I've got one question, WHY?
What did you get out of the News Leader article on Highlands increase in crime?
See the link to the article here: http://www.bnd.com/532/story/1001287.html

I read it but it dont make sence. if you got more crap happening you just do, the chief dont got to try to whitewash nothing. heck yeah, theres more crap going down in highland, but it not the police fault, its just how it is.

I read the story, maybe the huge upswing in crime is why the City graced all the big raises on the top cops or if that just payoff for covering up crap for the other officers.

My lawnmower was stolen from a locked shed, the police told me to come to the station to make a report and there they sneered at me. The hiland cops are arrogant, racist and think they are above the citizens. They think they are too important to chase thieves and burglars, they would rather harrass teens and steal thier drugs and booze.

They aren't all that concerned with thefts right now. There seems to be a push on to clean up the town. Tall grass is more important than stolen lawnmowers..........but how do you cut down the grass if someone took your mower???

Look for a yard that had tall grass and doesn't now, I bet they have your mower.

I have found that YOUR attitude has a lot to do with how an officer is going to treat you. They are just like everyone else. It's a job and they don't like dealing with idiots any more than you do. Treat them with respect and you will receive respect back. I for one have had nothing but plesant experiences with the Highland police force and am proud to have them on my side.

You must be from outside Highland, how nice for you. Anyone knows that if you live in Highland your mantra of "Treat them with respect and you will receive respect back" usually is not so, especially on night shift. In this town cameras and recorders are turned off so that persons of color can be denigraded with impunity. Unlawful entry, unlawful search and siezure are just all in a days work at HPD. I wish we could get a good Chief like Mowkwa.

another boring bunch of words and a whole lot of double talk. Who the hell does this chief Bell doodee think he's talking to. He must have bought the rot about us all being illiterate hayseeds but I know a skunk when I smell one. He's trying to distance himself from this crime increase report so the stink don't stick to him, but its all his. Impeach the Mayor and fire the City Manager and all the cronies he brought in.

I wonder why News Dem came out with Mr Rickhers comments and not the News Leader. It was an honest and straightforward piece. It covered all sides, I like that for a change. I think the Leader must be filtering our news with rose colored glasses.
I've always been suspicious of the people promoting the fiber optic plan, I agree that Latham and the mayor have ulterior motives and personally profitable as well.

We need more neighborhood watch groups to bring down crime. I went to one at the grain elevator a couple weeks ago and it was neat. A lot of people wanted to start one here in the 1800 block area of Cypress, Pine and Zchokke but nothings been done yet. You cant count on the cops to be everywhere.

You are wrong. The Neighborhood Watch Groups are supposed to work with the police. The police in this town don't want them. They don't want VIPS,volunteers in police service, Police xplorers, or anything else that might want to be more involved in crime prevention. Thats because their brand of crime prevention is criminal.

I think its maybe because of the high gas prices. The police department has to cut back just like everbody else. I notice they spend a lot of their time parked in different places around town for hours. That is called staging for response. They are trying their best I think, but maybe if they would turn off their motors because when I see two police cars sitting for two hours talking with windows down, I worry about the gas that is wasted. But I am also glad to see them in my neighborhood alleys where the punk kids like to run.

I've noticed there are more dumpster divers in the alleys too, there has been an increase in the apparently mentally ill about town too, I figure the stress of the holidays were causing it. My hope is that these people will be treated with compassion if they are not responsible for crimes other than looking scary and out of place.

I know there has been more car shopping in Highland around the bars. If you leave cd's , change, cigarrettes in your car, expect them not to be there when you get back to your car. And then there is the scratches all over your door where the punks jimmied your door. Most people don't notice it at first because like I said, it happens around the bars and once you have a couple drinks, you don't notice as much. Of course if you do notice, you still can't call the cops cause you don't want to do a breathalyzer.

Did something happen at that house behind country store again? I heard today at work that someone ran into it after stealing something out of a car parked by there then ran back out of the house and down the street. Seems to me like there is more and more people living/hanging out there. Feeling for the neighbors in the area there.

Daily Horoscope for December 30

Taurus

It's no good - the prospect of visiting the post-Christmas sales has become too tempting for you to resist any longer. No matter what you're doing today, you'll try to squeeze in the opportunity to dash around some of your favourite shops and see what's on offer. You could snap up some bargains but you should guard against the urge to splurge on items that you don't really want or need. The price of something may have been slashed but the acid test is whether you'd still buy it if it were full price. If not, leave it in the shop!
