The plane's alarm clock malfuntioned! Everything else was working on the plane, including the autopilot. Is this a regular sleep session everyday?

That's unfortunate, because the price you pay for your ticket will not determine what plane they use for that flight that day, nor which pilots fly it. I know you're making a remark about different airlines, but even then it won't make much of a difference. Different aircraft are optimized for different flight lengths, altitudes, etc. The airlines know this and, within their budget, schedule the right plane for the right trip when possible. While your ticket price is partly a reflection of the decisions made at such a macro level, choosing to fly with a more expensive airline will by no means guarantee a different aircraft or better pilots. |

I dreamed that this would happen . . .

The pilots at all regional airlines could be considered lacking experience when compared to the majors. So anytime you fly anywhere in the US you might want to keep that in mind. However they are sufficiently experienced this could happen on any airline. While Mesa is pretty well bottom of the barrell as far as the work rules are concerned, the pay is not near minimum wage. Look at airlinepilotcentral.com and compare Mesa's wages with any other regional such as Skywest, Republic, Trans states, PSA, ASA. As you will find the wages of the company are similar, and in some cases better than the others. Now, I'm not saying that falling asleep is acceptable, just that it could happen on a Aloha or Hawaiin flight as well. You are equally as safe on any flight that you choose.

train conductors have to press a button once every minute or so or the train stops...why shouldn't an alarm go off if a pilot doesn't press a button every minute, or even 5.

I don't believe that two pilots fell asleep at the same time.

Do a little check into mesa airlines. Pilots are overworked on a daily basis. Union officials do little or nothing to protect or help these pilots. What is the FAA doing to aleviate the problem? Sad story.

Two pilots fall asleep on a 45 minute flight? The work load on such a short flight would only leave a few minutes of straight and level flight. Hardly enough time to slumber off because of being tired. The locked cockpit policys in place these days make me wonder if some sort of Mile High club hi-jinx wasn't the actual reason for the over shoot.

when the airline can't cover it's flying schedule, pilots get **** schedules, hi speeds mixed with day trips, junior manning, hi speeds, trip extensions. Min 8 hrs rest, ha!, that includes pax deplanement, securing the aircraft, long walk to the hotel shuttle, trip to the hotel, check in, and getting ready for tommorrow. Oh, and if you happen to have a family, a call home. Don't make me laugh, you might get 5-6 hrs of sleep. THAT'S WHY PILOTS FALL ASLEEP STUPID. The traveling public gets what they deserve. Until legislators change the rules, airlines will take advantage of the rules and create scheds that wack out the pilots. Have I fallen asleeep while flying? Figure it out for yourself
