Although I was a young adult when "A Chorus Line" debuted on Broadway, last night was the first time I had seen the show. Through the years I'd read the reviews, heard the music, seen TV clips of the dances ... but not the show. It did not disappoint.
These adults are the also-rans of life. Each wanted to be the star, the success story, perhaps the "Billy Elliot" of their personal Genesis. They wanted to be noticed, the visible ones. But in the end they serve as background: Professionally required to fit in with the group rather than be noticed as an individual. This is a parable to all of us in reconcilling most childhood dreams with adult reality. |
