Then let's fix it. Let's raise taxes for new residents and grandfather residents who've been here 10 years to the current rates. That'll in effect raise a fiscal wall, making it unaffordable for the philly and chester crap to move here and continue to live here.

First we stop the flood with higher taxes. We use the extra revenue for programs to help the people already here, figuratively pumping out the sludge already here.

Better yet......maybe we should grandfather the tax rates on the OWNER OCCUPIED homes. I bought my house nearly 3 years ago. Why should I be punished as a resident of the boro when I keep my yard clean and my weeds trimmed and my kids are in EVERY night by 10pm? I'm trying to have a positive impact on the neighborhood by getting involved in the community even though I'm stuck with a house on a street where kids play all night (unsupervised in the street). The people in this article actually "lived" with a section 8 renter on this particular street until they and the actual tenant moved out and trashed the house, even stealing the copper piping that was inside the house. Maybe if the landlords had to pay more out in taxes they would scrutinize their tenants a bit more and actually find people who wanted to contribute to their community in a positive way instead of effectively "strip mining" it for all that they can get. This might even prompt landlords to offer rent to own options to tenants who would take better care of the properties they are in at the prospect of a better future. Collingdale needs to offer incentives so that there are more owner occupied properties and more pride will be taken in the community.

Raise taxes? how is that when 80% of this town is on welfare or section8 these residents do not know what work is. They do not even pay taxes, read the crime reports, these residents do not even work, they are on welfare and section8 raising taxes do not work, working class people who pay taxes, our tax money go to these people to sit on assistance.

If you raise taxes it makes it less attractive for landlords to rent to the section 8 people because they will turn less of a profit. The cost of renting will become more expensive. Unfortunately the transition into owner occupied homes will not happen overnight. Collingdale has a long road ahead!

I agree! Raise the taxes on new comers. It is sad what is happening to Collingdale. I am embarrassed to say I live in "Collingdale." Let's clean up the properties, start "heavy" fines and RAISE THOSE TAXES to the Section 8 Landlord scums!!!!

If your elected officials, and their friends & relatives that they employ with borough jobs would ACTUALLY DO THE JOBS then things would be OK. L & I, Code Inspecter, Health Inspecter, etc... Fine the landlords AND the tenants for long grass, trash not put in cans, vehicles not registered, or inspected, kids out after curfew, etc... But the lazy politicians, and their friends & relations would have to get off their lazy asses, and DO THEIR JOBS for this to happen.
Of course you could always form a ski mask wearing, heavily armed, anonnymous "Death Squad", and go out in the night to kill all the problem people. Just don't get caught.
