county radios

the county has spent 2 million+ on a radio system that dosen't work !!!! our old high band system worked a lot better than this..and now we can't get paged out on new system...and the hand radios look good...just try to use them...the chief said we we not go in a burning house or building...because the new radios just don't work ....can we get our old radios back ???????? any other fireman have a problem with them ???????

yea,,,10-4 on that...the new stuff just dosen't work as good as what we had....be happy to get our old stuff back.....i thought kenwood was a good brand.....want my old radio back....west ky two way had every thing working good....palco's work is sloppy and does not look good....what has our county fathers done ??????

yea...the police radios don't work any better..told this was the best system...someone lied..i hear the portables we carry are 1,000.00+...and they don't work as good as my old motorola....sometime the new one works,,sometimes it dosen't...never had that problem before with the motorolas....palco h put the computers in the cars two....they don't work all the time eather....how many of us to get killed or hurt before we get a radio system we can trust...some of the other officers are talking about going to walmart to get cb radios....at least they work..and they are less than $40.00...not 1000.00

as in motorola....now we find out that our old radios could be reprogramed to meet the new fcc codes...we did not have to spend all this money..and we had a system that worked..just needed to be upgraded...west ky 2-way...is the best...i think we got a grant for this...but who is going to pay to make it work...now we can only get radios from palco..........on the old system ...any brand would work....can anyone look up court records and see who voted for this ??????

Have you tried to use the system in analog? The NXDN stuff is supposed to be analog and NXDN digital. Firefighters, have you tested your radios using the digital while wearing your SCBA AND inside a building (not a real fire) to see what it does? Many fire companies across the country have gone back to analog for fire ground because of digital encoding of noise that isn't human voice....

I think you are right, either that or they are on their payroll..all the cops I've talked to absolutely love the new system.

I work for HPD and I will tell the new system DOES work, and quit well!!! Have you talked with Mr. Powell and seen if maybe there is a programing issue with your HFD radios? Yes it is a new system, very complex and with anything new you will have to work some minor bugs out, just like with the old radios when we first got them. And yes it was a federal grant. Also what if I get into a fight on the street and my radio gets broke, will my Chief tell me not to fight? I'm still going in to protect the taxpayer and their property, who pays my salary with a radio on my side or not. Believe it or not BOTH our jobs are dangerous. You know they once told me that I might get shot, or stabbed or even killed as a Police Officer. Maybe they should have told you that you might loose your life in a burning building. I hope neither happens to you or I. But there is always that possibility. I am not a cop to get rich...it won't happen. I do the job I do to help others. And yeah it may cost me my life.

Why don't you ask them yourself instead of getting it second hand? I already know they are very pleased with it and it does not interfere with any of the fire gear. But ask for yourself.

well some people never learn they spend alot of money on radios but they dont work because you got people like west ky two way and palco all they care about is the sell they dont care about the quality of the equiptment they call themselves techs. but if you want working radios give ford communacations a call in greenville my department uses them and we never have a problem

yea,,,ford communications in greenville does all the radio work for the whole county....never had a problem...it just works.....we can talk to all the counties around us...police, fire.amb...road dept....why would you pay so much money when all you needed was the right radio shop ???? talk to joe ford...he will set you straight .....

now i hear the madinsonville is thinking about getting the same radios we have....it works in the city...but not in the county...well not in the east end any way....are we ever going to make this new systen as good as the old one ?????

Mine works in east county a lot better than the old one for sure. My cruiser unit works anywhere I go all the way to Elkton.

i work for packs....and don't know who fixed our radios...we have motorolas..and we could not talk around town...they got someone else to work on them and now we can talk from bowing green to paduca...they just work...are we on the new system with the rest of the county ????? don't ever hear any one else on it now that they are working right .....

we just put in a new fire repeater in in ohio county.....well cary of ford communications in greenville did......talk to henderson or bowling green with no problen.......and we spent less than 13,000 .....

did palco get the radios working ????? live in todd county...the fire chief are not wanting the new digital system...just up grade what we have...should have been at the meeting the other night....we heard about all the problems that you are having.....all old radios work just fine

Why don't you all grow up and see for yourselves instead of listening to rumors and...really...lies from those who have a vested interest in staying where they are. I hope the Todd fire chiefs get their wish...it will serve them right. Im ready to move from Todd County anyway.

well sam....do they work or not....we had one repeater that covered the whole county....now we have 5 with the new system and it does not cover as good and they want to put up more....and who going to pay for the up keep....hard to pay for what we have now....have to keep the old system to get pages...and now i find out they won't work with a mask....what is going on ?????
