Nope! Not 100%. Some of us care more about the kids than about having a three day weekend. I'm ashamed of some of my colleagues who know better but like having the extra day off. You clearly don't know how unemployment works. The bus drivers are eligible to collect for the 20% cut in their wages that the four day week causes. I've talked to at least two who will be filing this week.

UR stupid wrote "Oh wait... you're not on welfare, I am sorry. You're a teacher at the school? Yet you're against bettering the district..." If cuting one day is "bettering the district" why not cut two or three days and make it even better? You are illogical!

If you cared about the kids... you should have showed your face at the meeting and spoke up. Ranting on the internet makes you a coward. If you really cared you would have made your voice heard in public. The unemployment wages are already paid into by the district and it is not costing the schools anything more for the drivers to file for their $20.00 they are out of. It is paid regardless a person collects or doesn't. It is an embarrassing thing that a teacher is resulting to calling someone "stupid". If you are that unhappy... find another job. No school needs a teacher like you. Your misery does not need to be spewed to the kids. Maybe you might want to try a school in Detroit, where calling people stupid is a compliment. Have an excellent day... you little ray of sunshine!

I would like to thank all of the people who attended the special meeting Monday night. It was a very well run and polite group with people giving their comments and opinions. The one overwhelming consensus that came out of the meeting was that the kids are the primary concern. Not everyone agreed on the outcome, but the kids were the number one consideration. My decision was not made until the public hearing had been concluded. The fact that approximately 75% of those present supported the plan spoke volumes about our community. People were willing to put up with some personal inconvenience to try something new for the benefit of the education of our students. Again, thank you all who attended. As for those who did not attend, you probably have not gotten the whole story. If you still have questions I am sure that the Board members or the Superintendent would be willing to answer them. The Board members were elected to represent the people. The people spoke last night, and I believe the Board acted in the right manner.

a maid cleaning service? seriously? what do the janitors do exactly? This was brought to my attention that the ATL school uses a outside company to clean - what gives? there are how many janitors? The teachers were just given raises - take them back - a real teacher dont teach for the money anyways. As far as a 4 day week for my 3 K-5 children - well I'll put it this way, I'd rather them stay with my sister monday through friday and go to HILLMAN schools. So I guess my kids are now Tigers not Huskies. At least the cheerleaders will not have to learn anything new LMAO

The outside service for janitorial duties costs the same price for 4 workers as the school was paying for ONE with wages, insurance, etc. It is a better way to do it. The janitors at the school bust their butts and do a really great job. Again, if you spent any time at the school, you would be aware of that fact, also. You cannot take away wages that are contracted. DUH!! Don't you kind of think "Real Teachers" have homes, families and needs the same way your own family does? Are you one of those parents that treats school as free day care? I am thinking teachers probably need their paychecks the same as the rest of us. As far as your children, I guess we don't need little quitters in the making anyway. The same thing will be happening in Hillman, too, so where will you run then? Good luck to ya.

Mrs Stauffer is my hero

God Bless Mrs. Stauffer for working herself to the bone for our children. She is a hero. Thank God she has the ability to think outside the box and to come at problems from so many different angles. Her attitude and way of thinking, her passion and work ethic are exemplary. We are fortunate to have her. She works for Atlanta's children day and night, tirelessly, caring for them more than their own families in some cases. We are all lucky to have her. I wouldn't trade her or the current school board for anyone else, regardless of who they are. They are an honestly caring fantastic group of people.

Yes our boss and the board are saints! Never mind that they have apparently no conscience when it comes to our kids well being. The Trib article said the earliest bus pickups would be 5:47 a.m. that means those same kids will get home at 5:51 p.m. That's 12 hours and 4 minutes a day. Child labor laws wouldn't allow this, but they are willing to subject five and six year old children to that schedule! If Stauffer and the board are your heroes you must believe this is OK too.

Actually, I do. I drive my kids to school everyday, and I'd expect that would be a possibilty for the rest of you, too. As far as Preschool and Kindergarten go, when my kids were that young, they went for half days and gosh... they are YOUR KIDS... how about be responsible and pick them up? With so many folks out of work, it would be a minority where there was no one able to get them. Man up! We all have to work together to get things to work. If you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem. Can't go both ways.

Listen up Wendle Whiner... your bitchin' about it all because you have over an hour drive as it is to Atlanta. It has NOTHING to do with how early the "kids" have to wake up... it is you being pissed off because you'll have to get up at 4am to drive to Atlanta. The parents are going to do what is best for THEIR children, if that means transfering them and having to drive them across the county to another school and possibly dealing with a less active social life for the child because the commuting will be an issue... is that parents choice. You on the other hand are stuck with it... if you want to keep your job. Quit your cry baby stance that is completely self serving and if you don't like it... maybe you should find a new teaching job. Parents do not need negative influences like you in their lives.

Break the damn contract - Atlanta is VERY good at that!!! Pay 1 employee 10.00 an hour to take out trash mop sweep and buff floors, mostly all done after school anyways. This is an easy part time job for a person in montmorency county that could use the money. But no wait lets think like stauffer - give money away to a out of town business to do a job that could be done from a needy ATL resident. As far as me attending meetings, what is the point - been there done that - if it isnt big rock approved or shuved up stuffhers ass it is even getting on the agenda. She gets things her way dont matter what any of us tax paying (been here 18 years)wants she already made up the boards mind. Good thing she looks out for those bus drivers and teachers tho, cuz who really cares about the kids right? Well I am a very good dad and thier mother is even better than I am, so my kids will not be subject to a 9-12 hour day, after all I work 8+ hours and I am whooped by the time I get home, what makes my k-5 graders indespensable?

They will use this temporary period (semester) to collect the data, and if it shows an improvement in achievement, they might try for a waiver from the state to do it permanently. That is no new news. I don't see the sense in calling and complaining when the majority of parents (as well as students) voiced their opinions and are all for giving this a try. No one is trying to get around the law. This is an option until the next school year when the rules change, but if the data shows an improvement, that data can be used to request a waiver and continue. If the kids adjust well (as I suspect they will, kids are resilient and have more energy than we adults)and the grades go up, I hope they DO manage to get a waiver and do this for an extended period of time.

She said the same thing on 7&4. Mrs. Stauffer has said all along that this is only for one semester. It will be against the law next school year. That is why we need to try this for an entire semester to see IF achievement is improved. If achievement is improved, then we can apply for a waiver. Applying for a waiver doesn't mean we can automatically get one. The students' progress will hopefully be evidence that we should/could continue with the 4 day week.

Dear "Parent"
Ms. Stauffer cannot seek a waiver of State Law. She has perpetrated a huge fraud on the community by suggesting that this is possible.
The new LAW was written to stop exactly what Atlanta is doing. Stop being so gullible. There will be no waiver!

She has said repeatedly and to anyone who can listen that this is temporary and to gather data. IF the students' progress is better, then MAYBE we could apply for a waiver. How smart is it to call Lansing to have them investigate incorrect information? I taped the reports on both stations, and after reading what you heard, I watched them both again. Nowhere does she say it's permanent. Mrs. Stauffer is an excellent Principal and Superintendant and our school board is the best we have had in a long time. They all honestly care about the children. You need to open your ears and hear what is being said as opposed to hearing the bad things you want to hear. What you called Lansing complaining about is not the true facts.

How about we see results before we decide what will happen? If there is no improvement, it's a moot point. There is also no law against applying for a waiver. Doesn't mean we will get it, but applying is always possible. If our children thrive and improve here, what kind of person are you to cut them down at the knees? It would be WRONG
