atterbury is definitely what you make it. if you are the type of person that doesn't want to hang out with anyone or do anything around the center then you will hate it. or if you are the type of person that causes problems you will be in trouble alot. as for you having family and friends that you will miss everyone here does. but luckly you will be able to go home more than you think. especially if you are from indianapolis or somewhere close like that. the hardest part is the 1st week or so of you time there. that is when you don't know anyone but there are people that there for to help you. since i am an ambassador i am one of the people that you can come to if you have any problems. and the staff there arent like everyone says. alot of them do care about the students. but like i said email me if you have any questoins and i will do my best to answer them. living_my_life_for_me@hotmail. com |

Hey! I tried emailing you but it said it was an unknown address..?? IDK but my name is Robin I'm 21 and I live in Kokomo (its about 45 minutes from Indianapolis) I'm leaving Nov.3rd so in exactly 2 weeks... Idk what dorm I'm in yet I"m guessing I'll find out when I get there... someone told me we were allowed to bring a small TV & a dorm size refrigerator is that true? && how many suit cases are we allowed to bring my AC told me she thinks 2 but im tryin to figure out how imma get 30 days worth of clothes into 2 suit cases... lol neway im goin for CNA && i wanna do the LPN program when im done i know i gotta get good grades && behave && all that.:) Can we bring a laptop? I know it says dont bring anything valuable cuz they dont wanna be responsible or whatever but i wanna bring it... Are we allowed to smoke ciggs? cuz idk if im ready to quit lol... sorry im askin a lotta questions im just startin to get nervous :-/ P.s. oo yea and we can have our phones right? Ok well to start off with you will probably most likely be in ABL because LBJ is full. ABL is a great dorm. i was in there for the first 6 months of my time. I loved it. it has its issues but so does LBJ. As for the T.V. you are allowed to bring one. but it is your responsiblity. In ABL you are not allowed to have a refridgerator. they arent set up for that. you can bring you laptop if you want to. a lot of people bring theres. but you wont be able to get internet access do to the fact there is no wireless internet on center. about the suitcase how are you getting to indianapolis? if you are taking a bus then you can only bring what you are allowed to bring on the bus but if you are getting dropped off at the indianapolis bus station you can bring as much stuff as you want. the Residental Advisors in ABL like to see a girl bringing alot of stuff because they know that they are going to stay. the CNA program is more than a month long. im just letting you know that in advance incase you AC told you otherwise. it is 3 weeks class time and 2 weeks of clinicals then you have 6 weeks of off campus work based learning. you are allowed to smoke on the campus. you are only allowed to have 5 packs at one time though. they will explain all this stuff to you when you get here. by the way my name is lisa |

Hmm, tons of negative input here. Makes me wonder if I didn't make a colossal mistake in enrolling. At the risk of sounding misogynistic, can anyone provide a male perspective of this program? Preferably someone who has attended the program recently. It would also be greatly appreciated if I could get a students perspective on the Heavy Equipment Repair course. Lastly, I would be most appreciative if I could get information about the college courses that are available, if any. The person recruiting me had said that prospective students could get up to 2 years of free college. Thanks.

well i know just what all of the students are saying about atterbury is true because i went there in 2000-2001 an its really a whole nother world they have people there selling cigerettes alcohol weed an anything else you need an the lady that works the rec if shes still there she's short light skinned an wheres twist single i think her name is lindsey she would bring certain students cartons of cigs an drugs to sell. an another thing you can tell as soon as you get there if you'll make it through or not but me im a survivior an from detroit i had no choice but to make it right. an oh yea to all that still go or have went there mr. love is a perv right?

You have a closet that can 200lb guy 135lb girl and 150lb guy can fit in so i think there is alot of room in that for stuff. and then you get 4 dresser drawers. everything has locks. the dressers and closet door are worked by the same key that works you bay door. but your roommates cannot get in to your stuff. don't ask its kinda wierd. i will be picking you up next week from the bus station. i look foward to meeting you |

i would advise all parents not, i repeat, not to send their kids to atterbuty. lots of trouble and lieing and drugs. and students that try to follow the rules get labled snitches. then their lives r hell.
i can't reveal who i am or my child as we are in the middle of legal stuff with the school. they will cover up everything they can. there are videos on my space that have students talking about getting high, being high, and how easy it is to get drugs there. staff members have been fired for having sex with the students. some not all bring in drugs and alchola to sell. and discrimanation runs rampid. not all, but alot of the students are there because of criminal backgrounds. it is used as a dumping ground for po's and parents that are tired of their kids mooching. some of the staff are caring and good people, but most just turn their heads to what is happening there to keep thier jobs. |

I just dropped out of school and my mom is making me go to job crops. From what I have been reading i dont think im going to like it. She took me out of school to keep me away from drugs and fights. As i read all these post I see that this place may be worse than my high school. All i got to say is that if anyone tries to look down on me or think they are better than me, i wont be afraid to be kicked out of the program just for kicking someones ass. =]

Oh my. Well, let me begin by letting you know that I am currently a prospective student at the Atterbury Job Corp center. After reading all these comments, I'm almost afraid to even consider it! Is it REALLY that bad? I WANT and NEED to get myself on a different path, and I don't want to waste my time attending a "school" that I don't feel safe in and where the staff doesn't care. I'm not really a bad kid; I just don't have the motivation to finish school in Indy. I don't like to party and I hate drama. I'm really not sure I'd be cut out to live at Atterbury. Does anyone know of any other live-in campuses in Indiana or have any suggestions for me?

After my interview, how long do I have to wait be for I go? Also, I have some facial piercings and a tattoo on my wrist. Does that matter? And will we be aloud to smoke cigarettes in the dorm? I don't want to have to stand out in the cold and smoke...lol |

I went to atterbury job corps... it was horrible! All the guys are "thirsty" which means they want every girl and half the girls are lesbians which didnt bother me but it might others. Theres a lot of drugs out there and the students have sex in the bushes and the boys climb in the girls windows at night (window hopping) teh students aren"t worried about the school they only care about there social lives its ridiculous really it is! Every thursday new students come in and if theres a pretty girl shes gonna get swomped by the guys and the gay girls... Its really not a good place to go I wouldnt recommend ANYONE to go to atterbury its a JOKE! The food is horrible and the teachers and stuff are dumb i know a few of the teachers dont even have teaching licenses (weird right?) they just sit there and give you work but you cant ask for help because they probably dont know the answer... The TABE test is a joke i got over 600 on both you have to be dumb not to pass that! but honestly that place was horrible the people are rude and theres a lot of freaks out there I wouldnt recommend ANYONE to go to atterbury it was like hell on earth!!!
