Pigs, chickens, and steer are slaughtered every day in the US. What makes a horse special?
|

How often do you eat horse meat? Do you know anyone who does? |
||||
|
Horse meat is better for you than beef and is very popular in Europe and other locations in the world. Used to get it on skewers, deep fried in Belgium, bought some for stew in Munich, good stuff, sort of like venison. Everyone should try it.

Interesting question, Jake. Cultural differences make it so. A Hindu would recoil at the thought of a prime, range fed filet mignon just as any Semite would find our locally produced, apple-smoked bacon to be akin to eating your dog Spot. Which some Asian cultures would relish, even with relish. Bad pun, I know. But I agree with you--horses shouldn't be excluded from the protein industry. And yes, I've eaten horse many times in Italy where it somewhat of a delicacy. The punta d'anca di cavallo is very sweet and ultra lean. |

we didn't send horses to Canada before Bush took over.

I dont eat horse meat but many people outside the US eat it regularly. Chickens are far dirtier than horses yet Americans eat chicken very often. |
||||
|
Why can't we do this with stray dogs and cats?
Can African muzlims eat it? It's not pork. Obama should get right on this. |

Hey, cats and dogs are delicacies in places like Vietnam, Korea, China and other oriental countries. When I was last in Vietnam, a short legged, bobtailed black cat would bring $40. That was more than a month's salary. Superstitions and seeking virility sure drive those folks to do some strange things. There were 5 dog stands between the hotel and the embassy. Some of the preparations were tasty. They mostly used a dog that looked sort of like a dingo from Australia. Meat is meat, just takes getting past the thought of what you are eating, once you've eaten it, it's OK!

What do you think happens to beef cattle, buffalo hogs, sheep, goats, fish, chickens, turkeys, rabbits or any other commercial providers of meat for consumption? They are all slaughtered, some in horrible ways, its never a pretty sight when you have to kill, gut, skin, and chop up a living animal, none of them volunteer. Then there is the whole different world of "wild" game being wounded, chased and left for hours or days to suffer, among other things that go on with "hunters". Its a "wild" world out there.

What about our own human beings that are slaughtered from greedy CEO's who layoff workers and send them and their families to starvation and homes repoed?

I've eaten horse; you know what is advised "when in Rome do as the Romans do"! Actually, it wasn't in Italy I ate horse.
Some of the more interesting things I’ve munched upon: baby deer antlers, congee with eye, silverfish (yes the insects), duck head, chicken feet, rat (better known as the four leg chicken), sea cucumbers, eel, and my favorite delicacy duck tongues. There are some things that people eat everyday that make sucking heads in Louisiana not much different than sucking on a Popsicle. |

Food is food and when your hungry, I suppose you will eat anything. I wouldn't knowingly eat a dog or cat...but the rest is fair game---except for fish---big no-no...BLAH!
As Americans we accept pork, chicken and beef on the menu, but for some reason Americans think because horses, dogs and cats are 'domesticated' pets, then they are exempt from the food chain. Illegals like goat meat and slaughter them in American restaurants.(That one still gets my goat!) |

What? No fish? I thought you were the one that every chance you got grabbed a folding chair, a can of corn and your fish'n pole and headed to a pond or a river. I take it you -- catch and release? LOL |

When I was first in the Army, we were served burro or donkey that came from the wild ones in the Grand Canyon. PETA or someone got wind of what was going on and stopped it but it was pretty good, they tenderized it and served it a country style steak and with onions and peppers.

Have any of these anti horse eaters adopted a horse to resuce it?

I love to go fishing (if I catch a few--fine, if not, then thats better!! SEE the cooler beside my chair), but I am not eating them. Yepper, catch and release unless its a catfish--then I yell for somone to come and take it off the line. LOL...I'll clean and cook em if someone will eat them. Nope, I am a sissy when it comes to eating fish...blah! Have a great evening. |

Goat is actually very delicious and is quite similar to beef. Ironically, the slaughter (aka harvesting) of a goat is nowhere as messy as the slaughter of a steer, yet most Americans are too timid to try goat. The butcher shop in Hendersonville is one of a very few places in WNC that sell "exotic" meats. |
