It is un-american to shop at Walmart - their products are 90% from China, they drive small local stores out of business, and don't provide their employees with health insurance. Plus, I know 4 different people who have had their vehicles damaged in Walmart's parking lot! Walmart is what put Rawling's out of business - people buying the chinese products at Walmart lessened the demand for the american-made products at Rawlings - voila - Rawlings closed in Licking, and is now in China! There are serious repercussions to our community if you patronize Walmart.

I only go in Wal-Mart is I absolutely have to. If it's something that's not available anywhere else in town, I wait until I am going to Rolla or Springfield to buy it (and NOT at Wal-Mart).

Yes, I willingly pay extra to buy items at places like Town & Country, Ross Lumber, Debo's, etc... These are my neighbors and I refuse to give ammunition to a bully competitor (Wal-Mart) who takes away from our hometown folks.

I agree, Two Cents, un-American! We won't even talk about how little children are treated in those overseas sweat shops that supply Wal-Mart. Oh, but I guess if we can't see them or hear them crying it really is not happening, huh?

I think the people in WalMart are the most unprofessional and rude group I have encountered. I, like others, do whatever I can not to use WalMart for anything, but they have forced so many out that at times there is no other choice!

I realized that is your opinion and you are entitled to it, but you're lumping everyone into one category. They're not all unprofessional and rude. Some are, but most are not. As I tell my kids if it's "everyone else" all the time, it may not be "everyone else" but may be you instead.

I have only met a few people at that store who are rude and unprofessional and for all of you who are bagging on the company, think about this; If that store wasn't there, probably 200 + people wouldn't have a job that was close to home. Also, there wouldn't be a continuous flow of money coming to the city on sales tax alone. So for all of you anti wal-mart people, get your facts before you go talking crap about something.

I disagree. Many local businesses closed when Wal-Mart entered the scene. With their closing jobs were LOST. Think of all the shops downtown that no longer exist. All of them had multiple employees that I would wager were treated better than Wal-Mart with their infamous 39 hour work weeks so they don't have to provide benefits.

Good grief, they are even opening medical clinics now. M..O...N..O..P..O..L..Y

Fact check back to you, baby.

Not "crap" just the way I do business--the NO WAL-MART way. I support LOCAL businesses. It keeps the taxes here in Texas County instead of Arkansas.

Well said, Desperate Measures - and I agree with the person who said they would rather spend a little more and keep a small local business afloat. I try to spend my money locally, and patronize as many small businesses as I can. I'm sure the chinese are nice folk, but I'm not pre-disposed to support their economy when the dollars are needed here!

"Fact Check", What are you talking about? The 39hr work weeks are full time positions and Wal-Mart provides benefits to both full time and part time positions, and if you think that cutting out one hour a week makes any difference in benefits than you don't know what your talking about. So I'm sad to say that your "Fact Check" is just another dribble of crap, and if you think that the products that the local businesses are selling aren't manufactured in China also than you are sadly mistaken. I'm not saying that I don't support Local business, all I'm saying is that it's not a bad thing if Wal-Mart comes to town. Sure a few local businesses closed, but the 5 or 6 jobs that were lost doesn't compare to the hundreds that were created. Not trying to start a fight, just again stating the facts.

My sister worked there full time for a long time and they do not provide benefits. I worked there in 2003 and they did not provide benefits. 30 min lunch break and 10% off purchases is not benefits. Affordable health/dental/vision insurance for the employee and their family is a benefit. Life insurance is a benefit. 401K is a benefit.

Isn't it interesting, no ironic, that some people get most of their vision paid for if they go to Wal Mart vision center. We pay 20% for glasses and get contacts for practically nothing. That is a real shame on them.

What are you talking about. I am sure you are trying to make a point but you are leaving out information that makes it possible for other readers to get your point. I truly am not trying to be rude as it is hard to project tone across the internet. Just needing more info on what you are trying to say.

You are full of sh*t you could not have possibly worked there in 2003 because you could not spell well enough to complete the application or sign up for your fake benefits. I usually do not point out minor spelling errors but I have to real think to figure out what you are trying to spell. There is no way anybody would hire you because they would not be able to figure out what the hell you wrote on your application. I am sorry I am not to ignorant to sign up for benefits when they are offered, unlike you who is to ignorant to know how to spell. I also think you are full of crap because you conveniently chose to claim to work there the same year I did, but I know why you chose the same year. It is because you are to ignorant to be able to type any other number without copying off somebody's post.

MsPorter, you either actually didn't work for Walmart in 2003, or you were too ignorant to realize what was being offered to you, or you are simply just a foul person who could care less and would rather argue. Walmart does offer benefits, and many available at the date of hire, regardless of part time or full time. I think you need to get off of Lyssa's back, because as far as I can tell, if you look past the spelling errors, she knows 100% more about Walmart than you do.

And while we're talking about it, good luck finding a local business who offers benefits to someone with no work experience, or, pays them close to the $ amount that Wal-Mart does to work. Now, I am by no means going to start listing off businesses on here that don't, but to all of you who are complaining about Wal-Mart running local businesses off, there was a reason for it. The strong have survived against Wal-Mart, and it has forced the local business to be more competitive. If you ask me, it's a good thing for the community...even if you don't take into consideration the 200+ jobs they created and the tax dollars generated. I'm just saying, before you post back, think through your head of local businesses who DO offer the benefits and pay Walmart does to the same individuals hired straight off the street with little to no work experience. Go ask some of the associates who work there how bad it is, ask one of the associates with a 5 year, 10 year, 20, or even 25 year badge on their chest what motivated them to stay? Just think about it, that's all I'm asking.
