To Mr. Clueless with all due respect I don't agree that he should only receive a fine. Please see my previous comments. I am a Certified NRA Hand Gun Instructor certified to to teach personal home defense, proper storage of fire arms. I am also a certified Range Officer through the National Range Officers Institute. You don't forget were you place or store your firearms at any given time. You don't have a second chance when you are irresponsible with a fire arm, weather you fire it or don't fire it. As I said before, they should charge him and maybe even forget where the key is to his jail cell!

If you read the story, it was NOT his gun. So it is possible that a non-gun owner may forget where you put someone else's gun. |

I am sorry I did read the story. The more reason to press charges and makes the situation even more dangerous. Now you possibly have a man who doesn't even know how to handle a Firearm. He should of gotten the proper folks involved from the start way back in Mich. which is very clear from reading the story he did not do and has broken state and federal laws... gun owner or not. He took matters into his own hands not looking into all the ramifications and putting other people at risk....gun owner or not. I am even wondering how is friend is since his friend was considering suicide. Sorry still stand firm no second chances in this case!!

its ms. clueless... lol u have a good point but then again it wasnt his gun. and my point was the story was only reported due to the police officer who was playing solitaire on the job. if it hadn't been for that we would have heard about the guns found in carry ons the first time it happened not after the third, because as the report says this is the third time they find a gun in someones carryon. so i guess they need to lock those people up to! |

When you used the words "your firearm", its obvious that you didn't read the story. And if they should charge him, they should have charged the other people that were caught doing the same thing, that didn't make the news. |

Oh I am sorry Ms. Clueless.....LOL sounds like you have a sense of humor too:) Please don't misunderstand me I agree I believe this police officer became complacent and was not doing his/her job and should face corrective action if not even loose his/her job if this has been an on going problem. I also agree that the other three people should face criminal charges and placed under lock and key. Thank God the other folks weren't complacent and doing their job:) I am retired from the criminal justice system with over 30 years of experience and found that complacence was a very difficult and realistic issue. Hopefully supervisors will stay on top of it and deal with it accordingly......Hey you have a great day........Ms. Clueless and keep that sense of humor:)

Oh Mr. Certified I have read the story and respect the fact you don't believe I have. If you go back and read my comments you will understand the context of "your firearms". I was speaking in general terms as if I were teaching a class. I am a firm believer if you are a responsible gun owner you would know where you have stored or placed your or someone's firearm at all times and please believe me I feel the other three people should be charged and placed under lock and key as well. There are procedures and laws in ways to handle someone's other than your hand guns and it is very clear MR. Edwards did not follow those procedures or laws regardless he forgot it was in his carry on.......sorry for the misunderstanding and very clear you have not followed my other comments:)

Sorry You are incorrect, was not a jail guard correct title is Corrections Officer.Several jobs, job titles etc inside a jail operated by New York State Department of Corrections. Just don't feel at liberty to share my job title or tasks inside as a civilian employee......I worked very closely and had a great rapport with the Correction Officers(Guards). Totally different job tasks and union than Correctional Officers:)Sorry:)We all worked together as a team to keep the jail safe and you safe from the criminals running the streets.

You seem really stuck on yourself, like you are all that. Maybe you should apply to guard the Airport, I'm sure you can play one mean game of Solitaire. |

Do you mean off duty cops, like pignato & Josephs? |

GetReal.....LOL no thanks I did 30 years of Guarding and ya probably did play a few games of Solitaire thru out my career. Sorry I offended you or you feel that way sure wasn't my intent. Just trying to explain(see other comments) to WHY from Roch I technically was not a Corrections Officer (Guard). I guess no matter what my job I was a guard in some sense. Please recognize though present or past NYSDOC employees Civilian Employee or Corrections Officer we risked or risk our life's everyday as do police officers, fire fighters or military personnel. You just never hear of all the tragedies within a NYSDOC Jail. Have a Great EVENING:)
