Mary or whatever your real name is: What crawled up your butt and died? Let me guess, you're one of those people who loves the saying, "Once you go "Black" (as in Bill), you never go back". Just so you don't forget. Her name is Dr. Lori DeYoung. Not DeLong. If you're going to have such an attitude, the least you can do is spell her name correctly. Otherwise, you come across as a real moron. Now that we've gotten all the pleasantries out of the way let's get down to brass tax: What has Lori done? Perhaps your first job should be to telephone the people of Gray's Siding to ask them about the "siding jobby" she did for them. For years, these same people attempted to get your good ole' boy Bill to do something and he did absolutely NOTHING except side with big business. Wow, what a champ he is. Lori started the ball rolling to help those people and she was not even elected to the office. Moving on...Lori implemented the free Vermilion County prescription discount card so people have been able to save nearly 20,000.00 since November at no cost to the county. She has also written over a MILLION DOLLARS in grants for Vermilion County in child welfare, mental health, and juvenile justice. In 1995 she started, without the help of anyone, a not-for-profit Family Education and Support Services which helps parents with disabilities and others in need of counseling services and parenting classes in Vermilion County. While on the Oakwood School Board in 1993 she was able to get all day kindergarten implemented. Now, Mary, you have a bit of insight into the things Dr. Lori DeYoung has done and this isn't everything. Since you're obviously so enamored of a man who has done nothing for the citizens of Vermilion County except for his signing off of grants for a few bridges I guess you'll be the first to cast your vote for more of the same old crap different day. If, however, you can pull your head out, you'll find that our district DESERVES someone who will fight for us without throwing a temper tantrum. Are we better off now than we were 22 years ago? The answer to that would be "NO"!

To RazingKane:
Very well written response to the comments made about Dr. DeYoung. It IS about time that we have someone who is willing and able to actually listen to the concerns of the constituents and then do something about it! Dr. DeYoung has my support!

Mary,
Actually I'm not mad. I'm disappointed that you would come out and say you couldn't find any good points about Lori or that she doesn't stand a chance. If you couldn't find any good points about her, then you must not have done any research. Additionally, she absolutely stands a chance against Bill. There are many people in the 104th District who desire a change and want someone who will listen to their concerns and actively seek solutions. Lori is hardworking, honest, dedicated, caring, and concerned. Not only will I vote for my friend, but I will vote for a candidate I truly believe in. It matters not to me whether that candidate be Democrat or Republican. The best person for the job gets my vote and the best person for the 104th District is Lori DeYoung. I don't need to throw a temper tantrum to express my viewpoint. You asked the question of what Lori had done. I answered your question. End of discussion. Period.

Well, Lori has my vote and Mary you have not yet stated what Bill Black has done or why you think he deserves our vote, so to me that means that he has done nothing or you don't know.

This article, posted on samadamsalliance.org , is just one example of the type of bad behavior we can't afford to have in a person who is supposed to represent his district. At the very least he should have read it. At the very most he should not have voted in favor of something he hadn't even read!!

Lawmaker on the Illinois Budget: "I don't know what the hell's in it"
Categories: The Pork-Barrel Files

For months now, the Illinois General Assembly and Governor Rod Blagojevich have been feuding over the state’s budget. Today, more than a month after the deadline to approve the budget passed, the House of Representatives finally voted for a bill.

The massive 1,395 page budget raises state spending by more than $2 billion in a time when Illinois is suffering a dire financial situation. According to the Chicago Tribune, included in this $2 billion jump in spending is a number of “pork barrel projects around legislative districts in time to make lawmakers’ re-election brochures.”

So just how much pork barrel spending was there? Who knows? According to Representative Bill Black of Danville,“I don’t know what the hell’s in it.”

Why doesn’t he (or pretty much any other legislator) know? Because they were handed a copy of the bill just this morning! Yet somehow, ninety representatives felt comfortable enough with a budget they almost assuredly hadn’t read to vote in favor of it! Only nine had the courage to vote no.

Though the House passed the budget, its implementation is far from assured. The Senate is expected to pass it, but Governor Blagojevich has indicated he might veto. But don’t give Blagojevich any plaudits for threatening veto. His objections? Amazingly, he thinks there’s not enough spending!

Something is truly rotten in the state of Illinois.

Although we do not know how Bill Black voted, it's scary that he didn't KNOW what was in the budget! The budget process last year went on for MONTHS so how could he not know "what the hell's in it"? As a representative of the people he should make it a point to know! I would be interested in knowing what his vote was. Given that 9 voted "no" and there are 51 Republicans in the Illinois House there is clearly a bi-partisan problem in the Illinois Government.

Hey Jack...Why don't you and Mary get together and come up with a list of all the things that Black has done that required more than him signing a piece of paper! And one more time, for the record, her name is Dr. Lori DeYoung!
