Hope the best in your development. I see most of the groups from outside Samaoa who will try and stop your dream project. Stay close with the village chiefs and make sure they are inform and over inform with the vision and the benefits for both sides. When the village is behind you even the outside groups or politicians will not stand in the way.

I have a few questions. Is investemnt in your project considered off shore? How do you work out the US tax? Would you allow Samoa offshore bank to invest?

Also, Hawaii is hooking up with American Samoa with high speed online(cable) and they plan to extend the service to W.Samoa. I would love to live in Samoa and trade and a lot of retired americans would love to live there half of the year and work online for extra cash. That will be my plan when I retired in the next 30 years.

Your map is outdated. The Pacific nation changed its name to simply Samoa a while ago.

In Hawaii the Ritz Carlton dug up 1,000 burials for their resort. That type of thinking is very common among resorts. These resorts only motive is max profits and I would be shocked if those profits go to the villagers whose land and ecosystem is being sacrificed.

Much of the resorts in Hawaii and elsewhere even block off the beach for guests only.

Having lived just down the road from Sasina for a few years I must say that I feel sad that this very traditional part of Samoa is going to exploited by greedy foreign developers. Whatever James spouts off about the 'benefits' of such a project is secondary to the real reason for this undertaking: personal wealth. Listening to his comments, one would believe that he is doing this out of the goodness of his own heart for the benefit of the Samoan people. He might even have a piece of shoreline property in Colorado to sell as well.

The education and better life for your kids won't be found in ruining your land with resorts.

I know it can be so difficult to turn down when these companies come and flash cash and huge promises. The luxury resort model has failed Polynesians everywhere and its not worth it.

Their version of culture center is for you to dance like a trained monkey for shows on the hour. Educating your kids goes against making their bed and wiping the tourist #ss for them.

I hope Samoa does not turn into another Hawaii another Guam another Palau im not against progress but i against change that will cause negative affects in the long run for the indegenous peoples of the land.

The potential for huge profits are evident timeshare, condos, wharf and hotel. What percentage of the profits will be returned to the shareholders (The people of Samoa)? I ask that the leaders of Samoa tred carefully. Please way out the pros and cons, this will have a big affect on the culture and lifestyle of our people. My heart sinks of all the control this company will have on such a huge project...They must be getting a great deal on the land lease. What is it? Mirrors, Beads, Bibles ....

We have a solid relationhsip with the villages and high chiefs. We also work closely with the government to keep everyone on the same page.

It is negative thinking and negative comments such as yours that keep countries and people from realizing their potential.

What the article did not tell you is that we are also commited to building a school, medical clinic and a community development center on Savaii. Believe it or not, there are some people in this world who really want to help others and do things the right way.

Yes, a company must run on profits to exist; however, that does not mean that it can't have a conscience or a commitment to preserve the environment and ecology.

If you would take the time to travel to Savaii, and other Pacific Islands, you would find that people who live there are indiscriminatly cutting timber from the land without any regard to the impact on the environment. I can assure you that we will do a far better job than any group of individuals or company has ever done in the past when it comes to protecting the integrity of the land and the dignity of the people of Samoa.

We did not get this far without building up a certain amount of credibility and trust. That comes from walking the talk.

You are speaking with a total lack or disregard for the facts. Our company insisted on creating a profit sharing arrangement for the Village of Sasina, over and above the multiple millions of dollars that are being paid for the lease.

Regardless of what you think or say, we are committed to doing the right thing for Samoa and its people.

Jesse, I think you're better off staying away from this forum. Debating here is a lose-lose proposition. Nobody here is of any importance in any aspect of your business and you will come out looking like a schmuck arguing with a bunch of crabs that aren't happy until everyone is in the same missearable pot as they are.

However, although I've never been to Samoa, I'm skeptical that it will become one of the most sought after destinations in the South Pacific. Have you been to Tahiti or NZ? I'll take those hands down.

This is one of the biggest travesties to have hit the South Pacific, since the devastation of Hawaii... This development is completely unwarranted and unneeded and unwanted by the citizens of Western Samoa! Every effort by every world ecological group should be put forth to stop this irresponsible development.

To all Pacific Islander's--if you let this happen again, don't blame the Hauoli's--blame yourselves for your complicitness and you collution!

I am very excited about this news. I spent many years as a young girl in Samoa, and am now in the hospitality management in Hawaii.
I would love to be able to live and work in Samoa as an adult. Mr. James, may I contact you?
