"My Two Cents" are you serious? Wal-Mart has a number of Grants that give back to the community, and any non-profit organization can apply for these grants locally. These grants range from 500 to 5000 dollars and even up to 25000. Also they have a "Matching Grant" that will double the amount raised at any local charitable fundraiser. So I would say that you can get a lot more than a dime from Wal-Mart. As for you "MsPorter" Kathy Lee? really? you can hardly blame that on Wal-Mart and they no longer sell those products. One instance is hardly enough to qualify as a general practice.

MsPorter, I'm afraid that you may have some misinformation. I have worked for Wal-Mart for over 10 years and I have to make a comment in regards to some of the things that you are passing as fact. First of all, the latest survey shows that the average pay rate for a Wal-Mart associate is close to $11 per hour. I personally know some who make closer to $20. Wal-Mart's base pay rate it $7.25. Secondly, just because a company offers lower prices does not mean that they purchase their products from sweat shops. You have based a lot of your criticism on this assumption. Most larger companys can offer lower prices because they are given a lower cost of goods based on the volume that they purchase; in addition to this little fact, Wal-Mart effects its costs because it operates its own logistics (or Trucking Company) further reducing its overhead and allowing it to pass those saving on to the consumers. Where do you think that the local businesses buy their merchandise? I'll tell you; from the same suppliers that service Wal-Mart, they are simply required to offer it at a larger price because they have to pay private fleets to deliver product locally. Finally, the latest research on the matter shows that between 70 and 80% of Wal-Mart associates have health coverage, and I'm not sure what the national average is for health care coverage, but considering that medicare and medicade are factored into that number, I'm sure that the percentages are slightly misleading. I can tell you that I am happy with the amount that I have to pay for coverage, I think my dental is like $6. Anyway, this is for 80% coverage with no copay, and Rx coverage. I don't think that I've paid over $10 for any medicine I've had to have. Am I saying that everything that Wal-Mart does is perfect, no there are a lot of things that I do not agree with, but they have done a lot for my family and for MILLIONS of other families around the world. There is also one other thing that I feel the need to say. "MsPorter" you have been very critical of Lyssa over her spelling; please do me a favor the next time you post and remember to use these two words in the proper context: "to" vs "too", they have seperate definitions and should be used accordingly. I'm not trying to make fun of you, it's just a little thing that's buggin me. Thank you all for your time.
Don't forget "their" vs "there." and this is what this woman does. She must not have a job. If she is a stay at home mom, her kids must be doing whatever they want because she is on topix for every town around here for a 100 mile radius. It is all day every day from morning until night. She starts fights with everyone in every town and does not live in this state. She constantly uses misinformation that she has gotten from some website. I personally think she is mentally ill and can't work so she is on topix all the time. I simply don't see how she could be at work or a mom as much time as she spends on this.

Haha! I checked some of MsPorter's other quotes, what a joke! You're right, she must not have a life. What a loser that you go to other towns local forums to try to pick fights with people. Lol. She always disagrees or takes the antagonistic side of every argument. Wow, who would dream people could be so stupid.

I was born and raised in the area moron. It is a free site and I can get on any topic I please as it is public. I lived there until recently when my house burned down and my son almost died and had to be transferred to Texas Children's Hospital for treatment.

I gave one example but it is not the only one out there. You completely left out the sweatshop toys from China I mentioned. You also left out the information I provided from a memo released BY WAL-MART.

LMAO...somebody puts up FACTS from a WAL-MART MEMO and it is called misinformation, your funny. As far as the claim of mentally ill that is cute cause that is actually what I do for a living is care for the mentally ill. I generally post in the middle of the night because I worked 2nd shift for years and cant sleep at night because of it. I do on occasion check it through out the day on my PDA such as now.

