Everett is proof that we have a few inbred residents in Hillman too. Fortunately he is in the minority. The facts are: We have higher test scores than Atlanta. We have a healthy fund balance. and ....... We still have five days of school every week! Our doors are open to the children of Atlanta. Come and join us for a quality education in Hillman!

I have to drive too far as it is and will take it out on these children if it is the last thing that I do? I think you may have hit the nail right on the head so to speak with regard to the taking it out on the kids thing. It's amazing to me how many people think their kids are nothing but a pain in the ass and a bother. The nerve of those kids!! Interrupting a perfectly great day of screwing off!! I am curious tho... I have read this entire thread and I am wondering, who is/are the teacher/teachers who are so dead set against making this plan work? I have a couple in mind who I didn't see at the meeting, and trying to use the vague clues thrown in here and there, I have a couple suspicions, but I am not certain. Can you give me a clue?? It's driving me crazy.

Well folks there is your proof, a supposed board member calling a resident of the district "inbred". Instead of taking the high road and addressing my concerns this person chooses to rely on insults and name calling and suggesting that people from Atlanta are inbred as well. Do you really want to send your kids to a school district with board members like that?. I don't and I will be stopping by the school tomorrow and taking a copy of this post with me. I will also be going to the next board meeting with this! Well if you stop by my hous OntheHillmanBoard wrote: Everett is proof that we have a few inbred residents in Hillman too. By the way, Why don't you use your real name? I have a few things to say to you face to face. OntheHillmanBoard wrote: Everett is proof that we have a few inbred residents in Hillman too. By then it was already 8:00 - so the 5 yr old lost 1/2 hr of sleep, none of them were happy about the bedtime change, but they have to be awake at 530AM, and be prepared for another exhausting day in school. By the way I was really impressed with the single grahm cracker for the mid-day snack. It really shows that stauffer is all about the kids huh. ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY JUST LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE IN ATLANTA - ALWAYS WILL BE ALWAYS HAS BEEN. Hamburger Helper, you are funny! My child wouldn't touch that stuff. We had a full dinner. You posted at around 6 p.m. that it was time for bed and your child wasn't doing the classwork they brought home. That is why I asked. It sounded as though your kids were already in bed. I do agree that the 2 squares of graham crackers that the elementary received was not enough. That was the only complaint about the day my child and their friends had. I hope that they rethink that and give them something more filling than that. Just out of curiosity, which child brought schoolwork home? Was it actual assigned homework, or was it something like bringing spelling words home to study?

I have never posted on here before...I usually leave that to my husband! We have different opinions regarding the change to a four day week. Two of my children only had one complaint....the ONE graham cracker they recieved. My other child had a great snack in the highschool. Other than that they all said they had a great day. My children are lucky that they only have to wake up half an hour before their "usual" time. However, this is day two with them on the bus an hour earlier. My children DO have a bus stop (funny how it was said at the board meeting there are no bus stops because of liability). The bus can not turn around on our road. Other children in school meet at this place too, because the bus can not get down their road either. One parent goes as far as driving his son to the stop in the morning. My husband and I always had a hard time keeping an eye on the kids before...due to the distance and the trees in the way. Now it is pitch black outside and we can't even see them. Today I sent a flashlight along with them so I could at least see that reflecting off the snow. Hopefully the passing cars take notice of it too. We would walk down there with the kids in the morning, but we still have to get ready for work as usual. Like I said, my husband and I have different opinions so we are going to try this out and see what comes of it. As an interesting side note, even though my kids all had a great day on Monday. They all asked if they could move to the Hillman School. We are trying to get to the bottom of why they want to change schools, and in the mean time they have been asked to give this change a chance. They get to live with parents that are both for and against it so we are not filling their heads.

