County Sues City of Holly Springs

Having lived in unincorporated Cherokee forever I have followed the continued law suits the Cherokee County Commission has filed against the cities, in particular Holly Springs. There has been millions of tax payers dollars spend on these senseless law suits. Now the ledger reports the appeals court has overturned the recent ruling that a cherokee judge ruled on in favor of the county on an action done over 20 years ago in an annexation by Holly Springs. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! But I bet a paycheck the Cherokee Commissioners continue this silly suit and appeal it all the way to the Supreme Court. Again ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!! Times are tough as the devil and budgets are thin for everybody. Why in the devil are these elected commissioners continuing to throw good money away paying lawyers for something that was done over 20 years ago. Did they really expect a local judge to rule against them? Not! But the appeals Court says that judge was wrong. Now stop spending money chasing an issue that is so old just to prove a point. As well the Commissioners NEED to understand these people ask to annex into one of the cities and there are many reasons they do besides development. But one of the big reasons, and why all these new cities have popped up, is they are tired of dealing with big government and not having any kind of voice in what happens around them. People want to have that voice and development is going to happen like it or not. They should be more open and hide less behind a door or position. They were elected and can be removed just as easy as they were elected. Smaller governments are more accessible and open.

Again the madness needs to stop! Stop spending MILLIONS of tax payer dollars for personal vendettas and personal agendas. Remember how Mr. Obama won (his logo)< PREACHING "CHANGE" and maybe it is time for a CHANGE a the County Commission level with all of those who continue a total waste of very limited money. TAX PAYER MONEY!!!

I agree the Cherokee County Commissioners are just plain silly! I am annexing my property in Hickory Flat soon. I may have to sue the Commissioners since that seems to be the only way they do business anymore. The big court said they were wrong and that should do it with spending millions of dollars fighting a cause the former (smart) commissioners approved over 20 years ago. But they continue to spend citizens money on something that is so silly and costly that did happen over 20 years ago. Did they really expect a local judge to rule against them in Cherokee Court. Why heck no he couldn't they control his budget, his office space, his staff, and everything else in his office. But gee the bigger court said he made an error in his ruling. Enough is Enough and that should be the final ruling and the final dollar spent out of the citizens pocket. People do request to annex in a city and they have yet to figure why. The reason is the commissioners don't understand they have to answer to citizens.

Today's Ledger says that Commission Chairman Buzz Ahrens stated "the $200,000.00 plus the County has spent is good money spent to chase the $3 million dollars caused to be spent because of the growth Holly Springs Annexations have cheated the County out of because they have no impact fees on developers in the City"...And now for the 2nd time a higher court has ruled against the County and in favor of the City...How FREAKIN STUPID IS HE or does he and the other Commissioners think we are??? First, the Commissioners just voted to slash impact fees by 90% to "spur growth"...So has it now become ok for the County to stop these fees or are they so rich we dont need them anymore while the economy is in the tank or talking out of both sides of their mouths or just want to bash Holly Springs and play Big Brother...Second, since when has it become "OK" to spend hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars to change/challenge (pay lawyers)something that the County APPROVED 20 plus years ago??? Do the Commissioners, in particular BUZZ, really think the Supreme Court Judges are stupid too or that they are really going to overturn lower court judges on something the County APPROVED 20 years ago???

It is time Buzz and at least all but one of the Commissioners are recalled and taken out of office since they seem to think it is "OK" to spend our money on something they approved!!! Did I mention these annexations were approved over 20 years ago!!!

Spend my tax dollars on something important and stop your stupid comments about how good this is for me or the other taxpayers in Cherokee County...I know I will be spending some of MY money to help get you idiots out of office!!!

Amen. Our tax dollars are scarce and these commissioners are talking out of both sides of their mouths. Read between the lines and you will see this is personal to them. It is not about impact fees and cost to build roads. I agree they need to be recalled for spending thousands, and continue to spend thousands, of wasted money on something that people have the RIGHT to do, Annex their property!

And today (November 11, 2009) it was announced the Georgia Supreme Court DENIED hearing the Cherokee County Appeal. You know the one where the County Commissioners voted to spend yet thousands more tax dollars to get it to. JUST UNBELIEVABLE!!!! Watch for the fools to appeal that DENIAL to the U.S. Supreme Court. Why not they have already lost over $600,000.00 in attorney fees suing the City of Holly Springs. And might I remind VOTERS not once has the County been successful in their futile efforts. My Gosh where does the crazy just stop or when do the VOTERS wake up and recall these fools!
Oh but stand-by the Commissioners are going to unleash another barrage of suits and appeals over the annexations the City of Holly Springs did (at land owners requests) in Hickory Flat. Gosh I wish I was contingent to Holly Springs so I could annex in!!!!
