This may be off topic, but, what is it with the animals on Kauai? And I don't mean the 4 legged kind. Years ago the "locals" smashed vacationers car windows demonstrating their anger of the SuperFerry. Then months ago, seals were being shot with bow & arrows. Now, horses? Nobody with a soul can shot a horse. Whomever is killing seals and horses better check their ancestoral linage, because they ain't got no Hawai'ian in 'em.

Ref Roxie Berlin's ltr "Turn over school to the homeless." Now here's a lady that's thinking outside the box. The only stipulations I would suggest is that this temporary housing be used for those WORKING folks, with children, who don't make enough to pay the high rents on Oahu and related expenses. Then the priority would be WORKING folks with no children. Good thought process Roxie.

Ref Wayne Y. Yoshioka's ltr "Rail system plan touts benefits." Here we go again. Wayne, even the cities own experts stated that this system will do little, if anything, to reduce traffic congestion in the West corridor. Then the EIS said it would account for a 22% reduction in vehicular traffic. WHICH IS IT, Wayne? Then the Mayor spent $2.6 MILLION dollara advertising rail through the media. The city said this was mandated by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). Interestingly, the FTA said it has no such policy mandating public education about rail projects. WHICH IS IT, Wayne? Inquiring minds want to know.

Mufi's mouthpiece, Wayne Yoshioka, wants us to believe his rail propaganda. Remember folks, Mufi PLUNDERED and removed over 900 million dollars of your money from the City Treasury in just the past year. Now, because that money was removed to pay the greedy Unions, the contractors, engineers, architects, YOU are stuck with having to pay higher taxes on other stuff, like your property, vehicles, etc. The empty suit, Union working stiff stage prop, Mufi, now wants to be your Governor. Tyranny can be defeated, if we all pitch in and DO NOT VOTE DEMOCRAT. Republicans are maligned, but they ain't gonna raise your taxes (if they can). You can guarantee that Democrats will and have.

Way to go Wayne. "No additional tax increases will be necessary." Sure, because you already got an increase in the General Excise Tax that might sound small but will take THOUSANDS of dollars out of the pockets of Oahu residents - including the majority who will never ride the rail. That's like the thief who cleans out your home and then comforts you by saying: "don't worry, be happy, I'm not going to take any more." Notice how Wayne says that a rail system will be cheaper to "operate and maintain" than a bus system, but he doesn't say it will be cheaper to BUILD!!! Hey Wayne, have a little self-respect and apply your talent for deception to something other than ripping off the taxpayers.

I don't know what they got in 'em, but it sure is in the abnormal department. What possible satisfaction could a being get out of killing another animal for the sheer joy of it? Only one word describes a person like that: SICK!

Sorry, Wayne, I don't buy the rail as environment or economically sound. The money is not there! The use of Wailupe Valley School for the homeless is a sound idea. It would be an opportunity to establish guidelines for shared responsibilities in up keep. which should be present in all public housing situations.

John McCain joins Obama and some of Congress in thumbing their nose at the US Constitution, Civil Rights, U.S. & International laws, when he states no to an investigation and prosecution to torture practices under the Bush/Cheney administration. It is not their decision. I recall seeing so called local haoles bashing the SuperFerry too. Just because you local dose not mean you have Hawaiian in you, but I do agree that whoever's doing this absolutely has no soul.

Facing an estimated $786 million state deficit, Lingle wants to furlough state workers for three days a month over the next two years, saving the state $30 million a month. The furloughs will cost workers "15 percent" of their salaries. Did Rob Shikina not take basic math in school or is he attempting to escalate the cost to the workers for the benefit of the unions position or is he just lazy and took some unions officials number as gospel when he could have easily research the numbers in the Star Bulletin as originally published. It is very discerning when publications take on hot button controversial items and then attempt sway the public with shuttle mistruths. It is bad enough that Mufi is grandstanding on the public workers backs to get additional media attention for his political enhancement but it is even worse for the media to drive attention to his self serving, non involvement with the state union negotiations.

Lingle's lack of leadership allowed Muufi to grab the mantle. Yes, he is a shibai. But he just tried to fill a vacuum.

Maybe my first post was too verbose. Let me clear it up. Nobody with a soul can shoot a horse in the face. Hawaiian, haoles, Samoan, Tongan, Portege, Asian. A horse is a defenseless, majestic animal. Catching these "people" will get 6 months in jail, if that. They'll pump iron, live at taxpayer's expense, and be right out on the street again, smashing tourist's windows for chump change. And the Island's wonder why the visitor numbers are down 35%?

I am not convince on Mr Wayne Yoshioka statement that there will be no tax increase for the rail and reduce traffic. I am going to save his letter on my file and bring it out when that increase happens.

Clearly the support of rail has changed a lot of people's mind due to downturn in the economy, so Mr. Yoshioka needs to dream up more propaganda about the benefits of rail. I guess he thinks locals are gullible.