Can anyone verify or confirm/dispute the following? For the Elementary Students Snack: Monday-2 graham cracker squares (half of a whole one) Tuesday- a cheese stick Wednesday- ONE orange slice For the 7th-12th Graders, a choice between two snacks, for instance a whole orange or a bag of teddy grahmns. Why can they not feed the little guys an adequate snack? Can we send our children their own snacks? I would feel bad doing this because then my children would have more than the others. Can we donate by class? This really disheartens me. Two of my children are starving when they get off the bus, then they want to eat a huge portion and I have a hard time getting them to eat a real meal for dinner. I am going to try to make dinner earlier, shop the day before and what not, but then they will just be hungry before bed. Is this a problem that just my children are having? They like the 4 days a week change, but I am beginning to wonder if I do... Every night at least one of my children pass out before dinner. Every night at least one of them passes out before bedtime. Sigh that takes away time that I get to spend with them.(I'm selfish, I know.) For now, I will try to resolve the snack issue (once confirmed), make dinner earlier, save dessert for later and let them sleep when they crash. I want to see how things change academic wise. My husband says change schools.

Hey there... I am not sure about the elementary kids. Sorry! Mine in the HS said they had a choice of 2 out of 3 things. They're in bed now, tho, so I will have to ask in the morning. Call the school and ask to speak to Mrs. Stauffer. I am sure she wants to know about any problems, and I think that if the snack is small, then a lot of other kids probably need more, too.

It was the 11 year old that hd the homework. And again yesterday with 9 math problems, not really a lot for him to do. It took him 10 minutes or so to get it done once he was home. He wanted to go see (and take pictures) of the rally cars. Parent wrote: <quoted text> Hamburger Helper, you are funny! My child wouldn't touch that stuff. We had a full dinner. Trying to figure this out. Are the children who are 11 all in the 5th grade? Or is it the 6th grade? Is anyone else getting homework sent home? My kids have been able to finish all of their work and are really liking the 4 day thing. A bit hard to get my son out of bed today, tho, but a reminder that he has tomorrow off was all it took. Let's please try to make this work for our children! Call the school and if you can't talk to Mrs. Stauffer, at least leave a message with your problem so she knows what needs work. If we don't let her know what things are not working, she can't fix them, and I truly think she wants to make this the best thing for our kids!

So far as soon as they are in the door, they kick off shoes drop coats, gloves, hats, and backpacks, and head running to the refrigerator. Looking for something like they havnt ate all day long. My only worry by doing supper about an hour earlier is that they will be hungry before bed and have to eat again, but I can guarantee they will get more than the school is giving.

YES THAT OTHER ONE IS BOGUS... I have the Red Wings logo on my postings. I would gather someone did not like me speaking the truth and they want to discredit what I have to say or take the heat off themselves. He should go teach math and stop pretending to be ME... my integrity will never faulter and I am all for being a better parent and raising my children to be intellgent, respectful, resourceful and high functioning adults.

BY THE WAY... whoever the person is that is pretending to my screen name has gone out of their way to post information about "school board member" being a relative of the math teacher that I called out. THAT IS NOT TRUE. He is the Math teacher for Atlanta High School that lives over an hour drive away that is chronically complaining about the change. If he doesn't like it, he should find work elsewhere. His negative attitude is going to hurt our children in the long run. If he doesn't want to be a positive role model and show that change is part of life and you have to adjust to what your employer needs are, regardless your job. It is our job as parents to make sure our children know that change happens and we go into with a positive attitude and hopeful look at life. If we are stubborn to change, better things will never come to us. This is what the children need to know about life, things change and we learn from it and embrace it... who knows what great things will happen if you do.

What better way can you send your kids into the world than a kiss and a "Try your best!" Thanks for the answer.

I agree the right attitude makes a difference. Change is hard, thank goodness there are enough reasonable people in this town to attempt to make a positive difference. There is so much negativity on this forum. My kids all came home from school today with reports of another great day, AND the little ones got a better snack. LOL my youngest is passed out on the couch now as I type, but I fault his refusal to go to sleep last night as the culprit. We got report cards home tonight, I wanted to cry when I saw my oldest child's grades. HE tells me they will be better now that all work will be done in school. I do so look foward to that...
