would fight life sentences? I doubt it.

And if we don't want to keep them in prison for life (not sure who doesn't) then why can't we stipulate lifetime parole (under which they can be supervised for life without our system playing games with our principles of freedom).

Exactly what type of sex offenders have to register? Because some are labeled sex offenders for being 17 and having sex with a 13 year old. Even though the parents allowed the "friendship",until the girl ends up pregnant. Wrong, yes, but not on the same level as a man who brutally rapes an 8 year old. Please don't get me wrong....I am not defending these creeps, just wondering which crimes require registration.

jas,
thats a good point. When we say sex offender, most of us mean child molester or rapist. And we reserve our deepest scorn for them. So, its pretty messed up with teens, romeo and juliets, and public nuisance (streakers, doing it in a car, public urinators) get swept up in the label

I'm kind of with Joey on this one - the DNA registry was only supposed to be for sex offenders, now its for anyone whose committed a felony. And there's a proposal to expand it to anyone who has been arrested for a felony, regardless of a conviction or not. Maybe if we help each other we won't need the federal government to do it. Oh, wait, I just read unrepentent's post.

Where are all of their caring daring compassionate generous nonjudgemental noble open-minded moderate tolerant selfless empathetic sympathetic diversity-desciple liberal friends, who are eager and willing to open their doors to these misunderstood victims of society and the Bush Administration, letting them into their houses and spouses and homes to do some harmless masturbation because they would not do it to or with their kids like they once did?

I have spent some time reading all the comment's-not too much study went to the comments that were made . there is not a month that goes by that some group is trying to pass a new Law re-guarding sex offenders. everyone one a law passed where they could live well that left a lot of them no where to go and with out a place they could call home how could they hold down a job , don't anyone read what is going on in this country. the people you should be worrying about is not on the regeneracy but living among you some in your own homes. what about the man that abuse his wife or the drunk driver or the man down the road that sells drugs to your childern
