"Tom Clark, a town councilman from 1976 to 2000 and a Hicksville resident since 1965, told the board it wasn't its responsibility to provide parking for commuters. "We don't need 2,000 cars coming to Hicksville every day," said Clark, 72."

Once again commuters are the losers. I guess Mr Clark does not want us to earn income in NYC only to spend it in Hicksville.

2,000 cars means 2,000 jobs Mr Clark. If you can provide those jobs on Long Island I would gladly never return to Hicksville (now Little India) never ever again for as long as I live.

Tom Clark sounds like the type who would like to return to the "good old days". He should go back to 1491 then he wouldn't worry about all the riff raff that has come to occupy the western hemisphere including himself (probably).

TOB should definately rebuild the parking garage. Besides.... where else would the TOB commuters park without inconviencing residents and businesses in the area? I have lived in Hicksville nearly my entire life and have been commuting from Hicksville for the past 27 years. Pity maintenance was not performed during the lifetime of the present garage. Perhaps demolition might not have been necessary if this had been performed.

The Town has been providing parking for commuters in Hicksville as well as at other locations within the Town of Oyster Bay for over 40 years, to suddenly reverse that policy would be irresponsible and would most likely result in commuter parking over-running the surrounding community. There is no question that the Hicksville Parking Structure should be replaced as quickly as possible, although I believe the 18 month time frame is somewhat optimistic.

Seriously..not responsible? What jobs are paying these incredible taxes? We honestly pay enough in taxes to TOB to afford to make sure commuters have a place to put their cars while earning the living to keep the town going...sheesh...

Once the new garage is completed and operating I hope the Town of Oyster Bay will have some open parking spaces for Hicksville residends who on occassion make a trip into NYC just for the day. Many times I had a hard time finding a parking space when my wife and I would go into the city for the day. We are willing to pay but it seems that only monthly rates are available.

Hey, Tom Clark, what kind of an a-hole are you? If you don't want TOB to provide parking, then be very prepared to have cars on your front lawn since there will be no where else to park. How you made it as councilman this long is amazing. Quite frankly, I do NOT like commuting to and from Trashville either, but we have no choice. Idiot.

TOB needs to look to the future and should install photovoltaic panels on the top level. The power produced would be available to commuters with electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids to recharge their batteries during the day (at a reasonable rate, of course). The shade cast by the panels would keep the cars on the top deck out of the sun, too. A cistern for collecting rain water that falls on the top deck should be located under the garage. Once treated to remove contaminants (oil, grease, etc.), the water should be used for landscape irrigation and to flush water closets and urinals.

PS. The asterisks replaced "etc.", not anything vulgar. I have no idea why Newsday would censor "etc."

If anything make it 2 levels higher. People need to pay for a sticker. Increase it for non TOB folks to generate $ to pay for the structure. If you are non TOB and you want to come to Hicksville, then pay.

I know it is already a higher rate for non TOB residents but I meant make it even more. I for one think Tom Clark only cared for himself and his block but let's make these transients pay, pay, pay.

The more I read that article, the I imagine Tom Clark as a crotchety old curmudgeon.

Tom, it is 2008. If you cannot keep up with the times please resign your post. I am going to spend my money in Huntington this weekend anyway.

etcetera (just seeing if the full word, not the abbreviation, gets censored)

You're an idiot. Good. Stay out of Hicksville then, take the train from your OWN station, and stop taking up OUR parking spaces. You're probably one of the jerkoffs who are parking in OUR lots with no permit.

WHO'S the idiot? Listen Genius, it turns out you *DO* have a choice--find a job closer to whatever miserable town YOU live in and stop taking up space in "Trashville". Or better yet, move back to the city and stop taking up three seats on the train every morning. HICKSVILLE is certainly better then wherever it is YOU come from! Jerk.

Hey Raja. I prayed to Vishnu last nite and it said you are a more on. And before I have to read your inane ranting, I intentionally spelled "more on" that way to avoid being censored.

Hicksville IS my own station and I DO have a permit. I only live is this now curry smelling town because it is affordable and close to a train station with decent service.

I totally agree. I used the parking garage at the Mineola Intermodal center recently. Hicksville should use it as a model.

I don't know how these comments ended up with talking about the town itself. It's about a parking gargage that accommodates ALL of TOB residents...it just happens to be in Hicksville. At least the town is making provisions to park. I'm sure the majority of the commuters are not from Hicksville. Structures get old and need to be replaced. People complain when things look delapitated but when the time comes to fix it, they do nothing but complain because their routine is being altered!! Can't please everyone.
