Whats up with this? Just local people who are wanting to eat local foods. Good grief, busting folks for opihi, limu and fish - gone too far I tell you!

Am I missing something, or what? Since when does the ocean surrounding Maui belong to Maui County? And to think, I thought the ocean and its resources belong to everyone, Maui resident and otherwise. I would suggest then that Mayor Tavares and the Maui Council imposed a tax on all opihi, limu and fish removed from the Island. Hey, that's what our legislature or City Council would do on Oahu. Tax and spend.

I was at the Maui meeting and the Maui community honestly believes their natural resources are reserved for Maui residents. If they had their way, people from Oahu would not be able to camp on Maui, fish on Maui, surf on Maui (one woman claimed we take up her surf spots), etc. It was whacko. They are headed the way of Kauai, people who's short range vision obscures their ability to see the big picture in life. Shame.

Lets wait until the next Hurricane comes through and see how much building materials and help Maui and Kauai needs from Oahu.
How quickly they forget.

opihi and limu harvested and distributed between the islands (not just Maui) has been going on way before the Super Ferry!

Oh boy! Next the Maui folks will have all visitors visit the toilet so they can leave behind all the limu, opihi, and fish they ate while visiting Maui. Better yet, nobody should go visit Maui so the hotels and resorts can close the doors! Why go where you are not wanted?

Tavares isn't complaining about the millions of dollars the people of Oahu who use the Superferry have spent on Hotels, restaurants, shopping, and general tourism over the past summer. I saw the empty rooms and tables, they need us more than we need them.

Should the amount of marine resources transported via the Superferry route be within the legal amount, it would be more prudent to do so for economic and health reasons.

While you're at it close all the hotels and airports and let's get really down to it! Fence off the ocean and shut down Young Bros. to while you're at it!
Even the self appointed King of Hawaii-Akahi has been seen on the Superferry w/ his posse!
Have you lost your mind?

Oahu people have used up all their resources, so you come to the neighbor islands to take ours. This is what we feared from the superfairy, selfish, ignorant people who have destroyed their island and culture, trying to move on to the other islands. Yes, we're backwards and slow, we like to live Hawaiian style. We hate that Oahu has become just like the mainland, and don't want to be like you, floating in rubbish and sewage. Keep your American lifestyle where it belongs on the island that you destroyed. We don't want the two-legged invasive species.

Finally we get to the real reason Maui & Kauai did not want the Superferry. Not because of bumping into Whales. It was always "You no shoot my pig, you no take my feesh''You no belong here. Go back to your own islad"
Very very sad.

this is so silly. I'm all for protecting our natural resources, including our fish, opihi, limu and other sources of food from our ocean, but why go after the Superferry and not the airlines too? If the issue truly is about protecting resources, then it should be enforced fairly and consistently.

How about an executive order banning the transport of cash or credit cars from Oahu to Maui, think the mayor would go along with that?

4 pounds of Opihi a day, oh dear...

WOW!!!!! lmao, and if this isn't a clear indication of the true nature of the people of hawaii...gotta love the "false" aloha! We don't even know what the full story is...how 'bout the fact that it may not be Oahu locals, but Maui locals visiting family in Oahu and bringin' dem some home cooked meals...everyone is sooo quick to judge and persecute...