I didn't say that Walmart didn't donate ANYTHING, but that they only donate 1% of their profits, much, much less than any other corporation. It is a matter of record - google it.

nearly everyone that has commented on this topic is an idiot, Wal-Mart does provide benefits!!!! I get them. The also provide longer luch breaks than 30 min. It justs depends on how long your shift is. Each employee also gets a 15 min break every two hours roughly. It is by FAR the easiest job I have ever done. It provides nearly two hundred jobs to texas county, and is all in all a decent place to work. Hate it if you want for pushing smaller buisness out but that is just life, and eventually walmart will be pushed out just like sears was. history always repeats its self.

Just returned from a rare visit to Wally World. My only complaint is the rudeness some associates display. Tonight just reminded me of why I don't like to go there.

If you like your job, act like it! If you hate your job, find another one. The rest of us have lives and problems too, and we don't come to Wal-Mart to hear about yours.

I think Wal-Mart needs to make THE FISH STORY mandatory reading for all its employees.

Disclaimer: There are many very nice people who work at Wal-Mart--they just don't make the news (or in this case Topix). Kudos to those who really do treat people well!

I seldom go to wallymart to buy anything just because .5% of their products are made in the USA and not 100%...i shop locally and in specialty stores where they dont have MICE running around...if they dont allow dogs then why do they have vermin running around in the store? How "clean" can u get!
Local stores buy american for the most part.

"I have to real think to figure out what you are trying to spell. There is no way anybody would hire you because they would not be able to figure out what the hell you wrote on your application. I am sorry I am not to ignorant to sign up for benefits when they are offered, unlike you who is to ignorant to know how to spell. I also think you are full of crap because you conveniently chose to claim to work there the same year I did, but I know why you chose the same year. It is because you are to ignorant to be able to type any other number without copying off somebody's post. "

Wow talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Porter, Walmart's has always been known for offering a good to excellent benefit package to employees.

I do wish some of them would look for a different job. It is obvious a few do not like working there. These few individuals are rude, sour and not helpful when you need them. Some of them appear to be new and maybe feel they are in a deadend job. Others are probably only a couple of years from retirement and have lost all enthusiasm and pride they might have had in their work.

Life is too short for that! Any place can be a great place or a horrible place to work. It is all about attitude.

Working with the public can be challenging. Customers can be rude and demanding too. But you still have to interact with them, so why not do it with a smile? Folks like me looking on will respect and admire you for it.

When there is a problem like mine, you can be a hero! Instead I left feeling like I wasn't worth your trouble.

With our current economy, customer service is becoming extremely important. There are other options out there, and if treated the way I was last week by an associate, people will explore the other options. Or they may make a complaint to management, which is what I feel I should do. I don't think it is fair to management not to let them know. They can't fix the problem if they do not know about the problem, and just venting on here will not help them.

Although it did make me feel alot better! Thanks.

Wal-Mart employs more people than any other company in the United States outside of the Federal government, yet the majority of its employees with children live BELOW the POVERTY line. "Buy American" banners are prominently placed throughout its stores; however, the majority of its goods are made outside the U.S. and often in SWEATHOPS.

The salary for full-time employees (called "associates") is $6 to $7.50 an hour for 28-40 hours a week, which is typical in the discount retail industry. This pay scale places employees with families below the poverty line, with the majority of employees' children qualifying for free lunch at school. When closely examined, this amounts to a form of corporate welfare, as the taxpayer subsidizes the low salaries. One-third are part-time employees - limited to less than 28 hours of work per week - and are NOT eligible for benefits.

SO SORRY PEOPLE I DO KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT. FEEL FREE TO CHECK THIS LINK OUT TO PBS.ORG

Many years ago the biggest retailer in the Midwest was Sears, Roebuck and Co. They had banners on their trucks, in their stores, "Shop at Sears and Save". Their employees' response was "shop at Sears and starve" ; today the story is the same, only now it's WalMart getting the bum rap.......

Daily Horoscope for December 20

Libra

It's another day when tensions are rife and you feel stretched to breaking point. You might even totally lose your temper with someone, instead of merely snapping at them as you did yesterday. Mars stomps into reverse today, so it would be better to clear the air now with a row, and then forget all about it, rather than allowing bad feelings to accumulate and fester inside you.
