Did anyone else hear about the guy hit on S.Old Rt.66 on Monday moring about 4:30am?

I heard there was a dispute between him and his girlfriend and that he was taken to the *county line* by authorities and dropped off and told to head home to Mt. Olive and then he was hit by a car.. Could all be hear-say

I remember Derek well. I remember him when he just a few years old and him and his mom lived right across the street from me. Used to go over and play cards with his mom. They moved away and didn't really hear much about them. I do know that just a couple of months ago he was drunk and slapped the $%&@ out of my neighbor. My neighbor is a little guy, so it kind of made me think Derek might of been somewhat of a bully. But maybe that was an isolated incident. I do know I used to be a drunk so I can't hold that against him. After a while we all grow up.

My gosh..A person is upset.. As you read the post...It was her son-in-law-. And you make an observation because the name was mis-spelled. Crazy!!!!!!!

doesn't matter what he did or what he was.. He left behind 3 children and a family that dearly loved him!!

I pray he did die instantly and my heart goes out to the young man that accidently hit him..

The one's from Mt.Olive that dropped him off at the County line should be held accountable!!

I hope someone in the family takes the right steps! Again..3 children that have lives to live now without a father!!

My heart goes out to his family!

O M Gosh!!!!!!!!!! I only responded to her post because I did not believe she was his Mother-in-law for one second. Still don't. Just go look at the Gillespie thread. Everybody is her mother, her sister or something. If she is soooooo busy with arraingments what the hell is she doing here? Looking for an undertaker??? Smart ass

doesn't matter how you spell the man's name he's dead and his 3 girls are going to have to live with out a father I knew Derek for a long time no matter what he did in his life time he didn't deserve to die like that and yes Robin who ever dropped him off at the county line they need to be charged for something, and if they do I hope it's a stiff penalty.

Someone needs to be held responsible. No he should not of been drinking. But if he was so intoxicated..WHY didn't they throw him in jail???

He was on private property so they couldn't ticket him or arrest him. They were all trespassing, but it wasn't known at the time, and probably isn't known by the cops now. They only could go as far as their limits, or the cops could have been in trouble. Public service isn't something practiced much anymore which is why cops in town can't help people back into their cars because they can't be doing that in case something is going on elsewhere. A group of people were all partying near Lake Kaho.

He was a great guy would do anaything for anyone. Yes he was a bully and that did come from alcohol in excess. He left behind three wonderful daughters and loved them very much. The cops who dropt him off should be held accountable for his death in part at least. He was clearly not in the "MIDDLE" of the road. Just take a look at the spot where the "cop" marked! Derek shall not be forgoten. God help those responsible for this wrongfull death. May strenght be with his girls

Diana, you seem to know more about Derek's adult life that I did. Like I said somewhere else on here, I remember him when he was a kid, but have heard nothing about him for many years, other that the occasional police blotter. That don't make him all bad though, as my name has been there a few times also. It's a shame alcohol ruins so many lives. I feel I was a lucky one who got away from it before it killed me. Most people change when they are drunk, and hardly ever for the better. You still have to be responsible for your actions though. Just like a drunk person who kills with his car in an accident. Drunk, but still charged with manslaughter. But time goes on and time heals all wounds (so they say) and his daughters (God bless them) will live happy lives although I hope they are old enough to have good memories of their father.
