NJ Fraternal Order of Police and telephone fundraising...Is this a scam?

Here is the trick. If they ask you to pledge just say you will. They will keep calling you and send you numerous mail to pay the pledged amount with a deadline date. Throw away those junk mails in trash without opening them. Never pick up an out of area phone, keep an answering machine so you can call back genuine out of area call.

Thanks. I have been getting so many calls from the NJ Franternal Order of Police and they are PUSHY. I was going to send them money but after checking on the web and this post I will not send them anything. I am on the government's do not call list and they still call me.

I've told these telephone solicitors that I won't consider a charitable donation until I receive something in the mail. They usually argue that it's too expensive but I ignore that.

I finally got a package from the Arizona FOP and it's a revelation. They need money to pay death benefits for members killed in the line of duty (as if they didn't have generous life insurance coverage from their employers), pay the cost of the fund drive (!!) and the general welfare of the organization. The kicker, in 6 pt type, is that donations are not tax-deductible. I wouldn't give money to this organization under any circumstances.

I have been receiving calls, no caller id info, for months. I have retained a lawyer because they are abusive. One rep went so far as to say "we will get our money". I received calls as early as 7:30am and as late as 10:30pm. I even get 2 to 3 calls a day. I have been recording my calls with them. One agent has embarked on a personal vendetta against me. We even went so far as to having a screaming match in one phone call. All this for $27.00.

I don't know about the NJ FOP, but we get solicitations from a NY FOP in NY based in Levittown. I phoned the REAL Police Benevolent Society in NYC and they said this guy from Levittown has been doing this for years and he's a fake.
Because we somehow got on his list, we get Firemen's Widows, Veterans Funds, etc. I think most of them are scams -- as are the pitiful pleas from most of the American Indian charities.

I get multiple calls from these people. Sometimes it is out of area (I never answer an out of area phone call), some times it is a local cell phone number, and they always act like they are just a friend calling to talk to my husband. My "husband" has not lived in the house for over two years, and they have been told that every time I have talked to them, but they still keep calling for him. The worse part is that they then turn their sales pitch to me, even though I have asked countless times to be removed from their list. After asking them nicely several times, now I just hang up on them. Most of what I have found online points to scam at worst, at best they are very rude and persistent telemarketers. I have just canceled my home phone due to telemarketers like these calling when I am sleeping during the day since I work nights.

Whoever these people are they are very crafty. My phone will show a "NJ PO" caller id. So I put a block on the number. But then they call back using a lot of different #s. They are like vultures. I have put blocks on my phone but they always find another # to call. If these really are police calling they should be ashamed. We're senior citizens and they are truly harrassing us; sometimes the caller won't leave a message on our machine but rather a sound like heavy breathing. I have it all on tape
