In 1903 taxes were connected to the goal of “remaining civilized” by Albert Bushnell Hart [AGAH]:

Taxation is the price which civilized communities pay for the opportunity of remaining civilized.

And Jefferson was openly pro-progressive taxation. As he said in a 1785 letter to James Madison, “Another means of silently lessening the inequality of property is to exempt all from taxation below a certain point, and to tax the higher portions of property in geometrical progression as they rise.”

To facilitate to them the performance of their duty, it is essential that you should practically bear in mind that towards the payment of debts there must be revenue; that to have revenue there must be taxes; that no taxes can be devised which are not more or less inconvenient and unpleasant; that the intrinsic embarrassment, inseparable from the selection of the proper objects (which is always a choice of difficulties), ought to be a decisive motive for a candid construction of the conduct of the government in making it, and for a spirit of acquiescence in the measures for obtaining revenue, which the public exigencies may at any time dictate.George Washngton

Feces for obama wrote:
Obama's usual campaign method, used in 100 percent of his races, has been to pry into the private records of his opponents.
Democrats aren't going to find any personal dirt on the clean-cut Mormon, so they need complicated tax filings going back decades in order to create the illusion of scandal out of boring financial records.
Romney has already released his 2010 tax return and is about to release his 2011 return. After all the huffing and puffing by the media demanding those returns, the follow-up story vanished remarkably quickly when the only thing the return showed was that Romney pays millions of dollars in taxes and gives a lot of money to charity.
A friend of mine called me the other day and said obama wouldn't release his college records because he had applied to Occidental college as a foreign student from Indonesia, and did the same in applying for a Fulbright scholarship. The name he used was Barry Soetero, I'm lying? Proof it, release the applications.
So your argument for why obama is bad, is that he asks his opponents to release all the info he does, and that is standard of political politics (income taxes, political records, marital records) and thats bad, but when he releases his birth certificate.....its not enough and he needs to release more? Like the actual birth certificate cuz the one we have was given over too easily so it can't be real, or his college records which only show his grades and courses, not what people think are in them...things that have never been asked of anyone ever for running in an election.

Meanwhile ignoring that the current tax records from Romney have sleezy shit in them, so people have asked to see more and he says no. When asking simple questions like "ok fine dont release them, but was there any year that you avoided taxes or payed less than 10$? Please simple yes/no" and he can't give an answer? Thats not ok...

Given proof that Obama is a US citizen must be fake and is not enough....sleezy facts and possible illegal tax evasion (the thing that al capone was arrested for)..... not an issue...

Rudy says he is disappointed in Obama. Many on the left hate him. Many in the Black community except more. The people who hate capitalism are angry. Well, the president has to work for everyone including the people who didn't vote for him. The people on Wall Street hate Obama and yet he saved Wall Street. He had no choice. The country would have gone into a 1930's depression. There are no easy answers. Franklin Roosevelt and the Democrats struggled to make the lives of working people better and to reform Wall Street. Now the Republicans are trying to reverse the New Deal and go back to the Gilded Age of the 1890's when the wealthy lived in unbelievable luxury while the majority of working people struggled to survive. The Republicans believe that all good comes from the very wealthy. Basically, they would like to see the United States be like France before 1789 when you had an Aristocracy with all the wealth, a small middle class, and, everyone else living in poverty. The Republicans now in Congress are extreme idealogues who parrot the stuff they hear on Fox. Every Republican in Congress has family and relatives who have benefited from Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Unemployment, the 40 hour week, all kinds of Labor Laws and yet these people rant and rave about the Democrats. That is hypocrisy. The Democrats enacted the Civil Rights Acts of 1964. The last remaining Dixie-Crats left the party en masse and joined Goldwater and the Republicans. The former Confederacy is now a bastion of the Republican party. If you want a country where the rich have everything, and, you have nothing, then stay home on election day or vote for fools who don't have a chance of winning. For better or worse I support the Democrats and President Obama.

Feces, you consider anything that you don't agree with a lie.As for sleaze perhaps you have heard of David Atwater or Karl Rove. These 2 were the ultimate Jedi Masters when it comes to sleaze. If Willie Horton on Dukakis, spreading rumors that MCCain had a bastard black child, telling lies about Gores military service, saying Max Clealand was on a beer run when he got blown up by a grenade and swift boating John Kerrys' honorable military aren't some of the greatest examples of sleaze, then nothing is.The people on the right are masters of sleaze and should remember when pointing a finger,4 are always pointing back at them.I've heard of the pot calling the kettle black, but your lies go beyond that.

Feces, oppresso boy,dis my quotations on taxes all you want, but that doesn't take away from the fact that a lot of great Americans including G.W. and T.J. were pro taxes and recognized how much they were needed for a society to exist and advance, regardless of what grover norquist says or as Bush 1 said. Who the hell is grover norquist?

When the republicans start treating the working man decently, then I will vote for them.Nixon for all his faults treated labor decently as did Ike.From Raygun on the reps have treated working people like the enemy, and only care about the rights of the rich. When they start having leaders like Jacob Javits again, then I will go back to voting for them.I voted for Nixon,Ford and Raygun his first run.But after seeing how shabbily he treated labor,I have never voted republican again in a pres. election. In the 20 years of Ronnie and the Bushes only 1 nlrb ruling went labors way.

I am not against rich people.I am against rich people manipulating the system to give themselves benefits the rest of us never see, regardless of their party.I believe in a progressive tax system and the reps. don't.The late Ted Kennedy and Kerry although rich support support this type of taxation. Now if a man support raising taxes on himself,I have to think he is honest in his beliefs.Gates and Buffet both feel this way also.As for labor rights, when I came of voting age there were a lot of North Eastern reps.,who although fiscally conservative, supported workers rights.Something which the current crop don't.I do not mean kow towing to labor,I mean giving the workers a fair shake and a chance to organize if they want to.I belonged to a union for 30 years and this idea that unions are greedy and lazy is completely unfounded. No union member in his right mind wants his employer to do badly.Plus I can tell you from personal experience that unions do lose strikes,do take pay cut,do have to do more with less, etc, etc. Now for the big and,if the scotus won't limit campaign spending, and we can't get term limits,we will never have an honest govt.Career politicians of either party are not the answer.Nor is making pols spend most of their time scrounging for re-election money. You take a mans money, you become beholden to him, regardless of party affiliation. So it does no good to vote the incumbents out,the new ones soon become what they railed against and promised not to be,again regardless of party.Joe Scarborough was one of the few who did.

Newt Ginrich won a lose re-election bid in the 1980s,because of an agreement between both major parties. The agreement went like this,if an incumbents opponent tried to make an issue of the great pay and benefits members received,he would get no funding from his party.Several people did this and were thus denied funding,Newts opponent being one of them.He barely lost to Newt,so with funding he would have one.Yes I am aware of the shennagins pols. pull.

Colts Neck,TR said he had the estate tax law passed, because he didn't want America becoming like Europe. He basically said he thought the concentration of most of the wealth in a few hands was a danger to the country. He said if money is kept circulating more people have a chance to succeed in life and therefore make America a better country. As for demonizing people, the democrats are just taking a page from the Rove-Bush playbook. When they saw how well it worked for Bush v McCain,Gore and Kerry, they said we might as well try it ourselves. After all,Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Obama is the worst President ever. He never set foot in the US mainland until he was college age. He has no love, respect or appreciation of what it is to be an American. Anyone who cannot see right through this dictator wannabe is a total moron themselves.
