I would love to be able to visit Hawaii. Maybe someday I'll be able to afford it, and bring my children there for vacation.

Hawaii is a wonderful place to grow up (as I did) with every possible opportunity for children not to mention the beauty and multi-cultural aspects to enjoy. Soon I hope to move back to the islands forever.

I would say by looking at the amount of people that come here to visit and then move here to live, a lot of people think that Hawaii is great. I do too. If you don't like it, then leave. Hawaii is not for everyone, thank goodness!

There are pros and cons to living in HI, as in every where in the world. Personally, had it been my choice I would not be living here, but I have to go where my husband get stationed. Having said that I am making the best of my time here and just enjoying the beaches and the cultural aspect. It's not a horrible place, its a modern place with the same issues that face any modern city in the US. You just can't cross the state line to get away. The weather is glorious, there's lots of places to eat and shop you just have to be careful(as in any big city) and take the proper precautions not be a crime victim. IK

I have visited Hawaii twice and due to Cupids Arrow, will be moving there in about 6 months. I am from Australia so this is a big move for me and my kids.
I don't find it a racist place at all. I do however, see there are colonial issues to be addressed as we have here in Australia..but enough of the politics.
It reminds me of Sydney in the old days, nice and friendly, relaxed, low crime and glorious weather. Sydney is becoming just like every other major city in the States, full of crime and too much unrest on our doorstep from the Middle East. I miss the old ways....so Hawaii, here I come!

It also depends on How much MONEY you have. Lets face it folks , it's extremely EXPENSIVE to live there, even if you live in a little Studio apt in Honolulu for $1000. per month !

Hawaii is horrible to live in. So many horrible people, especially the locals. SO much racism, very expensive even for horrible houses in horrible neighborhoods. The school systems are really honestly stupid. My little sister in elementary school complains that the children curse too much and talk dirty and are all dumb. Of course they're the local children. Anyone Hawaiian or local is horrible. Don't live here in Hawaii. Just visit the beautiful parts of it but don't live here unless you're willing to be miserable and scared of the people pretty much everyday.

I think Ugh might be a POPOLO , thats explains his attitude and remarks .

I love hawaii except it's so expensive. When you vist you are on vacatio so you have time to hang out relax and enjoy yourself, but when you live here you probally would have to work two jobs just to stay aflot.

Why don't you come back..we just lost about 9000 people a couple of months ago - they moved back to mainland. There's a spot for you. Thomas wrote: <quoted text>Yes it is expensive ! But remember you do not have the high heating costs in the winter as on the mainland , you can save money by not owning a car in Honolulu , get a bus pass , and you can save money by shopping for food where the locals shop avoiding tourist areas like Waikiki , I lived in Waikiki worked only one job and was still able to save money !

Hey - Kale in Oahu - Sharpen up your machete - We got fresh meat coming . Thomas, you best stay in waikiki, if you think that represents hawaii. Come out to the real hawaii, the westside, check into tent city, and join the real hidden hawaii. The one you don,t see in the advertisements.

About the Racism, is it racism towards white people, black people, or both? I'm black, and have been offered a very good job there. Which group is targeted more? Are people in clicks, like the natives socialize with the natives etc. If so what are the click’s dynamics? I’ve been there as a tourist multiple times, and from what I saw it was fine. However, I am getting the feeling that living there and visiting there are two completely different things. Also, what do some of the terms you guys use mean? What does Kaole mean? White person? Non native?(sp), popolo, lolo etc.
