Micronesians have such a small population, but it seems a disproportionate amount of Micronesian men seem to get arrested for rape.

1 I would think it's important to know the statistics on both arrests and convictions before you ask such a question. Otherwise, somebody might well say, "It SEEMS that way to you only because you are selectively perceiving the incidents you read about involving micronesian men to support a prejudice you already harbor toward them. The real statistics actually belie your assumption." Do you in fact know that the rate of arrests for rape is in fact higher among micronesian men? |

1 So I gather you DO know that these rates are higher. What are they exactly? How do they compare to the incidence of rape arrests among other ethnic groups? Where did you get these figures? |

1 raping and alcoholism/drug abuse just goes along with that lifestyle. someone told me a lot of em were invited to come to hawaii because the federal gov felt bad about destroying their islands with nuclear bomb tests in the 50s and 60s. Come on down to hawaii, we'll put you on welfare and food stamps and you can keep on living the way you have for 5,000 years!! |

1 Now on the "micronesians and rape" theory. Anyone with a T.V. that watches the six o'clock news can make a claim that in recent cases it appeared that micronesian men are commiting such acts at an alarming pace. Still this does not make them anymore of a suspect then any other race. It just seem's that way with media coverage. |

1 Right. This definitely makes sense, and it's what I suspected. The issue with Micronesians is likely more a perception than reality. And if it SEEMS a certain way, it might be a result of media coverage. Still, the original statement, was that the number of Micronesians arrested for rape seems high in light of their small population. So it seems we would need to know both the number of arrests and the total population and come up with a "rate." Then compare that rate to the rate of other ethnic groups. Then I guess there's the issue of sample size. I mean, if you had a rape arrest rate of 33 percent for Finnish Laplanders living here that would seem huge. But if there were only three Finnish Laplanders actually living here, my guess is the figure would be statistically meaningless. I'm not sure how this works concerning Micronesians; I suppose a trained sociologist would have to look at this. |

Also, why focus on arrests rather than convictions? |
||||
because all that's needed for a non-conviction is a victim's refusal to testify. |

1 Is it a fact, that Micronesians have the highest % of living in parks...? I DON'T THINK SO!! First of all, I think its important to clarify that MICRONESIA is a general term...because I can pin point something to POLYNESIANS, but does that mean, all POLYNESIANS? No, I don't think so, it could be Hawaiians, Samoans, Tongans, etc. It is the same with "micronesians"...a lil 411: Micronesia, could be the Guamanians, or Marshallese, or Chuukese, etc. Secondly, we all have kids that act they way they are, simply because they're just "kids"...so it is unfair for you to say that Micronesians have kids that run around like wild animals... Lastly, you claimed "you heard from someone"...who might that person be, a fellow Micronesian? Because, I can tell you that MAJORITY of the Micronesian population come to the US to seek medical treatments and educational purposes. Which is in their own free will, because they have the freedom to do so in US soil!! Just for your very own information, the way Micronesians lived for the past 5000 years was much serene than now with the introduction of Western Civilization...but atleast, they are not fighting to maintain their cultural practices or language, etc. Rape is rape, anyone with any ethnic background commits such a crime...and they should all be punished for it, but I hope WE all shouldn't make generalizations on everybody else within that ethnic background!! |

"but atleast, they are not fighting to maintain their cultural practices or language, etc." Isn't this your generalization on the Hawaiian race???? What's YOUR thinking behind this comment??? The difficult part in finding the root of sexual abuse is the simple fact that race is not a factor. People get things mixed up when using race as a deciding factor. This usually means your a racist. In my opinion, I feel race is a factor in poverty which affect's a person's education thus affecting his morals which trickles down to an individual's choice. It's not the other way around. |

1 As for HPD, forget them. They do not prevent, nor do they solve, crime. They have a horrible ranking nationally. I would slash their bloated salaries. |

1 Give it up alice. We know you are not an 18 year old student at UH from North Dakota, as you would have us believe in the Honolulu Advertiser Forum. You are also not a dancer stripper in a local club as you told the folks in the Jacksonville North Carolina Forum. No one looks lustfully at you. In fact no one looks at you. You are old, uattractive, short and dumpy. But you do have a vivid imagination. |

1 Ok, you want specifics? The Chuukese are the most violent, vile, no-education having, non-school attending, bettle nut chewing and spitting, disregarding of women's right, raping mofos around. Hmmm... let me see. The last three, high-profile, extremely violent rapes that made top story news in Hawaii within the last 18 months involved Micronesians, specifically Chuukese men/boys I give you: 1. The young girl down in Nanakuli that was raped by that disgusting-looking Chuukese man. I hope he gets the fat end of the bat in prison. 2. How's this gem? The particularly disturbing gang-rape of the young 11 year-old girl (I think the park near Kalakaua Housing) by the three Chuukese boys from Central Middle School (you like names? I get 'em!) 3. Oh, and last but not least, the middle-aged lady gang-raped by the three Chuukese filthy bastards right on the lawn of the State Capitol. Let's see... do we see a pattern here? Cannot help but start to wonder. Chuukese, some Marshallese, are the worst. They do not value education, kids NEVER go to school and that is fact, devalue women to the point where in some places in Chuuk, rape, beating of women is "not that big a deal." Just like education and school attendance in Chuuk is optional at best. *Bonus* Try going to Restaraunt Row $1 theaters on a weekend to watch a movie and count all the Micros hanging out all day long with their 15 kids, hopping from movie to movie, screaming and yelling throughout, and chewing beetle nut and spitting that sh!t out RIGHT IN THE THEATER. Somebody tame these animals... please. |
