Hi there. Been reading everyone's comments.
Question for you all. I moved back to Dansville after being gone for 4 1/2 years. As I walked around town and saw all the closed businesses, I realized not one thing was geared towards kids.
Why is it if a kid is not involved in sports, band or scouts, there is really nothing to do except go to the movies? I can see why people leave the area. It's because there is hardly anything here and why exactly is that? Do you want the town to become non-existent? That's where it's headed. As I walked around the town, I noted many empty store fronts on main street and in area plazas. The old arcade is closed, the bowling alley is gone and so is the hobby shop. Years ago, Midway skating rink also closed. I saw commentary that the skate board park no longer was available either. Is it because our youth are not important to us? Is it because a few bad apples have come in and ruined it for everyone else? Do we not support businesses that try to cater to our youth or even us older folks looking for entertainment? Will drugs and alcohol be the only entertainment that ever stays in this town?
Yes, we all have to make a difference. We all have to care enough to attend meetings and voice our opinions. We have to be active. We need to attract families to the area not let them see the town as it looks right now, a developing ghost town. What can we do to attract and support area businesses? Why don't businesses make it or even want to come here? What's the underlying problem?
My friend and I have been contemplating opening a business in Dansville and have been considering the old Tops market as one of the locations.
We're looking to open up an entertainment type business geared towards families and kids. It would provide games and activities, monthly special events or more often. I want to provide a place for them to go that is not the local bar or pizza joint. I want to provide an area for kids. These young people need a place for themselves. This why our families move away. There is not much here for them.
What is your opinion? Would you support a business of this type? Or as everything else has ended up, would it just be another struggling business that eventually fails?
What do you say Dansville?
