All you lolos that voted for the rail better use it because you're going to pay for it in your property tax. Even people who live in Kahuku who will never use the rail will feel the added burden when the bill comes due.

Since this was a close vote over a "non-binding" item, I would argue that the public wants a compromise system, perhaps light rail or fixed-guideway transit.

Congratulations to President-elect Obama and his supporters. Though I supported and worked on the McCain campaign, I will get behind the Barack Obama and hope to see him (and our country) succeed through these trying times.

Congratulations again. Now it's time to move forward towards our future.

Despite all the polls that claimed that the public was in overwhelming support for the rail look how close the vote was. It wouldn't have taken much to tilt the scales the other way. In that regard, if you were against the rail but didn't bother to vote -- the onus is on you as much as those that swallowed mufi's rail propaganda!

now 47% of the people can say --- "I told you so"

but that is a small consolation for those that will continue to be stuck on an H1 that will become worse for decades to come

you paid for the propaganda --- as far as the margin of differemce --- they turned out the vote --- democracy doesn't always yield the best answer --- but it is far better than none at all

No surprise, first they said there's no vote. Now that there is and the majority does want it, they make other excuses.

"The group will reconvene and consider what's next," he said.

Slater, how about just respecting the vote and help make the project successful instead of constant sabotage? A major reason why costs go up is bitter people like you trying to constantly throw a wrench into the gears.

In time the whole thing will be covered in graffiti and then we will look even more ghetto to the vistors. Obviously Jean Grey has never been to parts of Kalihi or Waipahu where I grew up. Not that these places are ghettos, just lots of character. Hawaii does not lack character. Although they may look like ghettos to malahinis or some locals that have never been there.

Aargh. Such a slim margin. But you know that the Mufia will see this as a "directive" and the "voice of the people." We are stuck now. Is it too much to ask that the people who voted in favor be forced to ride it while the others of us with brains get to ride our cars?

The rail ends up nowhere that I need to go. I will not be able to use it. At all.

Exactly. The union strikes and cost over runs will be costly enough so no more lawsuits.

Slater is on record as saying that he would support the results of the vote......Lets see if that is true (Ha!) or he will invoke the typical republican double standard and go back on his word.

Unions can be an issue but don't take my words out of context, I'm referring to the anti-rail camps.

Agreed, if he spent his time and effort on making sure the project is done right, keeping an eye on corruption, etc, then he would be doing a real service for the people. If he continues with moves to oppose rail and throw up roadblocks, he's just disrespecting the vote.

Just curious, I have been following this for months, don't comment as just a tourist, what % of the people voted for it?

Daily Horoscope for January 7

Taurus

The current planetary influences tend to make everyone groan a bit. Life is not perfect and may be less pleasant than usual, but what can you do? Get real for one thing! That's the way it is and once you accept this, everything becomes much easier to handle. Be solid and dutiful - qualities for which the Bull is renowned - and you'll come out the other side with your halo polished. Focus on some undeveloped potential in your life and take the first steps towards realising it.
