i livewd in collingdale for 10 years and it used to have basketball courts to keep kids out of trouble but now collingdale took all courts down for no reason. I don't understand and want courts back up. I am seeing kids that all they cared was about was sports but since the change i see them same kids selling drugs and getting caught wwith police and up to no good. Collingdale needs to put courts back up and i need help so if u can help please do.

They know it will leave the young blacks with little to do. There are none in East lansdonwe either. They took them down all around the area when it began to turn black. It's the borough, check your taxes! I bet they are still rising, and the old board is still ripping off the (new) black community while hollering about the so- called crime rate. Been there, they do that. My brother was telling me about them taking down the basketball hoops all over town, I thought it was just East Lansdowne. I know exactly what you are saying, check to see when the borough is having their next meeting, and then check again, they will reschedule without warning, so the blacks cannot come, and they will RAISE those taxes While cutting services. CAn YOU Say RASCISM? Do not get discouraged though, because i still believe, YES WE CAN ! THIS IS OUR TOWN TOO

Collingdale still has some pretty low taxes compared to the rest of the County. The courts were taken down due to the amount of foul language, fights between neighboring towns, and constant vandalism to the basketball court area. It was becoming an everday thing to see spray paint on the court. The complaints to the council justified their action. Taking down the courts was not a racial statement. It does affect the white population as well who used to enjoy the basketball courts. I can no longer go down there for a game with my friends or have a tournament like we used to as we have done since we were children. Black people were not the only ones who ruined the ball court. As for the council, if you check your Boro calender or call the Boro secretary you can find out when the next council meeting is and voice your opinion. They will not change the meeting. Collingdale is a good town and needs everyone support instead of criticism.

First of all you talk about when you were a kid, that's when it was a white area. So I am sure they were up for you. As far as foul language goes, there is no way in the world you are going to tell me, you and yours were talking all peaches and cream. As far as borough meetings go, I did in fact go to them when i lived in the area, and they DID change the dates when people of color came to voice their complaints. YOU SAY it is justified, but you do not live there anymore. YOU also say there is or was, vandalism, spray paint, fights and foul language, sounds to me like you are in fact signifying. You sound like an undercover rascist supporter. The new kids had to lose the one thing that may have kept them out of trouble. I also remember when they did the same thing in EAST LANSDOWNE, JUst because you co-sign the crap does not make it right to take away something that the residents had to look forward to. YOU spoke of going down there because you moved, they live there, YOU DO NOT< THEY have a right. UNDERCOVER, hidden agenda, cannot fool me, I bet you have courts where you live. But you feel righeous in saying they can't, oh yes! truly undercover,

How is a basketball court, or any other recreational sport, going to stop kids from getting into mystrife. As they say you can only play something so long, weather it is basketball, football, video game, it gets old and remember, everyone blames the teens/kids for vandalism, the older generation does it as well, any race, white, black, any race

Its funny how you highlighted my comment but removed the part where I stated "Black people are not the only ones who ruined the ball court" Talk about an undercover racist. As for when I was a kid, no one spoke in the filth then that is spoken today. Do you feel someone who does not wish to hear that mess be forced to listen to it while their child is playing soccer, baseball, or football. You also speak as though I have no intrest in the town since I do not live there anymore. You are wrong and have no idea what I take part in supporting my hometown. My family still lives there with a large amount of my friends. You do not know me but are too quick to judge. I wish you the best and encourage you to address the council at a meeting with your issue. To make it easy so they do not change the meeting in fear of you, check the paper for the date and time and show up unannounced to voice you opinion. Good luck.

You digress, this is not about you. This is about the youth who need a place to exhaust their energy. As far as the way they talk, the youth of today do not in fact talk like the youth of yesteryear, to that i do agree. However, youth EVERYWHERE talk in a manner that is shocking. If you believe that only exists there you are delusional. Taking away their means of releasing stored up energy is counter productive, especially when it leads to more problems than it solves. As far as the council being afraid of me, Keep it real, I will leave you there. In my opinion, you are still undercover, and do not have a clue as to how blacks have been disenfranchised when it comes to community resources.

To the original poster, the youth have a right to have a place of recreation. IF you look further, I have a feeling you will find this is becoming county wide. As I first stated, I thought that was only in East Lansdowne. Isn't it funny that it's only the basketball courts? One poster spoke of soccer, as though this game was much more social and calm for the neighborhood. If you get an image of the soccer games portrayed on television, I know the image of violence, missing teeth and fighting is the first thought that comes to mind, and yet this sport is suppose to be O.K.? To end, something definitely smells fishy, if I were you, I'd do a little more research on the subject,I bet you'll be surprised just like I was. Keep your head up, I do believe you're on to something.

I find this amazing how grown adults can sit online all day and dwell over basketball court's? when there are much more serious topics, that one can be focused on. Like a basketball court is going to take all! the violence away? ok. Kids/teens can play so much basketball it gets old.Maybe adults need to take a look into themselves as to what they have become and what they spend most of thier time doing all day focusing on the least important things once again so sad!in what our :ADULTS: became.

Speaking as a blackman I could careless if there are no basketball courts in Collingdale.
My wife and I researched the area before moving to Collingdale. We asked white and black people alike who lived in the area about the courts.
Everyone said the samething "The courts were taking down to keep the bad element out of the neighborhood".
We paid alot of money to move here and I WANT PEACE OF MIND.
I lived in the ghetto and I want to leave that behind. Sure it's a broad sword approach but if it keeps the neighborhood peaceful and quiet so be it.
If you want to play B-ball you have a few options.
Go to North philly and see for yourself what happens at the courts.
Go to the 69th Area and play there.
Lastly, Go to AP HS and play ball there.
Not surprised

To sum all these post up about Collingdale, i think resident's don't wanna believe that Collingdale/and Darby have become philadelphia. If you drive threw parts of phila, there is writing, tore up properties, trash thrown all over, broken windows. It's sad what the both towns have become And no authorities, code enforcements,or concerned residents will ever change it now,Collingdale is just plain ole tore up little philadelphia now.

Watch your damn kids people!!!! Stop bringing race into this!!!!! All of the brat ass kids in this damn town need a good ass kickin. Get some balls and say something to these kids. Follow them to their houses confront their parents. I think all we need is some old school town watch and a 10 o clock curfew. There is really no reason kids need to be out running the streets after 10 anyway. I know for a FACT that there was white, black and hispanic children trashing the parks and courts. Go to a town meeting bring your neighbor. Stop being bitches about this and stand the hell up give our town a good name. Do you like being called scumbags or deleware county. Its a damn shame.....

Let's inch taxes up to pay for new recreational services. We can install CCTV connected to a DVR and prosecute parents of children who commit acts of vandalism to community paid for and owned equipment. All the nice towns have skate parks, basketball courts, etc. We have to start somewhere.
