All the airlines should Boycott Hilo airport and see how fast they change their minds. Fire everyone of the brain dead Government officials who came up with this idea, another classic example of the incompetent, over paid bureaucrats infesting the system. Wake up people! Actually, Aloha killed themselves, and the loss of the Japanese market due to the refusal of GMO Papaya took them over the edge.

Aloha had a lot of cargo capacity, and it was charging ridiculously low rates to ship Papaya from the Big Island to wherever they transhipped to. The Japanese market for GMO Papaya dried up, and Aloha was left to fend for itself.

Aloha was much more involved with Air Cargo than most people think.

They made the mistake of subsidizing air transport rates for Papaya, at rates much lower than they could have charged, while they took benefits away from the workers and destroyed morale.

I don't have any reason to believe that the Aloha employee that discussed this with us wasn't telling the truth.

So that's why the only part of the Airline that survived was the Cargo business? I'm starting to realize why you voted for my administration.

No, this is TYPICAL of the moronic state bureaucracy. They have no conception of what is going on un the real world.
PS When Hawaiian and Mokulele say "they are studying the situation" that means they are setting up their new fares schedules as they speak.

Yep, it was the only asset that was valuable enough for the trustee to sell. Take note that the management was let go, and a new owner that knew how to make money latched on to the opportunity of a fully equipped fleet of Cargo jets, complete with infrastructure, support, and in some cases labor. All laid out for them to purchase at a good price. Then, they can make all new rules, and do whatever they want, while the mistakes of the previous company are forgetten in the sands of time.

Since I don't know what "Administration" you represent, I'll just say that a Trillion dollar war of agression based on lies, torture and the Removal of Habeus Corpus were enough for me to get that rotting corpse of the Bush Administration out of office.

Not that anything has changed so far...

The reason that you see a fantastically over built "General Lyman Field" in Hilo is a hold over from the plantation days. Just like the seven swimming pools and the covered tennis stadium and hundreds of acres of mowed parks. Very pretty , but eventually some one has to pay for it, and , honey , the sugar plantations shut down a few years ago. Hilo folks are going to have to face reality someday. It will not be a pretty denouement.

Well said, but didn't Lingle just participate is the ground braking ceremony for a muli-million dollar upgrade to the National Guard post there?

The Military gets free reign, while the Holdroom rate in the Hilo Airport jumps several hundred percent.

Nobody is asking the real question, and that is what exactly does the increase pay for in terms of the DOT and the Hilo airport. It almost sounds like a direct tax that isn't fully apportioned.
The only way to find out is by direct inquiry, and that certainly isn't going to happen here.

If we get the Same Healthcare as the French do I'll be happy. You hear that Joe, or is your hearing aid turned off?

Hilo International's lounge fees are cut
by Bret Yager

Published: Thursday, July 16, 2009 10:32 AM HST
The Hawaii Department of Transportation has backed away from a dramatic increase in waiting lounge fees at Hilo International Airport following outcry from the airlines.

The fee charged to interisland carriers shot up to $18.43 per outbound passenger on July 1 -- up from $3.91.

But the increase now has been cut almost as dramatically as it increased -- down to $4.04, according to Brian Sekiguchi, the DOT's deputy director of airports.

Socialism is whats my administration is all about. It is only fair that someone should pay for your health care.

Daily Horoscope for November 23

Gemini

You may have to take a trip at a moment's notice, so don't let the unexpected jangle your nerves. Look at the day as an adventure, and welcome unexpected twists and turns. The Twins have been far too predictable lately and could use a change of pace, anyway. Those of you who end up staying planted in terra firma could find yourself on a journey of the mind, as philosophical debate turns into an intellectual adventure!
