We need an alternative to flying. I'm confident that the HSF has met and exceeded all issues that I have had regarding their operation in Hawaii. There are always downsides to any business venture but in this case, the upside outweighs the paranoic "what if" syndrome. LET IT SAIL!!!

The State is wasting its money supporting Lehman's private company that is seeking to win a profitable contract to build 55 navy vessels modelled on the Hawaii Superferry.
HSF will soon fail financially, no matter what Judge Cardoza does. However this Deleware-based superferry corporation will have achieved its goal of training workers and building a Mobile (Alabama) shipyard ready for the Navy contract.

All arguments and OPINIONS are moot regarding whether or not HSf should be in Hawaii. The LAWS and VIOLATION OF THE LAWS is saying a whole lot about the state and how much they control the judges' decisions to subvert the laws. Furthermore, upholding the laws should not be decided on public OPINION. If so, then why bother having them?

Why reward another devious bunch of manipulators who won't be honest and can't be bothered to follow the proper laws and procedures, but instead use their connections to grease the ways for them to make huge profits? Why reward a governor who is willing to use the military to shut down protests by the citizenry and arrest people for trying to protect the sovereignty of their island?

Why not let the people decide?? You afraid that the outcome not going to be in your favor...It's called democracy...let "WE The people" decide, no "WE the judges"

Simply, letting Superferry operate without a prior EA/EIS is letting an unproven suitor continue to have risky, unprotected sex while an AIDS test is available and fully warranted. And this "pregnancy with syphyils and other diseases can be simply avoided. Do the EA/EIS first or no Superferry at all, period.

If you are so sure then the Superferry should have no problem getting through the EIS process.
My guess is that they went through great pains to avoid an EIS because they knew it would kill the project.

If you are going to let the people decide you will have to give each island have an equal vote. Would you be willing to accept the results of a vote if the majority of the voters on Kauai or Maui said NO?

After all it is these people who will be impacted the most.

This is a reminder of the unlawful overthrow of Hawaii nei. I realize that selfishly outer island residant's would like another option to travel but the FACT of the matter is that the COST Kauai will have to pay for this "convinience" is much to HIGH!!! Many of us are willing to do whatever it take's to PROTECT our precious aina! NO FERRY AT ALL!!! IMUA KANAKA O KA AINA!!!

No EIS/ No SuperFerry.
Once an EIS is done, we'll see the major impacts it will have on this precious island.

In this wonderful country called the USA, private interest and personal gain always win over the environment. Hello, it's the blueprint for capitalism. It takes either a huge public outcry (as is now beginning regarding Iraq) or a disaster to arouse people as to all that's at stake, and what's really going on. The Superferry: classic case of corrupt government and corporate greed banking on OUR blindness, as they yank the last morsels of Paradise from under our feet. Is the new and fabulous Disneyland Resort on the West Side a good thing, too? You go, O'ahu! You go, Condaliza Lingle! "More jobs." Funny, because Hawai'i already has the lowest unemployment rate in the US. Yeah, we'll get the Ferry and much much more.(MUCH MUCH MORE.) Just lie down and let them roll right over you, while you actually believe it's something good for you. Better to stand strong with Kaua'i and the environment while there's something left to defend.

Those we elect are suppose to abide by the laws that are in place to protect the aina and our dwindling natural resources. In doing this, they serve the community.

Linda, so who do you serve?????$$$$

We used to go between islands on little freighters--it was cheap and fun, and slow enough so whales could get out of the way. Many places in the world have pleasant ferry service---but when you talk about bringing cars and trucks and motorcycles from Oahu to our unpaved paradises---that will have a huge impacdt on the environment, and it will never be allowed. Of course they do not want an envirnmental assessment---once everyone sees what it will do, they will all turn against it. Sad that this will kill the idea of a ferry at all. In the Society Islands you can hop on the interisland ferry and go up the island chain and hop off when you want to...it is terrific, and everyone does it, packing food and clothes and a cooler. Same in the Greek islands where it is the way tourists get around too....and they are farther apart than our islands.

The fact of the matter is that this is no alternative to flying! The way it is set up now, the price is too high to travel with your car both ways to be of any benefit -- plus, when leaving from Kauai, you have to spend the night on Oahu. I don't know too many people who can afford to travel this way unless they plan to be on Oahu or Maui for a few days anyway.

Kauai does not have the infrastructure to handle even more traffic. We have one little road aroud the whole island!!! In addition, this is yet another example of bypassing our interests. I am still waiting for an EIS on the cruise ship...

As usual great for Oahu--sucks for Kauai.

Hey--I want an alternative, too. Let's say I want to go to Maui...Jeez! you see the price of that?

If it's so good for Hawaii why the end-run around the law? Makes me suspicious. Look at the board of directors...these guys have an AGENDA, and it ain't a nice little boat ride with your pickup on it!

Yeah, let's have an alternative. This isn't it.
