Sounds like they understand the pattern. The private sector should not take the heat for public sector mistakes and bad budget forecasting. We all have to do our Patriotic Duty to take pay cuts.

The issue at hand is not whether to raise taxes to balance the budget, the real issue is whether to raise taxes to cover up the incompetence of our elected officials to manage money - PERIOD!

This is the most idiotic state, won't be long until we surpass Mississippi as the 50th state in education.
Of course you raise taxes on such things as natural gas, oil, and coal. Companies are making tons of money on public lands, and will continue to even if taxes are raised.
Oh well, looking at the previous comments you guys like being dead last in education.

The state douche bags raised my property taxes over 40 percent after I bought my home and they want yet more!!!

Tax problems are easily solved in a democracy of idiots.

They'll just go to their pals at the FED who will print some stimulus money, problem solved.

FYI: The city of DC (our nations crapital) spends over thirty grand on education benefits for each and every "welfare recipient" and what do we have to show for our money? They still can't read or write and are among the most stupid people in the nation.

It doesn't cost anything to educate. Libraries are free to all.

You liberals can get your fat lipped hands out of my pockets.

Meanwhile the price for virtually everything is going up. Not to fear our politicians really care about us and they have a solution. They'll raise the minimum wage.

Wow Dave maybe you should find one of those libraries.
DC isn't a state, and actually leads the way in the use of vouchers, so you now admit vouchers don't work, thanks for ending that argument.
Oh and BTW, taxes pay for libraries too, and when all those students need to go to libraries we will need just as much money.
Go troll somewhere in Ohio, i here there is an election to steal up there.

I never said DC was a state.

You liberals always try to put words in peoples mouth's. That tactic doesn't work on me.

By the way the Vouchers system is just a euphemism for Busing. How about giving vouchers to DC welfare recipients so they can go to Yeshiva's?

I have no problem paying taxes for libraries. I do have a problem paying for the schooling of illegal aliens who vandalize our schools.
I have a problem paying more taxes to provide free snap to an ever growing population of illegal aliens, drug addicts and criminals.

Liberals politicians and advocates tend to have more money then regular tax paying middle class folk. I think liberals should pay for all these Utopian schemes with their own dam money.

It's funny how the controlled media packages Busing and makes it sound "conservative" by givinjg it a new name "School Voucher" program. Then they have Rush Limbaugh tell the idiots the Voucher concept is such a great deal for everyone.

Like it would be SOOOOoooo wonderful to allow the dregs from where ever to voucher themselves to your posh neighborhood school. NOT!!

I don't understand why the education system can't pony up and take the cuts that they want the rest of state government to take. We spend more and receive less from our education system today than we did twenty years ago. Being a teacher is a noble profession however the education system has become a business. Throwing more money into a broken system won't fix it, it will waste more money.

Dave- New Mexico is not Toledo. Ohio. As for taxes- one proposal would make them fair- many local business owners are plenty steamed that Wal-Mart (and other big box corporations doing in business in New Mexico) gets a free ride and pays not one dime of corporate tax while New Mexico small businesses pay it.

Since you live in Ohio, it won't be you seven year old that comes home very upset because her favorite teacher has had her classroom closed and she has gone elsewhere due to education cuts.

schooling illegal aliens who vandalize our schools
Dave.
You are totally clueless about what is going on in New Mexico Schools. I do know and what vandalism that doe occur in the schools especially graffiti by "wanna be" a gang member U.S. citizen students under the influence of bad rap music from Ohio.

Teachers already took a pay cut. Also teacher health care costs went way up this year. But beyond their patriotic duty to take additional pay cuts and buy paper for their learning materials since cuts to education already have sacrificed these needed supplies, further education cuts will cut classrooms and teachers.

Meanwhile Walmart which profits greatly in New Mexico pays not on cent of corporate tax to New Mexico- but New Mexico small business does.

Marie,

You are yet another example of person from out- of-state who does not know what is really happening in New Mexico. During the last legislative session our schools were cut to the bone. New Mexico spends three to four thousand dollars less per student than other states including Florida. Taxpayers are getting bargain rates on public education. It's not about money management, its about declining tax revenues to pay for already meager State government budget. It also about big tax cuts for the wealthy (not the middle class) in New Mexico 3 years ago that destroyed the tax base needed to pay for bargain rate government services
