Hey Sen. Hooser, don't broad-label ALL Dems as supporting Civil Unions/Gay Marriage. You are dead WRONG. And it's not a 'vocal minority'- religious or otherwise - that opposes this back-door HB 444... trust me.

Well all dems should.

You are the one who is wrong. If you don't like America, head over to the Philippines. America is a free country, nobody has to listen to you or your group of un-American, anti-equality losers.

So let's keep this simple, what's next, three or four in a marriage or "civil union" . The problem with government is social engineering to relive social ill's called a guilty consciences. And let's move on to the next great idea, forcing a normal family, that's right a normal family being forced into living next to this, or worse forced to rent because it's a accepted civil right!

This poll quoted in the article is bogus. If you read the way the questioning was made in it, it was worded in an attempt to make respondents answer favorably to civil unions. If they feel so strongly about it, why don't they put it before the voters? Better yet, why not just pigeonhole it and get down to some important economic recovery legislation?!

I applaud the efforts of the Family Equality Coalition. Too often, religion and family are used as cloaks for bigotry and discrimination.

Hooser is actually correct. It is a "vocal minority" that has consistently opposed civil rights for gay and lesbian couples. Survey after survey have documented this. This country is a Democracy not a Theocracy. Its good to see groups such as Family Equality Coalition support this issue. Time for equal rights for ALL.

The best survey of them all was the vote taken by the Hawaiian populace that overwhelmingly opposed homosexual marriages.

Polls taken subsequently in mens rooms in the Minneapolis airport don't hold much water.

Once again stupidity can’t be contained.
“Opponents, led by conservative Christian church groups, have lobbied against the bill, saying Hawaii voted against gay marriage in 1998 and that the issue should not be taken up again.”
And voters NEVER change their mind and society never changes. Well, that’s the church’s view I suppose. I’m sure they are still peeved that the Inquisition ended and the world was proven to be round too.
“Democrats still support civil unions, Hooser said, but he added that there are questions of ‘how many rights and benefits do you want to convey.’”
Yes, how much discrimination is enough?
You hear the bible-wrapped-bigots shouting that the people should vote. Well, guess what? The majority isn’t always right. It’s up to courts and elected officials to do what’s right versus what’s “popular.” That’s how government works. They are not activists, they are doing their jobs.
And finally to all the doom-sayers. Have any of those countries or states that allow gay marriage or civil unions fallen into the sea or does legislation like this offer benefits to some with NO downside to others?
(I would like to also comment to those - like "mama - who think civil rights will spawn polygamy, pedophile rights and bestial marriage, but I can’t figure out how to make them sound more ignorant than they already are.)

The only intolerant bigots are the politicians and the homosexual mafia who want THEIR way shoved down the throats of society while ignoring the "rights" of many other consenting adults who choose lifestyles that differ from normal.
This is a SPECIAL RIGHTS campaign waged by a loud and vocal lobbyist group representing one small subset of sexual deviants.
Any homosexual special rights law will automatically discriminate against polygamists, communal groups, bisexual threesomes, sterile incestuous couples and necrophiliacs where the deceased has signed away their rights to their body after their death.
These individuals are also all consenting adults who happened to be minorities in their style of sexuality and in the way they chose to live their love lives.
We cannot discriminate.
You want a rights bill Hooser? Pass a real rights bill. Not a special rights bill for your buddies or for your own guilt and self pity.
I've seen you post this drivel over and over. If you want to have a group marriage, marry your brother, or have some dead body up in the bedroom, then fight for those laws. You obviously want these things very bad because you constantly bring them up. So, get your group together and fight for them.

You mean like the recent "survey" done in California by the registered voters...that "minority"?

Just because YOU say it is so does NOT mean it is a fact.

Remember during the whole Prop 8 debate good "christians" claimed they were not against granting gay couples equal rights, they were only against applying the word marriage? Well here we have it, the good "christians" show their true colors again. Funny how good "christians" pick and choose how they apply the 9th Commandment.

Compare and contrast; one of my high school teacher drilled that one.
Compare and contrast: Slave rights and gay rights; the contrasts are easy, the comparisons are profound. Slave marriages were not legally honored either. They could not create and sign contracts and what is marriage mostly (legally speaking) but a huge contract with thousands of rights and responsibilities.
Navanethem Pillay, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights spoke there last year saying, "That just like apartheid laws that criminalized sexual relations between different races, laws against homosexuality are increasingly becoming recognized as anachronistic and inconsistent both with international law and with traditional values of dignity, inclusion, and respect for all".
Apartheid: A system of laws applied to one category of citizens in order to isolate them and keep them from having privileges and opportunities given to all others.
Stop gay apartheid.

And another thing...when the Christian groups and other religions start playing politics, then I would like them to support the system through the payment of taxes. You can't argue separation of church and state, not pay taxes and start trying to drive our laws at the same time...unless, of course, you are hypocritical, which would be a SIN.

if "conservative Christian church groups, have lobbied against the bill" then those churches should loose thier tax exempt status immediately. That will really help the economy and give the government much more revenue.

Nope, there's volcanic ash in the air obscuring the view.
Also, you spelled grease wrong, and yes it would help. but then, you knew that didn't you.
