before she takes over chatters spot.
This woman needs to be thrown in jail.

It is all about the money she could care less about the kids, its all money money money

schools are public and state funded, why should the students suffer, longer days, no free time, my kids would rather have homework and 5 short days than having 4 long days and 3 days to catch up on lost sleep.

No time for family come Monday, I'm thinking Hillman isnt to far away

GO TIGERS - my sister lives there so not a big deal for my 3 to stay mon-fri.
Hillman goes that 4 day route and they will go to Alpena and stay with my brother there.

either way at least they will be getting education not just BS work that is waaaay to easy

I've been out of school for 35 years but I'd have loved to had a 3 day weekend and no homework. What's the difference if the kids are in school longer? When they come home now, they either have a couple hours of homework or sit in front of the boob tube, computer or some other electronic gizmo for even longer. The argument the kids can't sit that long doesn't hold up. Their time is better spent in the classroom and then when they leave school, they are done. Just think, no more riding herd to get the kids to do their homework or trying to help them with it (which is even more frustrating). Families have the whole evening to enjoy rather than dedicating their time to a second school session. As a bonus, the kids might be so pooped out after a longer day it will be easier to get them into bed at a decent hour.

Is there a reason why you really want failure so very bad? The entire world is not out to get you... this is not the end of the world. This change will be a great way to try something "out of the box" and possibly find an alternative to how things have been done for years. The previous changes that were made to save money and boost education have not proven to be a working method. Trying something new is better than not doing anything! Doing something for a trial basis will hurt no one... it just seems to be something you need to push your intolerance for not keeping Atlanta exactly the same as it has been for years.

Wouldn't it be incredible if going into this with a positive attitude might actually make a positive impact on the children? Laws of attraction, you bring what you give out to the world. This trial will fail in your eyes because that is what you want... self fulling profiecy? Hell no! Not with our kids!

We want the best for our children and are willing to do anything we can, even if it makes us uncomfortable to adapt to change. That is what life is, change. Embrace the beauty of change and see that it has the possiblities for greatness!

I have watched it. Nothing different than I have heard about thing all along.

You must not have been at the same meeting I was at. Close to 90% of the crowd stood up in agreement and I was sitting by a bus driver who both stood (I have spoken to two others and they are fine with it too), teachers who stood, etc.

The kids that are going to have trouble with this are the ones who's parents are nay-saying about it from the rooftops. I feel for your kids cause you are not even giving them the chance to try it out with an open mind and see what happens. You will reap what you sow.

At the first meeting when this was brought up a couple weeks ago, and a little girl said it best when her mom got up complaining. Her mother said something to the affect "My kids don't want to get up as it is, it will be harder to get them up earlier" and her daughter piped up and said something like "It's you mom who don't like to get up."

People keep complaining the kids will be in school 8 1/2 hours, that it is longer than and adults work day. Well I don't know about everyone else, but I have a full time job and it is rare my day is as short as 8 1/2 hours. I still come home and do all my stuff at home, attend outside functions, etc. and get back up at 5:30 a.m. the next day and do it all again. Kids have way more energy and stamina than I do. They will be fine.

Many of us know that this boils down to the majority of people against it not wanting to get the arses our of bed and having a free babysitter 4 days a week instead of 5. All under the guise of saying it will hurt their kids.

Some adults don't seem to understand that they need to put their personal wants and needs aside and man-up and give what could be a good opportunity to their kids to excel academically.

The point is, no one knows until we try, with an open mind, if this will work out well for the majority or not. We just have to try.

Please... don't let the door hit you in the butt on your way out. We really don't need people with your attitude here, anyway. Not even willing to try. Sad, really. And if you knew Teresa and spoke to her, it has NOTHING to do with the money and EVERYTHING to do with the children and their performance. I know her. It IS the children. If we can save money, too, so much the better.

Ms. Stauffer cannot seek a waiver of State Law. She has perpetrated a huge fraud on the community by suggesting that this is possible.
The new LAW was written to stop exactly what Atlanta is doing. Stop being so gullible. There will be no waiver!
Mrs. Stauffer can in deed seek a waiver of the law. There is no guarantee that it will be granted, but if only the money issue was at stake, the waiver would be denied. If, however, there is evidence that the students did better academically, they may concider it.

As to why the new law was written I cannot say. I have not spoken to any legislators yet, and I have not read anything concerning the law in the papers. You, on the other hand must be psychic to be able to tell what the legislators were thinking.

For some reason I get the impression that you are not making a whole lot of sense. You say this will leave no family time come Monday. If your kids live in Hillman Monday through Friday how much family time are you going to have with them? You will have even less time if they move to Alpena.

