I was terminated by Sprint just before completing 5 years of service and I was over 40 years of age. I knew what was going on but the atty I consulted. Told me that they could terminate me and I could do nothing.

Any suggestions on how to get in on this class action?

Thanks

Jerry,
Sorry to say, you are too late to join this class action.

I was part of Sprint PCS’s 2002 layoff. Shortly after the layoff, I received notification via mail concerning the initiation of the class action lawsuit. I’m unable to locate the document I received, but I do recall reading that I didn't need to do anything to participate. I've attempted to acquire additional information concerning the resent settlement without any success. I'd like to know if I am still included and who is the contact concerning this issue?

I greatly appreciate any assistance you can provide.

Sincerely,

Annie Martin

I was let go in 2000.At that time,I considered it age descrimination, but felt I had no recourse. At that time I was over 50. Could I have been included in the class action suit? If not is there anything I can do now. Thanks

This was not a true 'class action' but a 'collective action' lawsuit. You had to opt in to be one of the plaintiffs.
"The settlement would cover about 1,700 former employees who were laid off between October 2001, and March 2003."
I'm still waiting for the final settlement; I figure they'll come up with some way to shaft me again. I really shouldn't complain too much; I retired early and haven't had any financial problems yet.
I'm SUPPOSED to get a decent amount out of this one - not like the 3 "settlements' on the financial frauds from the Worldcom 'merger'; I collected a grand total of $6 from the 3 class actions.

Now when Sprint lays you off they make you sign a paper that you won't sue them if you want your severance pay.

Thats right 1fatboy -- you sign the same deal if you take the voluntary separation (which I did) and I'm SOOOO glad to be gone from that place.

I still talk to friends there and they say nothing's changed - worse if anything.

Good riddance Sprint!

Our call center in Jacksonville, Fl was closed. Popham Law Firm in Kansas City, MO represented us along with other law firms and AARP. For me this was unexpected. I sent in requested info each time I was contacted. And thought nothing more of it.
It really PAYS to respond. I'm hearing it was approved 9/10/2007 ....the judge has to sign off on it. Then we have to wait 30 days for appeal.....Then $$ on the way by end of November...Merry Christmas..........And thank you Sprint for not dragging it out.

I was employed by Sprint for 10 years and in the lay off in 2003. I didn't receive any information regarding this age discrimination class action suit. I was 40 at the time and would like to have more information from someone I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks so much!

LOL, I'm broke 2. That's why I called Popham after the judgement on 9/10. The person I spoke with said there is a 30 day wait period for appeal, after the judge signs off on it. And it'll probably be november b4 checks are sent out. I just wish they would send out letter with updates and confirmation for everyone.

It's not clear to me - can someone clarify - the amount of payout to each person, is that before or after tax, or is there any tax (punitive damages I believe have no taxes) taken for this settlement?

Okay Leslie, now I'm with you...nothings clear. Info in the newspapers(kansas city star and the business journal) is saying the lawyers get a separate payout(age discrimination lawsuit) Only info I'm getting is thru Goggle for missouri newspapers. And today there is another article for a lawsuit for shareholders 57.5 million. It mentions other lawsuits and it says there is a PRELIMINARY hearing for Dec 10 for FINAL hearing. Well our hearing was Sept.10. I don't know Broke_Waiting>>> >>sounding like a ripper and another dragging it out.....Check this out? n today's newspaper. Anybody had stock in sprint???http://www.kansascity .com/105/story/289338.html
