You are aware of the laws of physics, right? Oops, I almost forgot... you're JOURNALISTS, and the concept of fact-checking even obviously absurd statements is something you simply won't do.
The chemical formulation of gasoline simply does not contain enough potential energy to power any vehicle for 110MPG. The reason Pelmear won' let anyone look under his Mustang's hood is the same reason PT Barnum wouldn't let the suckers get to close to his mermaids, but luckily for both Pelmear and Barnum, they're journalist born every minute.

There is a sucker born every minute and it appears the journalists are the suckers. No 400 horsepower car goes zero to 60 in 3 seconds. The laws of physics don't allow it.

I also call bullsh0t on this. They could have gotten SOME logical reasoning behind it. Or at LEAST a demonstration. This report is pretty much useless.

Ummm??? Why isn't this mechanic the first billionaire in Ohio? I hope that he really has created such an engine but if it sounds too good to be true...
The auto industry would have bought the idea from him and stuck it in the same warehouse at the end of the first Indiana Jones movie, never to be seen again if it really exists.

must be a slow news day and a soft headed reporter. I bet his next story is on a car that runs on water.

I call BS on this story. If it's true, where is it? the guy would be a zillionaire many times over in an instant.

I think Tom Cruise has one of these. Because, you know, he likes to stay in the closet.

Allegedly.

if you write such a B.S. on a normal day, what can we expect from you on April 1st? You don't even try to conduct investigative journalism. It takes 3 seconds to google the facts on energy content of gasoline: http://www.epi-eng.com/piston_engine_technolo...

Sure ... and I've invented a way to get oral sex without having to pay for dinner or buy jewelry. It involves magic beans, a Harley and telling people my last name is Beckham, but hey, if it works ....

Mr Obvious,
I don't disagree with your main point, but it is possible for "any" vehicle to exceed 100 mpg. This link references a diesel vehicle that achieved well over 100 MPG, but the same approach could be used for a gasoline vehicle. Neither the vehicle (single person and very light) nor the driving technique (full throttle then coast; no traffic) could be used in day to day driving.

I hate to seem like a pessimist, but there is only so much energy in a gallon of gas (60 kW, I hear) and moving a 3000 pound car 110 miles might happen if it was all down hill. Raising that 3000 pounds 10 feet up an incline in 3 seconds (the time it takes to reach 60 mph, he says) should require more than 100 kW. I am no engineer, so no guarantees on the exact number, but I think that this claim for this car is wrong.

I agree with your theory Daivd and it is certainly sound as far as the laws of physics apply. But, here in my office I see these 3000 pound women get a days worth of energy from a 20 oz. Starbucks Mochachino.

lots of stories but so far no proof. He was supposed to do a run at the Milan dragway on june 14 on an NMRA weekend, but that may have changed to "display" since I cant find anything on this. He talked the state's venture capitol group into giving him $1.5 million to support his development and patents. He claims to have worked with Ford engineers but they all retired. Lots of claims, but then he is a drag racer so that isnt surprising. I guess the prize competition will be his undoing as it is " prove it or shut it".

I don't know fellas.
If a reporter says it, it has to be true.
They aren't dummies and the easily fooled type.
It's not like the went straight from high school, to university to a newsroom file clerk and then to a staff writer.
They've lived it and experienced it all.

The only part of the story that IS possible is to move that 3000 car from 0 to 60 in 3 seconds. Other than that, I agree with the others, why sit on this for sixty years, especially after having gone through this same cycle back in the seventies when anyone would have wanted to cash in on this opportunity years ago. I also noticed from the report on the news that the car has a four barrel carburetor. Hmm, just how is it that a carburetor can produce that type of efficiency.

LOL this is like an old urban legend isn't it??? Okay couple of things..Right off the bat, a gas-only(non-hybrid) engine that takes a mustang to 60 in 3 sec has way too much power to also pull the 110mpg miracle.

Secondly, 110 miles on a gallon of gasoline is possible if the car is light enough, friction free enough, and tuned for optimum conservation meaning you wont see 60 in under 8 seconds...if ever haha.

Lastly energy in physics is measured in joules or calories..not watts(that's power):)

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Libra

Don't try to do too much at once today or you'll disappear up you know what! You're all fingers and thumbs, accident-prone and things start breaking. It won't help if you're trying to concentrate at work and a certain chatterbox doesn't know when to shut up. Ask them to be quiet but try not to sound shrewish.