It sounds as if your kids are no more than pawns for you to move around to fulfill your desires. If you are willing to pull your kids out of school now, again if Hillman changes then maybe your kids will be better off with your sister or brother.

Besides, if the work is so easy here why would your kids not have any free time. Once they get out of school they would have all kinds of free time. And, if it takes them three days to catch up on sleep, maybe you should put them to bed earlier during school days.

As for only being about the money, I guess your right. That is why the superintendent took a pay cut before she even came to work here. She volunteers here time after school as well as on Saturdays. Her husband even does grounds keeping duties for no pay.

I think you need to grow up and quit your bitching. You, along with qualityisjobnone, are doing your best to torpedo the whole district. Our school would probably be better off without either of you.

If you think your children will get a will be safe and get better education in Hillman, think again.

All Hillman cares about is the money.

One of my children graduated from Hillman and one will this year.

If your child is not involved in sports then your child will be just a source of funding in the district.

A couple of years ago there was an incident at the High school in which I raised some concerns over a safety issue.

My son threw a condom filled with water at some jocks who were pressurizing pop bottles and shooting the tops at him in the lunch room.

My son got suspended over it, he took his punishment and owned up to his mistake.

The jocks that were shooting the hard plastic tops did not get any punishment what so ever.

I voiced my opinion that shooting pop bottles tops at a high velocity in a lunch room full of students is a safty issue and those student should get suspended as well.

I was told that shooting pop bottle tops was "just harmless fun" and that throwing a water filled condom is sexual harassment.

There was another incident at the high school where My daughter and several other girls filed a sexual harassment report against a foreign exchange student and it was swept under the rug because they didn't want to risk losing the funding by punishing the student.

The harassment continued for the rest of the school year and they did noting to stop it.

The principal lied right to my face and told me no sexual harassment reports has ever been filed by a student.
We'll, I know for a fact that at least three girls did file a report and so do their parents.

The Hillman School Board is having a recall petition filed against them and I hope it passes.

I thought many times about sending my children to Atlanta instead but but could not transport them to and from Atlanta.

this is the first day of our long 4 day - and 3 day off!

Already sent home with homework????

We were promised that there would be enough time for work to be done in school, that promise has already been broken with 1 of my children on the first day.
He said there was 4 or 5 other kids that had homework sent home.

Well by the time they got home, ate, cleaned up and took baths it was time for bed. So the homework will not get done.

I am not going to keep my kids up ast thier bedtime to do something that was not suposed to be sent home anymore due to the changes that the new principal made.

Maybe the teacher doesnt agree with the rules, but I will live by them. I will not allow my child to suffer because of this money saving 4 day week.

If I had time I would take the homework to the principal and tell her to do it.

My guess is you had "math" homework to do? Since that teacher is doing everything they can to get this to fail...

is't that right mr. I have to drive too far as it is and will take it out on these children if it is the last thing that I do?

sorry i dont believe in making my children hamburger helper! we had chili and we ate at 6PM as most american families do
After dinner was clean up and showers.

By then it was already 8:00 - so the 5 yr old lost 1/2 hr of sleep, none of them were happy about the bedtime change, but they have to be awake at 530AM, and be prepared for another exhausting day in school.

By the way I was really impressed with the single grahm cracker for the mid-day snack.

It really shows that stauffer is all about the kids huh.

ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY JUST LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE IN ATLANTA - ALWAYS WILL BE ALWAYS HAS BEEN.

Worked out fine for us, but we aren't trying to make it hard on ourselves. My son got all of his work done. His midday snack was a choice of 2 items between a package of Teddy Grahams, a piece of fruit and/or cheese sticks. He was home about 25 or minutes later than he usually is. We saw Mrs Stauffer later this evening, and my son made a point of going to her on his own and telling her he had a great day, everything went well, and that he and his classmates think this will be fine. He also has parents that encourage him and are willing to work with any situation to make it work better for ourselves. If you people don't give this a chance, you are going to FAIL! Anytime there is change of any kind there will be an adjustment period. If your child only received one graham cracker, then I guess he/she needs to ask for more. How is Mrs Stauffer supposed to know about these things if you don't tell her? And I mean tell her in a constructive way, not by calling and pitching a fit. I am certain that the school would prefer it if we all work together and that means make them aware of areas that may need a little tweaking. Don't you think that on day 1 of any new scenario, the teachers won't really be able to perfectly gauge the correct amount of work to plan for a day? Maybe your child needs to adjust a wee bit? I sincerely hope you present a better attitude to your children about these changes. You have already decided to make your children fail. I think it's pathetic. When you were a little one, did you throw tantrums and act like this whenever you didn't get your way? Somehow, I am pretty sure you did.
