Lessons in tyranny. When a government openly breaks their own long established laws (environmental laws) and then threatens any acts of civil disobedience with threats of ripping children from their fathers and mothers arms is called tyranny in my book. Webster’s Dictionary defines tyranny as “1 : oppressive power <every form of tyranny over the mind of man -- Thomas Jefferson>; especially : oppressive power exerted by government <the tyranny of a police state>.

It is time for you, Governor Lingle, to back off these incendiary and provocative attempts at intimidation against your own constituents. The Hawaii Supreme Court has sent you a message. It is time for you to uphold the environmental laws of Hawaii. It is time for you to show fairness and equity for ALL the people you represent and not only those who contribute to your campaign coffers. It is time for you to protect your ohana, not threaten us with bullying tactics and statements. It is time for you to protect our living islands, our sea life, our community, and our aloha spirit from the outside forces who are motivated by money, power and agenda’s that are alien to the spirit of Hawaii. Do what is right and just, get an EIS first.

If children are in danger CPS should get involved in monitoring those parents.

That says alot about Gov. Lingle's psychological makeup in that she is threatening to arrest the parents of children protesters while she has chosen the lifestyle not to have any children. Lingle should get together with her buddy, Sen Larry Craig of Idaho. So much for Republican family values.

The Superferry protests are part of the great American tradition of civil disobedience. Back in 1773 John Adams, a leader of the American Revolution organized colonialists to protest "taxation without representation" at the Boston Tea Party where citizens dressed as Indians boarded British ships to dump three hundred fourty two chests of tea into the water.

In 1849 Henry David Thoreau wrote in "Civil Disobedience" that all men recognize the right to refuse allegiance to, and to resist, the government, when its tyranny or its inefficiency are great and unendurable."

Give me a break, by Lingle threatening that anyone putting a child in harms way is not wrong . Think about it if you are not doing it then why worry over something intangible. but if you are doing something illegal then by all means how stupid are you?
l am amazed how frivilous these protesters seem to be. Hey if you don't like it then by all means protest according to how the law states and lf you win fine but if you lose .. well you voiced your opinion. and if in the future you should ever open up that closed mind then you may see where you could be wrong

Hooser and Chun Oakland are simply wrong! They are politicizing a law which has always existed. Parents cannot use their children to break the law or encourage them to break the law. They could not use or encourage their children to stand in the middle of a freeway or at the end of an airport runway to protest. Why should they block commercial maritime traffic? Hooser and Chun Oakland are irresponsible public servants if they advocate otherwise.

Riiiigghhht. The good old Boston tea party, where children pushed barrels of tea into Boston harbor. Whoops, don't really recall that part.

No I think the correct parallel in this case is insurgents in Iraq firing at American troops from behind crowds with women and children in them, hoping to provoke an overreaction and media spectacle. Come on, admit it. You Kauai protesters would have loved to see some crying, bleeding 13 year old kid (preferably local, but no matter) on prime time tv getting clubbed by a coast guard "nazi" wouldn't you? Your chests could swell with even more righteous indignation and your cause would be ascendant.

A standoff, in the ocean, against a paramilitary organization and the citizenry is no place for children. If you want to use children as props, so can the Lingle administration.

Get real Kauai. A few vocal transplants are trying to pull in the locals to support their cause. If you use your kids a pawns, just because you were a hippie in years past, then you should be punished.

Hawaii is made up of a diverse group of people. And we respect the rights others. If you don't like the way we do things in Hawaii, MOVE.

With all of the dictatoresque moves by Lingle, I have no other choice now but to become a full blown active protester.

The assertion that Lingle is bullying the people is ludicrous. The State is gently reminding protestors of the LAW. Read the story again. These protestors are so hypocritical. They demand that HSF and the State follow the "Law", yet they cry foul when they are held to accountability to the law. No one is taking away your right to protest. There are acceptable means of protest within the law. The protestors act like spoiled children when they don't get their way exactly how they want it. You people need to heed and respect the law just as you expect HSF and the State to do so. You can't have it both ways. Your arguments are shallow and frivolous.

A protester type named James Albertini spent a long time in a federal prison for jumping into Hilo harbor while trying to stop a U.S Navy ship from docking. The Coast Guard should cease being impotent and arrest all who attempt to interfere with ships in navigable waters.

thats a good thing, if you put your child in harms way YOU should be punished... the key word is, if YOU, put them in harms way.i will support this rulling. You can protest, but protest LEGALLY.....

Kauai Protestors: I support your right to protest but don't do it under the guise of "civil disobedience". What your so-called local Kauai people....the blond-haired ones we saw on tv...did was to act like holligans. Pounding on people's cars and flatening tires hurts real local people and doesn't do a thing for your protest. The rules/laws have been laid down...you break 'em you pay. As far as I am concerend...stay on your island...I'll stay on mine and spend my money here on O'ahu. Oh, and as far as crime goes....didn't you guys have the biggest pot bust in the islands? I guess you should keep your cash crop on your own island with your "local" farmers and not bring your stuff over to Honolulu.

what the protestors fail to realize is that the big stick will fall when those that choose to violate the law end up in federal court
I seriously doubt they will be performing these acts of civil disobedience to the federal judge at sentencing

I think I am out of touch with society. There's several homes, whose kids are at danger due to parental neglect on Kauai. There has been multiple complaints to CPS, with no results. One is a 15 year old run away with a 'druggie,' and nothing has been done. Another is a 10 year old stealing booze and drinking in public. If the department can't take care of the 'serious' cases at hand, why are they investigating the protestor's parents?
