"BRK" used to be the stock symbol for publicly-traded firm Berkshire Hathaway, controlled by Warren Buffett.
The symbol is now BRK-A and BRK-B. |

European countries use those oval stickers to indicate the country where the automobile is registered. Now that the standard EU license-plate contains the country code, they are falling out of use. Many Europeans find it strange that Americans would use them as an indication of affinity or heritage.
Then Vermont started using them, and it was ironic, because Vermont is like another country, at least culturally. When they started to appear with random letters as signs of affinity for all kinds of regions and organizations, I wonder if the owner of the car knows about the official use or the irony? When I was living abroad I did not take my old registration sticker and stick it on the back of my car there. I also would hesitate before placing a big "berk" sticker on the back of mine here. Has anyone looked it up in the urban-dictionary? |
