The Advertiser's not endorsing Obama is very odd, indeed. There is probably much more than meets the eye here. Lots of weird things have been going on at the Advertiser recently. This is another. Hopefully the Star-Bulletin's intrepid reporters or one of the many laid-off Advertiser employees will shed some light on this most recent bizarre behavior by the Advertiser's top management.

They did the right thing, niether candidate is worthy of an endorsment...period.

I to believe it is the responsibility of any major newspaper to print the facts about both sides. However within the last 40 years the press has become an unwilling participant based on who calls the shots, not just in the way we choose our candidates but also within our justice system as well. Many probably no longer use the term Yellow journalism but from how these media sources use their power to support one over the other produces nothing but Tainted journalism. For me "Just the facts" and I'll choose who best represents me. I do not agree that endorsements don't play a significant role in ones choice. It is said a presidents success is best measured by the quality of people who chooses to support and advise him. Clearly it has been proven President Bush chose the wrong ones to listen too. So yes what is the credibility of Rumsfeld, Rove, Cheney and Libby worth; or those who follow the line on their beliefs. To me I thought Rove's endorsement of Sarah Palin was one of the funniest things I ever saw. I'm sure McCain wished he could have publicly denounced Bush's and Cheney's. Yes, and no-one could forget the associations of good Ole Rev. Wright and Ayers. If you look at star power, well they are doing nothing more than what we the common person does and that is support the candidate of our choice. The difference is they can afford to exploit it. So tomorrow it will all be over and I commend the advertiser for not choosing to be like other media giants such as, Wall Street Journal, LA times, Washington Post, Boston Globe, or any of the Major Television Networks. Who knows maybe by the next election the big guys can learn from the smaller guys

Staffing constraints prevented them from making an endorsement? Yeah, right. What was the real reason? Why couldn't they bring themselves to endorse someone born in Hawaii? Perhaps too much pressure from local Republican advertisers? What a paper!

Aloha: At least the paper didn't vote for four more years of Bush, who has done so much to destroy our Constitution, our country, and the world. We can be thankful for that. Keith Haugen Nu`uanu

Two liars running for president. I wouldn't endorse either one. One acts like a black 3rd grader, and the other one needs to retire. Either one will be a one term president because they both stink. People are so gullible.

Funny how you staunch Obama supporters think anyone not in your camp is a hard core far right wing fundamentalist Christian Bush supporter or something. Try middle of the road yourself sometime, it is refreshing.

Actually folks....the truth is that the Publisher Lee Webber wouldn't let the editorial board endorse Obama because he has close ties to the military and McCain being a war hero and all...and the fact Webber is a big time Republican. Of course it doesn't hurt that the editor Platte is a born again christian and would never likely support pro-choice. hmmmm.....we were just too busy to give our opinion...do they really think their readers are that stupid?? Maybe they will be so short handed they won't be able to tell us who won....hahahaha

"Advertiser Opts Not To Endorse Any Candidate For President" This shouldn't be news. Its should be the standard for journaism! Mainstream media 's supposed to report unbiased facts so readers can form their own conclusions. LA Times is going kaput because of their liberal, biased journalism. Time for Hawaii's papers to wise up.

That's what they CHOSE to do. The real shame and crime in this country is that people (whoever they are) cannot feel free to make their own best decisions without the immediate judgment, condemnation and personal attacks of those who have nothing better to do in their meaningless lives but to tell everybody else in the world what to think and how to live their lives. "That's the disease of the mass media, and what newspaper editorializing has become -- this abuse of opinion without bothering to learn any facts. Probably the greatest handicap of Hawaii culture and indoctrination is this terrible demand for conformity to what the political/union bosses and their surrogates, the teachers, think the rest of society must do to preserve their status at the top of society -- even at the expense of everything else in society. Thus Hawaii has become a hopeless quagmire of special interests that only Democrats and trial lawyers would love. So actually, no endorsement is a huge improvement from an ill-conceived one.

SO WHAT??? No endorsement - BIG DEAL! Who ever relies on endorsements to help them make a decision at the polls, needs to stop being a "follower" and vote for which ever candidate that you feel would serve to make life better for "YOU". I could care less about which candidate is being endorsed by any special interest group, union, or newspaper, for that matter. Endorsements are another source that fuels political corruption in governement and should be abolished! Vote - YES on Con Con!! That's my endorsement!! get real!
