I Have heard from several friends that the city manager has set several new policies that effect the people of this City. First the City manager has put a stop to any training that takes our firefighters out of town. This means that very important training that would improve the abilities of our firefighters is lost. How much better would the service that they provide be if he would let them go to out of town training. Second, he has put out to all of his supervisors that the employees of the city do not have the right to speek to their elected officials, and do not have the right to the freedom of speech. What is this guy doing?

I attended a commisssioners meeting tonight and was treated with such disrespect by Mayor Reagan. He started off by informing me of the three minute rule, which was fine. However, he interrupted me several times and took half of my time. He was so condescending and dismissive. This is not the first time I have had the unfortunate opportunity to witness Mayor Reagan's lack of respect for the citizens he is supposed to represent. I personally witnessed him being even more rude and condescending to two elderly veterans who served this country protecting the very freedoms that afford him the ability to sit there and be ever so rude. He thinks that the city charter should be changed and the percentages required to call for a initiative, referendum, and recall be increased. He stated at the charter commission's meeting on Thursday that increasing the required signatories would encourage more citizen participation. Blah, Blah, Blah, he doesn't want to encourage citizen participation. I have yet to see him treat the constituency with any respect when they dare to question policy, financial issues or ordinances. Maybe we should not have a city mayor. Just my two cents worth.

These people seem to forget that they were elected by the people!!! And if they continue the "Holier then thou" attitude they had better start looking for other employment!!!

I must agree with you guys. Who do they think they are limiting free public speech to 3 minutes? They have done this so they don't have to listen to a guy named Jack Andrews. Jack has been a thorn in the side of every city commission for many years and he has a right to speak. Instead of dealing with Mr. Andrews they want to punish all of us by limiting our speaking to 3 minutes. It is time for all the commissioners to be thrown out!

Three minutes is a long time if you carefully plan what you want to say. Andrews makes no effort to use this time well.

So when do we have to let the government decide how we use our time or how much time we have? Why is it up to you or me or anyone else to decide who uses their time well and who does not use their time well? We have a right to confront our government leaders when we disagree and we should not be limited by some non-sense rule that is just meant to keep our months shut. Jack Andrews today, you and me tomorrow. This is just one reason that people are feed up with government.
Carl Mackey was a person that always confronted his government when he had a problem. It is interesting that now that he is part of the government he would be involved in attempting to limit community comments to the commission. |

I just want to know why the city manager would waive the requirement for the chief of police not to be certified here in the state of New Mexico. We pay good money and should expect the best instead we get a man that can't obtain his certification in New Mexico a man I might add who received a pay raise twice without meeting the requirements of his job. This city manager does not have the best intrest of the people of Hobbs in mind. The crime rate in Hobbs in a true indicator of the type of job he is doing. I say we keep this in mind the next time we go to the polls. Start at the top and clean house. We citizens need to start questioning where our tax dollars are going. The city manager keeps crying that we don't have any money but he can find the money for raises for himself and the chief and a few selected friends. Stand up and be heard.

when this city manager first hired on he used city tax dollars to have a local church van repaired and tuned up to keep them quiet.
You see there was a local hotel that the city decided to condemn, there was a church that wanted to buy the hotel and turn it into a shelter for the less fortunate. Overnight the hotel was torn down after the church came forward about buying it. Which happens to be the fastest condemnation i can think of to date. But when the preacher went to the city manger about why they tore down the building without giving them the opertunity to buy it the city manger struck a deal with them to keep it quiet. Well when the church bus was sitting at the city garage being repaired by city mechanics and city parts questions were asked, commisioners were called and the only commissioner who had the balls to confront the city manger was albert hernandez. The city managers response was " I am allotted so much money each year that I can do what ever I want with and this is what I am doing, I am tired of everyone questioning my autorty" It sounds like he wastfully spent our money both in the condemnation because the church wanted the building and in fixing the church bus. |
