Do not shop at Art Van and if you do PLEASE do not buy the warranity on there furniture, it is a rip off.(STEVE) the store manager would not honor there warranity he basically called me a liar when I told him I used the leather protecter as required, and I believed the chair was never treated in the first place. I purchased a recliner from them with a 10 year warranity on the leather. The leather tore up in 5 years and they refused to repair it even though I used the leather protecter as required. I called corporate and Stacey also called ME a lier and refused to repair the chair and they would not give me a new one although the salesperson told me when I purchased the chair if anything goes wrong with the chair it will be repaired or replaced at no cost to me if I bought the warrnity . I also called the store and pretended to be a customer and they told me the same thing on Nov 24, 2006.
They are still telling the same LIE. |

Which Art Van store did you shop at?

Never ever purchase any warrantee. The odds are in their favor or they wouldn't offer it and they will cheat you any way they can. I tell them right off if they want to sell their product they better get right out of my face with their warrantee nagging. I have never regretted not purchasing a warrantee. Most stuff breaks pretty quickly if it's going to and is covered under the original warrentee. If not the case the money saved not buying all those warrantees is more than enough to buy something else.

Hey, they also have a huge sign up that states they now deliver to Canada and they don't...liers. They only deliver if you blow more than $1500. on merchandise and only if it is new....they told me "no problem mam" as I ran up the bill on discount furniture and then, after the bill was paid came the line, "we can't deliver if we don't have the original box it came in." Like they keep boxes for, oh let's say, dressers!!!!! So 3 trips later and 2 hours of hassle at the borders and interegation from the border patrol as to how on earth anyone could sell a dresser for $47.00 thus I must be lying ( must have been an x-art van employee) and finally I got my purchases home only to find the bottom of the dresser broken, out of sight of course as I was buying it......watch out.....

Thank You for the feedback.
My wife is expecting me to go shopping with her to Art Van for a new recliner. If it were me alone I would buy used Furniture and have it re-upolstered. I believe we are paying 3 times what furniture is worth, and it is specifically manufactured to break within a very short period of time.(Planned Obsolence) A warranty is not worth the paper it is printed on. Most everything we purchase today is imported plastic/cardboard disposable garbage. Manufacturers are no longer craftsmen but, profit centers. Unfortunately the Items we purchase today are every day closer to the landfill the day we bring it home. When was the last time you purchased anything that could be handed down as a family Heirloom?? Get a price on re-upolstering a recliner. You will by a new one. You are buying cheap furniture, thats why it does not last. Spend a few dollars more and buy quality. "Specifically manufactured to break within a very short period of time" Oh Please. Your buying CHEAP furniture. Enjoy it!

I think that Mike might have a comprehension problem. You obviously didn't read the emails clearly from these folks that were talking about their experiences with Art Van and warranties. People like you shouldn't be on comment boards. Warranties are useless-I agree and nobody stands behind their products anymore.
Mike get a clue!!!!!! |

Its hard to imagine so many people spelling liars incorrectly. Its L I A R S not L I E R S. Makes me wonder if the rest of the story is accurate.

Just some friendly advice that I received from an employee that worked for Art Van,and my husband and I tried it and it worked. We had the same issue, but with a mattress. So on a busy Saturday in the middle of one of their promotional days, we went in their and started raising hell and telling people not to buy that certain mattress, etc. and we had the manager's attention in 1.5 seconds. He pulled us away from the area very quickly and tried to quiet us down. We told him the issue we had and the run around we got from the store, he said he would get us a brand new mattress and within a few weeks we got our wish. They sent another service man to reevaluate our mattress and miraculously he agreed that it was defective, when only weeks before it was declared perfectly normal wear and tear. So raise hell on a busy day! Good luck! Hope this helps! |

I have bought furniture from Art Van with no problem at all (several pieces). Of course I take care of My furniture also. As far as furniture falling apart - stop buying cheap furniture. Afterall - you get what you pay for - no matter where you shop. And like Mike said - leather does not just fall apart on it's own - if you buy good quality that is. Of course if you go out shopping for the cheapest thing you can find, then yeah it probably will fall apart.

I had the same problem. I purchased a leather set from Art Van. The arms started to sag. Art Van came out and said that the arms were contructed of partial cardboard. The cardboard had collapsed. They were not willing to do anything about it. They said that the unit was not properly maintained. I am not sure what we could have done to prevent it. But, they were very rude. My sofa is only 14 months old. I blew $320 on a warranty that does not work for anything.

I worked for Art Van for 3 years, but not in his furniture stores. I was his bodyguard/driver. Few people have any idea how wealthy this man has gotten selling cheap furniture from his "beautiful" showrooms. I even wrote a book about his wealth called Grosse Pointe Pimp. It is available online.

I have purchased almost every piece of furniture i own from Art Van. we have always gotten good service from every one there with whom we have dealt. I cannot say we have never had a concern but when we did it was addressed professionally and couteously. I have to wonder if Mark S feels the man should not make money? Is the book he mentions that he wrote free or is he trying to make money? Art Van took the risk of starting a business and to my knowledge has given millions of dollars to charity. my guess is that there is a good reason Mark is a former employee rather than a current employee.

I have to admit I totally agree w/Mike everything you buy is made so cheap, there is no more pride or quality in products, anymore (unless you are very wealthy),people can't afford to purchase the high quality merchandise anymore. All this society/businesses are concerned w/is a fast buck. Forget the consumers it's all about MONEY and how fast can "I" make it???? That's the new business motto'and sadly enough, we as consumers are just letting this happen!

Let buyer beware, you get what you pay for. Whats wrong with being rich? Nobody gave it to Art he worked for it. Don't we all want to be rich? We're just to afraid to take a chance. It's easier to work for someone else, no risk.

I agree with Mike from Royal Oak. When did it become wrong to make money? What is an acceptable amount of income to make you feel comfortable with yourself. Your FORMER status says it all. Apparently you can only be allowed entry at the lower end furniture stores because I'm sure their watching for you at all 30 locations. So...get busy gettin' a life more worthy of your writing talents. Write a screen play, do some charity work, get married and change diapers, go be happy.....everyone else is!!!!!!
